She is definitely a “people” girl who loves affection and hugs. In her previous home she was the only dog and she would prefer to be in an only dog household. She has learned to get along with her submissive collie foster sibling but it did require training and supervision. She has, however, done well with the household cats. Kelly is attentive to all that is going on around her and happily watches from her bed. If you want a dog that prefers dog beds to people furniture, this is your girl. She is very smart and understands Sit, Stay and Shake. She prefers to play with toys with someone rather than playing by herself. If you press a squeaky toy she will take a turn making it squeak right back at you.   Kelly has a few quirks like we all do. She was born with a slight neurological issue which makes her spin. When she is excited she spins. But she can stop in a couple of minutes and then is fine and will follows directions well. She gets overly excited by cars driving by (barks and spins) so a quiet neighborhood or windows that she cannot see out of will keep her secure, mpre calm and happy. If she does see cars, she can be distracted by giving her some attention. Kelly thrives on routine, consistency and repetition and with them can quickly learn the rules and wishes of the humans in her world. She needs a patient loving person that will work with her in a kind way. He enjoys being a bit of a hooligan and enticing his foster dog siblings into roughhousing with him. At two, he still is full of drive and seems to be quite smart. He enjoys the challenge of learning new commands and might enjoy being given the opportunity to learn events like agility. With that said, Finnegan also loves to cuddle his fosters. In particular, he will lay his head in his foster dad’s lap to snuggle and be petted while he naps. Finn must have a home with a fenced-in yard. Cats who are used to large dogs and their antics would do fine with him. Finnegan needs a home where his “fireball” personality and impishness is appreciated and enjoyed. His foster dad said they enjoy watching the bit of chaos he’s brought into their home. Another large dog or two in the home to play with is needed. He is comfortable with other dogs and engages with them, and Dusty is quickly learning that people can be just as fun to be around as dogs. Inside he is mellow and follows his foster or watches from a distance, loving to be included in anything that is going on around the house. He is alert, wants to please and is very treat motivated, so teaching him routines and commands should be fairly simple. He has already learned to “come” and will “stay” when asked. This smart boy was also house trained after the first day. Dusty has learned to go up and down the stairs to go to bed. He is crated when he is alone for a significant period of time but is trustworthy in the bedroom at night. He has a normal young dog’s amount of energy and jumps over a short flower garden perimeter with such joy that his foster wonders if he might love agility training. He needs a secure fenced-in yard since he is a bit shy of strangers and might take off. He does well with women but has consistently been fearful of the men he has come in contact with. Please consider this happy, mellow-in-the-house but fun-loving outside adolescent for your new best friend. NOTE: Dusty needs a physically fenced in yard. Waylon is 1 1/2 and has had a rough start in life by being surrendered by owners and then contracting distemper at the shelter where he was surrendered along with his brother.  Waylon is the sweetest most loving dog.  He wants to be petted and be close to his person.  He loves to go on walks and is excellent on a leash.  Waylon is not able to go for very long walks at this time so we take several short walks so he can enjoy being outside.  Waylon likes to lay on the deck in the mornings while his foster drinks her coffee and soak up the sun and the quiet. Mild-mannered Sam loves to be cuddled. He came to Almost Home with his brother as an owner surrender and unfortunately contracted distemper at the shelter he was taken to. His foster family says his appetite is improving and he is getting stronger every day. He is even starting to engage in play activities and loves to hang out with his foster family. Due to his recovery, his foster family is taking it slow. They report he is great on a leash and knows the sit command. They anticipate that he will be a quick learner since he is attentive, alert and smart.   Sam is a quiet dog. He only barks when he feels it is necessary. He gets surprised by sudden movements and unexpected noises but once he realizes he is safe, he returns back to his gentle relaxed state. His foster family says he is very affectionate and has the adorable habit of wrapping his leg around his foster's leg when he wants to be petted. He is content to sit down and watch TV with them and only wants their love.
