Meet Shimmer ACCT-A-211995! Shimmer is a 2-year-old female who came in as a stray on 1/25. Her finder noted that she was “friendly”.
Behavior Notes:
1/26 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Shimmer
KNOWN HISTORY: Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION: Shimmer was at the front of her kennel with soft eyes and a wagging tail. I reached in with the leash and she sniffed it curiously before easily letting me leash her. Once secured she came right out and flinched when I secured the stopper.
LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally
HANDLING: Shimmer came into the room with a low wagging tail and pinned back ears. She was a bit nervous but very curious of her surroundings. I called her over to me and she came up with a wagging tail and soft eyes but was nervous and walked away once she felt like she got too close. I called her over again and she did the same thing. I saw her eating treats off the floor and offered her one and she plopped herself into my lap, crunching on treats with her gentle eyes. Everytime i pet her head she would lower herself and didn't seem comfortable with body pets either. She would jump up but had tucked wags which turned into her eyes getting wider and her leaving my space. She lip licked a couple times and wants to be brave and get pets but is so nervous and unsure. She sat very nicely for the treats I offered and took them gently. Another staff member entered the room and she got from under the table and greeted her with a lowered body and tucked tail. The staff member tried to pet her and reached her hand out but she immediately got tense and walked right back under the table, regulating her fear instead of reacting. She came out from under the table again and followed me over into the middle of the floor as I grabbed a toy for her. I squeaked it and she tried to make a decision if she wanted to come up to me or not. She came up to sniff the toy with tucked wags and retreated away again. I threw the toy near her and she was frightened. I walked back over to the toy to pick it up and she dropped to the floor and rolled over on her belly but i know she is trying to appease me and doesn't actually want her belly rubbed. Once I picked up the toy next to her, to prove to me she did not want affection, she tensed up, got up and ran under the table again.
PLAY: No interest
TOYS Minimal interest – got nervous after
Medical History:
Per an intake exam on 1/25: “Eyes have clear ocular discharge. Ears are red and dry, mild wax. Teeth have mild staining. Live fleas and pet dandruff. Bright, alert, responsive and loves treats.”
