Story
Elmer is that old grizzled regular at the local bar who seemed hateful, but always had a quarter for a kid to win a prize from the claw machine. Life has made him quick to defend himself so you have to be willing to approach a relationship slowly, once he realizes you have lived life and faced challenges, you two will be trading war stories over a soft blanky in no time. An 8-pound chihuahua mix, we believe him to be approximately 8 years young with a zest for life. Even though he has been said to not like all men, the men he's met so far he's been okay with. He did better while taking pictures with Santa, than most children. Elmer gets nervous in new environments, we think a home with a battle buddy would be beneficial. Another doggo to help show him the ropes and understand he's safe. Elmer gets along fine with all dogs, big and small in his foster home. Although he is friendly, proper decompression time will be a key to his success. Elmer is reluctant to get in his crate, once he is in it, he will bark and grumble for a short time but will eventually settle down. When he is let out of his crate, he will jump up while walking to the door to go outside to do his business. Elmer shows his affection by covering you in kisses and being super snuggly with his cuddles. He's a dog that doesn't know how to hold his licker... so be prepared for lots of PDA (Elmer's teeth look really good for his age, very little tarter and "decent" breath!)  He is definitely a dog that needs time to adjust to change, but once you are in you are totally in, and when he loves you, he loves you with all his heart. His adoption fee is $210. He is neutered, current on vaccinations, Heartworm negative, and he is microchipped. If you would like to meet this cute little guy and possibly add him to your family, please complete an application today. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted.

Story
🐶 Buddy and Chippy Need New Homes 🐶Buddy and Chippy came to us when their owner could no longer care for them. They have always lived together since they were babies, and now at 10 years old, they are looking for retirement homes either together or separately.💙 Buddy (the white one) is more social and a total lap dog. He loves to be held and is great on a leash.🤎 Chippy (the tan one) is more of a get-to-know-you kind of dog. He’s more of a one-person dog and is terrified of cats after being bullied by one previously. He will run and hide if he comes in contact with a cat. Both of these boys are past the age of wanting to deal with puppies. If you or someone you know is looking for a loving companion, please reach out! Let's find these sweet boys the perfect homes they deserve. 🏡💕#AdoptDontShop #SeniorDogs #DogRescue #RetirementHomeChippy's adoption fee is $150 UNLESS he is adopted with his friend Buddy and then it is $100. Story
Meet Gypsy - the tiny chihuahua with a big personality! This tiny lady is a total diva and a connoisseur of the finer things in life, which primarily consist of basking in sunbeams, curling up in soft blankets, and nibbling on an endless supply of treats. Her idea of exercise is a leisurely stroll from her bed to the food bowl, and her preferred mode of transportation is a human lap. She enjoys being with people she knows and takes a while to come around to strangers. Gypsy doesn't seem to mind the other dogs that she lives with in her foster home. She's the queen of her castle, and she expects nothing less than the royal treatment. If you're up for the challenge of keeping up with her high standards, Gypsy may just consider you worthy of her company. Do you think you can give our grumpy princess the royal home she is looking for?

Story
Hi, I am Rosie and I am super shy. I am about 6 years old, have been with HART since June 2021 and am looking for a home to call my own. I came from a hoarding situation where over 150 doggies just like me were living together in a small house. My ideal space will either be with one of my friends (King is extra snuggly) or in a home with a dog about my size to hang around. I am a pretty easy going gal and am not territorial about my food, toys or treats. I don't mind cats but a doggie friend is a must for me. I am happiest if I get to roam around a yard with a fence as I have rarely been on a leash and just don't like it. I think I could learn to love humans and their attention but I will need time and patience as I am just learning what it is like to be loved. Think you might be the family for me? Please fill out an adoption application NOW at rescueahart.org as I have been waiting way too long for a place to call my own!

Story
Do you want a small dog companion but NOT a lap dog? Do you want a dog who will run from you rather than towards you? Do you want a dog who prefers the company of other dogs over you? Well then I have got the perfect dog for you!! Please give a warm welcome to Clementine! In all seriousness, she is an adorable little girl. Clementine came to Hart in June 2021 and has been in the same foster home ever since. She with so many others was rescued from a hoarding situation in Tennessee. To this day, she still exhibits nervousness around people. For this reason, she is looking for a very special adopter. The adopter will need to be very patient with her and give her ample time to show her brand of affection. While she still runs from me if I try to approach her to pet her, she does make her way over to me at bedtime for lovings. She will even sleep in bed with me and give me some sweet kisses. But when it’s time to get up, she darts away again. I truly can’t explain it but I have learned to accept it. Clementine does great with her doggy friends. She is most comfortable with other dogs. The ideal adopter will have another dog in the home that will groom and “mother” her. She loves having a dog around that she can curl up with!! Also, since she is hard to catch, a fenced in yard would be best for her. Due to the fact that Clementine can be a challenge to catch and she does not come when called, any meet/greets will have to be done at the adopter’s home and only within 25 miles of the Northern Kentucky area. PS Guard your socks. She loves socks (haha)
