Dog Day Out notes from last week: Today, I was so happy to get out of my kennel! I got to put on a collar and harness, and I got to go in a car!! I love the car! I wanted to help drive, but my new friends said I should eat cookies instead, so I looked out the window. I love going for walks! We walked a long way! I wanted to be in front, but my friends would stop, so I got to give them snuggles when they did that – I like snuggles more than cookies! We saw so many things! People and dogs and lots and lots of bikes! I don't worry about those things though, I have my friends! I almost tried to catch a squirrel, but it got away. That's okay; I gave more snuggles to my friends! Oh! And on the way back, I took a nap – I loved the quiet time. Three Words to Describe Me are affectionate – snuggly - and friendly. Notes from My Walker: Traviesa is such a delight! She pulls on the leash, but it seems like she just never got a chance to learn how to walk on a leash before. She did amazing on the busy trail – we saw bikes, walkers, and dogs, and she was non-reactive to almost everything. The small, barky dog got her attention, but he started talking first, and she displayed interest, with no reactive lunging or barking. She is not a cookie girl, but she LOVES to snuggle. We love it when dogs on the trail check in with their human friends, but Traviesa was at another level; she would stop and lean in for a hug before continuing the walk! She is a sweet, gentle, loving dog who deserves a home that will let her learn and give her the chance to be a fantastic companion dog.

Coco is just a sweet, sweet boy. Curious, goofy, loving, and energetic - he loves everyone, and sees the best in them. Coco currently lives with two older 4-legged brothers and, while he would love to live with a fur-sibling, he is not part of a bonded pair. As long as he has fur friends to play with, Coco will be a happy boy! When playing with his human pals, in typical puppy fashion Coco can be a bit jumpy and mouthy, but that's easily addressed with a firm voice and a 15 minute walk :-) He's very verbally responsive and wants to please. Sweet Coco has been perfectly house trained since day one, loves car rides, and while he is working on his leash manners, he loves to go for walks and is learning not to pull in excitement when he meets new friends - that is Everyone! 07/12/24 11:45Sidney is a beautiful Belgian Malinois mix who is a little over two-years-old. She is still learning how to be a dog because we have noticed that she gets nervous in the outside world. We think she simply needs more experience and exposure to busy human environments.Sidney does so well in our doggie playgroups. She loves other dogs and we here at the shelter consider her a playgroup star. She loves playing in the pool with her dog friends, running around, and playing with toys. Sidney also does well with our shelter staff. She has learned how to sit and stay down for treats.Sidney needs to find her furever person who will continue to expose her to the world and build up her confidence.06/04/24 22:47DOG DAY OUT REPORT I’ve been in the shelter since January and today was my first Doggie Day Out. I was a little nervous on my big day out, but my friend helped show me a good day. Getting in the car seemed too high for me, but my friend gave me treats and helped me inside. I laid down and enjoyed the treats she gave me. My friend took me on a nearby neighborhood walk. People running and bicycling towards me made me nervous and my friend understood and made sure we had space. I could then watch the world and relax and take in the sights and smells and have an enjoyable day. It was nice to get outside and see the world and get lots of yummy treats and a toy.Three Words to Describe Me are: Gorgeous, Active, Nervous Notes from My Walker: Sidney is a gorgeous Belgian Malinois mix who has been in the shelter since January. She was easy to harness, but nervous to get in the car (both leaving and returning). With treats and coaxing, she allowed me to lift her inside. We first went to a hiking trail, but it was a bit much for her. She was reactive towards a bicycle that sped by out of nowhere and she kept jumping into the brush at every little animal noise so I decided to start with a neighborhood walk for an easier first adventure. Sidney was nervous about fast movements towards her, including bicycles and runners, and she would bark. She was too nervous to accept treats but did engage in a little bit of play with a squeaky toy I brought. I gave her space and ensured our side of the neighborhood street was empty and she was able to relax. 06/05/24 14:53Is in a half kennel, front of kennel, barking, jumping on to kennel door. Once leashed he walks out but bites at leash and yelps when he feels the leash get tight. When going for a walk he is still barking and jumping on handler. He gets frustrated when he stands still, will start snapping at leash, jumping on to handler and grabbing on to clothes. When going for a restrain he tries jumping out, mouthy, and yelps. When in the yard he does seek attention but will get overstimulated quick (bites leash, bites clothes, jumps on handler).Unable to safely restrain. Adopter must sign waiver understanding that this dog will need training due to his erratic behavior. Making available for adoption with waiver. LB

Bella is a 1 year old German Shepherd mix whom we saved from the euthanasia list of Contra Costa Animal Service shelter and are currently fostering. She weighs a petite 50lb. She is spayed, up-to-date on all shots (DA2PPV, bordetella, rabies) and microchipped. Bella is very playful, and would especially enjoy a good game of fetch! Her leash walking is very good with little training. She passes other dogs and humans on walks with no problem. She is crate trained and can stay alone in a crate quietly for 6 hours. She loves interacting with you, bumping and licking your hands. She learns new stuff fairly quickly. I have taught her "sit" and "down" very easily. She is good with other dogs. Just need time to slowly introduce them. She has become best friends with my resident dog and they play together daily now. Osito is two years old. I adopted him from a local shelter where he was an owner surrender. He lived in a backyard with his GSD family. He is friendly with all sized dogs, but new to the world outside. He has medium energy is fearful of police officers, with a medium prey drive. He loves car rides, running, chewing on and playing with toys, and eating treats. Osito will do best in a 2 person home with one person who works remotely or is home often. He does not like being alone more than 4 hours on his separation anxiety medication. Osito loves white meat boneless chicken, lean ground beef sprinkled on his kibble, and blueberries. He also loves non raw hide bones and dental chews. Osito wakes up at night and needs to go potty outside so he will do best in a quiet neighborhood that has a backyard or land he can explore, he loves sniffing with not too much animal or human traffic. Osito likes to chase birds squirrels and bunnies. No cats or small children, but maybe a dog companion.
