My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Trixie! No "TRIX" about it, this is one unique dog. Trixie was born on May 17th, 2024 and currently weighs around 41 pounds. She was surrendered from a home with 20+ dogs on the property and was living outdoors. Trixie's mom is part Great Dane, so we are sure Trixie is going to be a big girl when she's fully grown! Trixie isn't used to being cooped up in a kennel, so the shelter environment has been an adjustment for her. She shows her affectionate and playful nature when she is out and about in the yard. Trixie is friendly with people and loves to be pet. She will put her big paws on you and soak up all the love you're willing to give. Trixie is active and enjoys running and playing with other dogs. She was on the property with other dogs around her size, and we introduced her to a dog about half her size. She was very good about reading the other dog and adjusting her play style to his. He wanted to be chased and Trixie was happy to run and chase! Trixie could potentially be a play buddy for your dog at home, so please plan on bringing them in for an intro. Trixie will need a secure yard/house/fence that she cannot jump over or escape from. She will also need a family that is patient and willing to teach her things like leash and potty training. Trixie has already made progress with the leash, because she is a smart dog and eager-to-please. We believe the sky is the limit to what Trixie can learn; maybe even some TRIX?! Sorry, we had to... ;-) Email chitownrescue@gmail.com for more information/meet and greet with Trixie. Trixie's adoption fee includes spay surgery, vaccinations up to date including Rabies, and microchip.

More about this rescue

"Chi Town" is short for "Chihuahua Town," which is our nick-name because we found that the majority of animals we were rescuing happened to be Chihuahuas and literally have a little “town” comprised of Chihuahuas! Chihuahuas are one of the most over-bred dogs in Arizona and unfortunately many end up in need of rescue. However, we are not limited to saving just Chihuahas, we do save other breeds dependent on availability of space. Chi Town also specializes in rescuing dogs who require a little extra TLC and are at risk of euthanasia at county shelters. These dogs may not be doing well for a variety of reasons- fear, fear aggression, anxiety, or a medical issue to name a few. These are the dogs that typically have no other outlet and for which time is of the essence . After our dogs are medically cleared and/or their behavioral issues have improved, they are available for adoption.

Please be aware that we do our very best to answer all questions in a timely manner.

We are always seeking to help promote these special Chihuahuas who are too often overlooked in AZ shelters due to the sheer volume of this breed. Please share and like us on Facebook:
