Juniper Leigh was found as a stray stray, injured and bleeding. She was rushed to an emergency hospital by her finder and later brought to the shelter by one of our animal control officers. Despite her pain, Juniper showed incredible tolerance and trust, calmly allowing leashing and handling during her transport.
At the shelter, Juniper Leigh has proven to be a sweet and curious girl. She enjoys gentle pets and handling, even leaning into her handler for more affection when they pause. While her wounds make her sensitive to touch, her gentle wags and occasional open-mouth smiles show her desire for affection.
This brave girl is looking for an experienced foster or rescue partner where she can rest, heal, and feel safe. She’ll thrive in a quiet, patient environment that allows her to relax and recover at her own pace. Could you be the one to help Juniper Leigh on her journey to a brighter future?
To foster Juniper Leigh, please email foster@acctphilly.org.

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
In the kennel, Juniper Leigh was in a side bank sitting upright with a stiff body and semi hard eyes.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING :
In the room, Juniper Leigh was tolerant to all handling and was super sensitive around her wounds but leaned into the handler when the handler stopped petting her. She came in and walked around slowly, curiously sniffing everyone and when offered some food and treats declined. She was escape oriented but would just sit and push her muzzle into the door. She followed the handler around with mid level wags and some open mouth smiles.
PLAY:
Minimal interest
TOYS:
Ran after a ball
1/5/25 per staff: very tolerant during harness being put on
1/3/25 per staff: dog is nice allowed me to pick her up and put her in the van walk slowly, but great on her leash encountered no issues with her even though she has open wounds”
Medical Notes:
Vet Exam 1/4:
Objective: BAR, sweet and friendly intact female dog.BCS 8/9. Bandage in place around neck and chest, clean, dry and intact. When removed there was some strike-through from the ventral neck wound, but wound does not appear to be productive once the bandage was removed. There is significant cellulitis and tissue thickening on left side of the neck which has the majority of of puncture wounds that all appear to be sealed over now. There is ~2-3cm full thickness wound on left dorsal neck that is slightly oozy but not actively bleeding, additional ~1cm full thickness puncture on left ventral neck that is also slightly oozy but no actively bleeding. There are a few more minor wounds to the right side of the neck. All wounds are non-painful with light palpation, no fluctuant swelling present.
Assessment: Many wounds primarily to left side of neck and few to right side as well, significant cellulitis on the left side of the neck.
Plan: To leave wounds open now to monitor healing, do not need to rebandage.Rx AmoxiClav 375mg PO BID x10 days, Gabapentin 300mg PO BID x7 days, Carprofen 100mg PO SID x5 days and topical SSD to the open wounds on dorsal and ventral neck BID x3 days. Rescue/foster is ideal while she is healing from the injuries, but if is doing well and wounds are healing appropriately can be made available for adoption. She is very sweet!
