Behavior notes:
01/24/25 volunteer notes: busted Girla out of ISO for some fresh air and leg stretches. This gal is bottles up sunshine! She ran around a little bit with me, you can tell she’s not feeling her best. She was happiest when I sat down w her and she crawled into my lap for cuddles!
01/21/25 volunteer notes: sweet Girla is just the absolute best. She greeted me with gentle eyes, was super easy to leash and walk. She enjoyed treats and getting some fresh air and running around in the snow. She is truly a gentle soul.
01/09/2025 staff notes: I adore Girla so much!!! I have taken her out everyday this past week and she has improved so much. Girla has a very good "stank face" but she is SO sweet in reality. While a bit timid she is so bouncy after a few minutes with you in a room and is so playful and silly. She has such a funny personality and will zoom around the room, wack you with her paws, and then run away just to run back and pounce in your lap for attention. She is extremely tolerant of all handling and has let me touch her ears, face, belly, paws, teeth without any issues. She also absolutely lights up around other dogs and is my current "go to" dog for dog meets at the shelter. She is such a special girl and if I didn't have a full house already I would take her home if I could.
01/06/2025 staff notes: Girla was wiggly in kennel today when I approached! She had wide soft eyes and fast mid level wags. She was a bit unsure of the leash but allowed me to loop her ears to snout. She sniffed around the room and then came over to me, still sniffing the ground but giving low wags as I pet her back. She was nervous and timid still but showed much better sociability today! She absolutely lit up around other dogs and had multiple good meets, engaging with play! She would highly benefit from playgroup and going to a muti dog household to build her confidence.

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Girla
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Girla was laying on her bed and looked up at me with dilated wide eyes. She began trembling when she saw me but once I showed her the leash she loosened up a bit and came to the front slowly with low wags. I reached in with the leash and she sniffed it for some time but I was able to lasso it over her head.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally – fearful on leash
HANDLING :
In the room, Girla was very fearful and had very wide eyes and a tucked tail. She remained hidden under the desk or next to my side sitting down. I tried to give her some pets but she looked back with really wide eyes. I offered her a treat as well but she declined and seemed to get frustrated with me so walked away. She was very brave and untucked her tail with some mid level wags on occasion. She came over when called with her mid level wags and sat next to me whining. I gave her a small stroke on her side and she side eyed me and began lip licking. She gets very stiff and uncomfortable, lowering her body the more you kept her. She is extremely tolerant but did not enjoy it.

1/4/25 staff noted: The finder noted that she is “shaky on leash, shy and scared.”
Medical Notes:
01/09/2025 medical staff notes: Brought Girla into surgery for spay and she was very nervous, tail tucked from the moment she entered and avoidant with wide eyes. Went slow with her and initially she moved away from any handling, but going slow was able to approach her. Tolerated slow pets and then was able to place stethoscope on right side of chest and slowly move down to auscult her heart. She completely froze up, but after a few seconds of listening when was not moving or doing anything to startle her, suddenly snapped towards handlers leg (nurse Bry). Behavior Devon came in to assist, muzzled her and was able give IM injection. M
Per an exam on 1/4: “Ears are dry and slightly dirty, teeth are stained and have tartar buildup. Her coat has dander. Nervous, unpredictable, lip licking, scared.”
