SWEET PEACEFUL STRAWBERRY SWIRL  Meet Strawberry Swirl, the sweet and quiet brown Boston Terrier with a heart full of love and a gentle spirit! She’s a music lover who enjoys acoustic guitar, but what she loves most is being held close and showered with affection. After a rough start with a breeder surrender, Strawberry Swirl is blossoming into the loving companion she was always meant to be, and she’s looking for a forever home to call her own. She’s friendly with other dogs, loves soaking up the fresh air, and has a special fondness for turkey – it’s her favorite treat! Strawberry Swirl is also a big fan of walks, happily exploring the world around her. While she’s wee-wee pad trained indoors, she also enjoys her outdoor adventures. Story
Put Short Bio here: Sweet Cinnamon is a Velcro dog who loves anyone she meets. She wants to always be near her people and she's very kind to animals she meets without being overly curious about them. She's still learning to be a dog-she's just now figuring out toys and treats. She doesn't understand going up or down stairs and doesn't understand how to jump. We're working on commands, but even for not knowing any-she's still a very good girl.Fill out all below:Personality & Characteristics: Energetic kisser, loves a sun spot, good with noises and music, adjusts to any environment well. Does NOT like baths or a blow dryer. My foster dog is good with: she's always been good with dogs on our walks, and been very good saying hi to kids. She's loved to give kisses. My foster dog is: House trained, comfortable in crate but doesn't like to be left alone.3 Keywords for your pup:Energy Level (1= calm, 10= high energy): she's a 10 when she's playing, but she's mostly a 3 or 4Barker? Or Quiet Pup?: barking when left alone.Walking Manners: fast walker but not a leash puller. Doesn't understand any commands yet.Appetite: always down for food but never begs.Does the following: she has pretty bad separation anxiety-whining and barking when she's left alone in her crate. Shes learning to tolerate a bath but is gets very scared of a blow dryer. She's a low shedding quick drying dog though so she's fine with a towel dry.Favorite Things: being close to her person always, making friends, fish treats, sleeping on anything fluffy.Commands/Tricks:none ALL adoptions require a completed application and final contract. Story
Frankie - 5.5 years old, Mixed Breed - Boston Terrier Mix, 30.1lbs, (needs to lose 3lbs), Spayed  Our Team Says: "Frankie needs to be in a grownup only home. Not a good fit for young kids - okay in a home with respectful older teenagers".  Her Foster Parents Say: "Frankie is an incredibly smart, sweet, and loyal dog. She is happiest curled up by your side while you're watching tv or by your feet when you are working. She wants to be with her people at all times. She is ok staying back at home if you need to leave her for 3-4 hours once in a while, but she'd be happiest with a work from home parent or someone that can bring her to work. She finds various ways to communicate, for example she'll tap her water or food bowl when she wants more food or water. She's potty trained and she will let you know when she has to go out by gently pawing at you. Her other favorite activity is playing catch with a ball or chewing on her nylabone. I always feel safe with Frankie by my side at night as she loves to protect her people. She's not a dog that will bark at any random noise, she's incredibly smart, she knows when something is "off" from a normal routine, she'll low growl or bark to let me know when there's a stranger in the stairwell in the middle of the night when they shouldn't be there, for example. Frankie does not like toddlers or young kids. She's stayed with someone who owned a cat and a parrot and got along great with them, so she's ok with other animals. However if there's another dog in the house she may not get along with them unless it's a very laid back dog." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy Level: MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Cuddle Bug Level Higher -- Loves to be near a lap or at your feet  Potty TrainedYes -- Few or no accidents  Comfy with strangers?  Yep -- Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.  Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) Not a great match for a home with kids -- calm teenagers and up is okay, this pup is either mouthy and rambunctious or sensitive and requires either a low key, quiet home or a grownup only home willing do training  Social with Other Dogs? Mostly -- Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example)  Respectful of Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.)  Yes -- Seems to get along with other animals, either tries to play with them or is mostly uninterested  Mouthy Behavior? Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff -- only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones.  Leash Manners? Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.  Okay in the city? Yes -- Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, they may as well have been born here. Jumping on People to Say Hi? Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction.  Separation Anxiety? Nope – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or do anything shitty when you leave the apartment or house.  Crate training? Not at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. She did have a knee surgery to correct her minor patella luxation last year to prevent any future problems down the line. She has no health issues now and her knees are now great: super important for her to not be overweight.  How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Puerto Rico or Southern California. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Story
Marshall Mathers - 11 years, 18lbs, Boston Terrier, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs socializing opportunities outside the home and a little mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice or chew items. Potty trained?Probably! Seniors usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. Seniors tend to need potty breaks more often than younger dogs though, and they can lose their ability to fully control their potty habits as they continue to age, so willingness to be flexible with cleanup and wee pads if necessary is important.  Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some enjoy the company of other calm dogs, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats?Probably. Seniors are usually mellow enough that they are able to coexist well with cats.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most seniors do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
