Story
Chihuahua Cherish came to us from a kill shelter in Indiana. This is a nice, friendly girl who is good with people & other dogs. She is very sweet, happy but would benefit from some basic obedience and confidence building. Her approx. birth date is 10/10/23 and she currently weighs 9# full grown. We are guessing at her breed make up. She has been vet. checked, spayed, micro chipped, is up to date on routine shots & wormings including rabies, and has been treated with flea & heart worm preventative per our protocol. She is heart worm & tick born illness negative. She has a cherry eye repair. Her adoption donation is $350 and needs to be cash, certified check, money order or a debit/credit card. There is a 3% processing fee when using a debit/credit card. We do not ship or transport. Please email for an application if you would like to provide this nice kid with her forever home. ##2266668##

Story
Hello there, I’m Henry, an 8-year-old Chihuahua-Terrier mix with a big personality packed into a small frame! Think of me as a little gentleman with a dash of spunk—I enjoy the finer things in life, like cozy blankets, leisurely strolls, and a good sunbeam to nap in. I prefer a more refined audience, so I’d do best in a home with kids over 10 who understand that a distinguished pup like me values his space. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a touch of terrier charm, I just might be your perfect match!

Story
Charlie is a 7 year old Chihuahua mix who is the perfect mix of good manners, warm snuggles and medium energy for a laid back home. He is playful, but is not hyper, so he would make a great dog for any type of family, with kids or without. He walks very well on a leash and loves his time with humans. He loves getting his ears rubbed and his neck scratched. He does well passing by the other dogs at the shelter and does not show any aggression. He is a little timid at first, but warms up very quickly. Because he is small he would make a great addition to your favorite chair in the living room! He would definitley love to share a chair with you. Come and meet Charlie! ##2190449##

Story
SPECIAL NEEDS...SEIZURES Beans is looking for a specialhome Beans was found as a stray and never claimed. This little guy is 2 years old and weighs 7#. He is a little Chi mix with some spice thrown in.. Although he is small he is mighty. While Beans can be a little sass butt he knows how to turn on the charm and be sweet and snuggly. While I've been fostering Beans he has had a few seizures. Mostly they have been when he is worked up. Being little and bossy can add up to  butting heads with dogs that are also bossy. He then suffered a seizure. Due to the length and frequency of his seizures it was determined that he needed medication to help prevent further seizure activity. Beans has responded well to his prescription of Phenobarbital. This drug is commonly prescribed for dogs with seizures. We have had one break through seizure that was short lasting and mild compared to previous ones. The cost of his medication was $34 for 1 month supply at my pharmacy. I'm sure if you search around you might find it cheaper else where. Beans will also need to have bloodwork every 6 months to monitor his levels and kidney and liver values. The cost will vary by clinics. Many dogs with seizures can live a long happy life.  While we have covered his medical needs I feel it's important to remember that Beans is a happy, funny little guy. He does well with dogs that don't mind him being the boss. He needs a secure fenced yard and children 10 or older in the home. He is crate trained and continues to work on his housetraining skills. Currently he wears a bellyband when he is free roaming the house and doesn't mind it one bit. Does great with cats. Really he just wants to be with his people living his best life. To apply for Beans please visit www.trackingintheshadows.com Adoption fee. 200We do not adopt to homes with underground/ electric fencingAll pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines and heartworm prevention Bean's adoption fee is $200. Applications for adoption are at www.trackingintheshadows.com.  Please live within 1 hour of Cassopolis, MI or Elkhart, IN.  Once approved, we will set up a day/time for you to meet Jumping Bean.  Please be ready to take him home within 1-3 days. *We do not accept electric/underground fences. Story
LEONARDIn Foster HomeDo you have room in your heart for a special-needs dog? We can tell from the way he bobs his head when stressed and circles and spins when he is excited that he has something unique going on in his little head. If we had to guess his breed, we think a terrier mix with maybe some Boston terrier, chihuahua or French bulldog in there. Leonard loves the company of other dogs and would make a great playmate for a dog who enjoys a good game of chase or wrestling. He really needs another dog around in order to be happy. Leonard has come a long way toward being potty trained, given ample opportunities to go outdoors. He also is using potty pads indoors. He has a beautiful shiny blue coat which makes him stand out from the pack. He likes to hang out with the people without having to sit on a lap or be cuddled too much. He seems to be mesmerized by things daily and is always cocking his head in the cutest way. His foster mom works from home and he LOVES that. If you have dreams of him being an obedience champion, you’ll have to let those go. He really is a very simple fella who just wants a good home with a playful dog or two and some people who will be around a lot and let him be who he is. DOB 3/15/22 18 PoundsI'm waiting for a home to call my own. email webmaster@petrefuge.com to learn more about me or fill out an application at https://www.petrefuge.com/adoptPet Refuge was formed in 1978 to help with cats and dogs in need of homes. Story
Name: Rex Gender: Male Breed Guess: Chihuahua Mix Age: 5 years old Weight Guess: 8-10 pounds Cats: Yes Children: No Dogs: Yes, would do best with another dog. Meet and Greet Required Adoption fee: $350 Hello! I'm a timid guy who takes time to bond with people, but I promise I'm worth the wait! I recently lost my person of many years and I'm still feeling a little sad about it. Right now, I find the most comfort in other dogs - I do great with cats, but having another dog around gives me confidence and makes me happy. I understand that people take care of my needs, but for now, I prefer bonding with my four-legged friends first. I need a quiet and patient home because quick movements and loud noises can scare me. I'm still working on potty training - I know to go outside, but I need a good schedule to avoid accidents. Speaking of the outdoors, I love being outside, but I'm an extreme flight risk. I need someone who is slow and gentle with me, but can also react quickly if I become spooked. A fully fenced in yard is ideal, but even then, I should be leashed at first - if I run, you will have a hard time catching me! When it comes to food, I'm a bit picky. Dry food isn't really my thing, but wet food and hot dogs - now you're speaking my language! Once I start to trust you, I absolutely love car rides, especially when I can look out the window and take in the world around me - just no wind in my face, please! I'm harness trained rather than collar trained as my uniquely shaped head makes it too easy for me to slip out of a collar. I'm crate trained and my crate is my safe place. If you have a loving heart and a whole lot of patience, I might be the perfect dog for you. Just remember that I won't bond with you right away but give me time, and I just might surprise you. I've been at the ARP since 2/24/25 and am currently in foster. The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
