Story
I’m Zoey, a sweet and snuggly 10-month-old Basset mix who is looking for my forever family. I came to BROOD after my previous family adopted me from an animal shelter and soon realized I had too much energy for them. I am full of curiosity and love learning new things. I am friendly and energetic and quite agile for a small hound--I weigh only 38 pounds. I would do well in a home with someone that likes to walk and who will play with me. I am crate trained and keep my kennel dry overnight, too.It doesn’t take me long to bond with my people—I love being close to my family, and I thrive on attention. That’s why I need to be the only dog in the home--I want all the cuddles and affection for myself! I also don’t get along with cats and will happily chase them around, so a cat-free home is best for me. I love playing with toys and can often entertain myself with play. While I may still be discovering my personality, one thing is for sure: I’m great with kids and love spending time with them. Due to my energy level and tendency to jump up, I would be best in a home with older children. Whether we are playing or cuddling, I am always ready for fun.BROOD is short of foster homes right now and I am still in boarding at BROOD’s veterinarian. I would love a foster home or how about a foster-to-adopt home? Contact BROOD at foster@brood-va.org if you want to foster me!If you’re ready to add some extra love and companionship to your life, I would love to meet you! Contact BROOD today to start our journey together. My adoption fee is $100.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of BROOD dogs is an estimate, as very few come with exact age records. 12/23/2024

Story
My name Indy for short. I have an adventurous streak and love exploring the world! I’m a 5-year-old Basset mix found as a stray. When I first came to BROOD, I had a heartworm infection, but after treatment, I’m now healthy, happy, and ready for an active life! Now that I’m feeling great, I absolutely love going on walks! I do get a bit excited and tend to pull, but I’m working on my leash manners every day. I’m working on my house training so I’ll need a patient family to help me fully master this skill.True to my hound roots, I’m quite vocal and enjoy sharing my thoughts—whether it’s about my day, spotting a deer, or letting you know it’s mealtime. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal for me, as I love roaming, sniffing, and soaking up the outdoors. I would not do well in an apartment or condo. I’m a people-lover and make friends with everyone I meet, including kids who stop for a quick pet on my walks. I get along with other dogs but would be ok by myself. I enjoy playing with toys, especially a Kong stuffed with snacks, and I’m always up for learning new tricks if there are treats involved. I already know commands like “sit,” “down,” and “kennel.”If you’re looking for a loyal, adventurous, and sweet companion, I’m your guy! Contact BROOD today to start our adventures together. My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. Story
Hi there, I’m Warren! I’m a 5 to 7-year-old Basset mix with a laid-back personality. My ears might not be as long as some, but they’re perfect for me!Let’s get the important stuff out of the way—I have a few medical conditions that require daily medications for life. The good news is that I’m doing much better since I was rescued. BROOD will even cover the cost of these medications and supplements to help me stay healthy.I’m fully house-trained, and can even use a doggie door. I love hanging out in the yard while my foster mom works. I do not like being crated and I prefer a home with fewer steps to climb.I’m a social guy who loves meeting new people and other dogs. Sometimes, I’m so excited about my new friends that I try to follow them home! I’d do well with a canine sibling or as an only dog—I’m flexible as long as I get plenty of love.Playtime is the best, especially with squeaky toys (check out my video!). Afterward, I’m more than happy to settle down in my comfy dog bed for a snooze. I’m mellow, easygoing, and would fit in beautifully with any family. I rarely bark and I’m always ready to show off my “sit” skills for a treat. If you’re looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion who will adore you forever, I’m your guy! Contact BROOD today to meet me. My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
Are you ready to be adored? Trixie will find a way to be close to you wherever you are. She'll want to sit by you and stare deeply (into your soul, we think). She is fully housebroken and totally chill with hanging out in her crate when needed. She travels well, no carsickness. She does not have strong needs for daily exercise and is ok without it, but does enjoy her walks. She also enjoys playing fetch. She loves people and quickly becomes BFFs with guests. So why is she listed here, you might ask. Well, Trixie has a little trouble with our other dog. She wants to make sure she has all of the attention! She is the best girl ever...with kids, adults, and guests. She prefers a home with no dogs or cats so she can have all of the love!

More "sought out breeds may have a higher adoption donation) Adoption donations are to be made via cash, or credit/debit card. There is a $5 fee to run cards. We do not accept checks for adoption fees. Please remember to bring a martingale collar and leash (non-retractable) with you the day of the adoption.
