Story
Dr. Frank-N-Furter came to our home in 2014. We rescued him from a large hoarding situation. He has been a treasured part of our family for the last 11 years. Furter (as he is affectionately known) is around 14 years old (we guessed his age and gave him the birthday of October 31). He is great with children and other dogs of all ages. The ideal home for Furter would be one that has: multiple dogs (3-4...he loves being part of a pack), affectionate children, very few stairs, access to a yard, and a primary owner who is able to be home with him. For 14, Furter still has a lot of energy and needs an attentive owner who can also handle his medical needs (special diet, urniary tract issues/incontinence, and skin allergies). This was a difficult decision for our family, and we want Furter to go to a good home.

Please contact Nancy Anderson (nancya@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet elongated girl seeking fresh start and love! RISE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!   Come meet Rise and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (03/16) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, VA (6100A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!   Name:  Rise      Best Guess for Breed: Dachshund and terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of December 2024       Gender:   Female Approximate Weight:   23 lbs Gets Along With: Rise does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a friendly resident dog. We haven't seen her with cats. We would be cautious placing Rise in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus - looking forward to heading to the DC area Special Adoption Considerations: Rise is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Additionally, Rise was rescued off the streets of Puerto Rico and hasn't seen enough of the world yet. She is shy and needs go to a home with a friendly, welcoming dog. Rise is Looking For: Her forever family! She was very relieved to be rescued off the streets in Puerto Rico and now just wants her very own home. But she needs extra patient and loving adopters who understand she hasn't seen enough of the world, and many things are scary. She needs new experiences in new places at her pace. A welcoming resident dog will show her how to dog, and training will help her build her braves as well! And in exchange, she promises all the love in her little body, all the adoring gazes and kisses she's stockpiling in the shelter, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Can you see her trotting along on her little legs by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.  Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life! Story
Meet Amelia. This sweet girl was surrendered to a rural county shelter along with two other pregnant dogs from the same home. Stories like this break our hearts—three expectant moms under one roof, likely the result of unaltered male and female dogs living together. When the shelter reached out for help, Worthy Dog Rescue stepped in. We took in Amelia, and one of our partner rescues welcomed her puppies, ensuring this little family gets the bright future they deserve. Thankfully, Amelia was able to deliver her puppies in the safety and comfort of a foster home, where she proved to be an attentive, loving mom. It was immediately clear that she adores people—she’s affectionate, cuddly, and always eager for human companionship. She also has excellent doggy social skills, getting along with every pup she meets. Currently, she’s in a foster home with a larger dog and three cats. Her foster mom describes her as a very friendly pup who adjusts well to new situations—"A couple of sniffs, and she’s good to go!" She enjoys playdates with a neighbor’s dog and loves romping around with her foster sibling. Amelia is still young, with all the energy and enthusiasm of adolescence. She’s always up for an adventure—whether it’s a walk (which she loves!), a road trip, backyard zoomies, or a car ride. She’s social, confident, and the perfect sidekick for an active household. But when the day winds down, she’s also a champion cuddler, happiest curled up on the couch with her favorite human. She sleeps soundly through the night, nestled in a cozy ball on her foster parent’s bed. House manners? Amelia has them! She’s fully house-trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. She tolerates the crate for treats (even if it’s not her favorite), and her leash skills are decent—she may pull a little when excited to meet a new dog, but only out of friendly enthusiasm. Her foster mom describes her as medium-high energy—she’s playful and active but also respectful of the older dog in the home, knowing when to settle down and entertain herself with a toy or nap. We think that Amelia would thrive in an active home with another playful pup and maybe some kids to romp around with. She’s a fantastic family dog just waiting for the perfect match. Apply today! BREED ESTIMATE: Dachshund Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 30 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 1 to  1.5 years old COAT TYPE:  Short ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Waxhaw, NC -  COMING to DC Metro Area late March   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. Story
Beauregard is a spunky little old man! He’s got two speeds—power walk and napping— and he’s perfected the art of stealing anything soft the moment you stand up (pillows, blankets… dignity? Possibly). His foster family caught him luxuriously sprawled in a laundry basket of clean sheets the other day, looking like royalty. He is so active, alert, and speedy that we still can't believe he's 17 years young. Beauregard LOVES belly rubs and cuddling, though he's also happy to snooze in his bed. He gets chilly easily and like most of us needs to wear a cozy sweater or jacket when it's colder in the house or outside. He recently had his social media manager stage a photo shoot for him in his new hoodie because he was feelin' fly. His ideal furever family will love curating a snug wardrobe for him. Beauregard's social skills are top notch and he is a true master of negotiation — he even sweet-talked his hound foster brother into sharing his bed. He loves meeting all the people, children, and dogs he can possibly meet. He is always excited to go on a walk and is a gentleman on the leash. He is great at navigating outdoor steps but needs his human to help him navigate those slippery indoor hardwood stairs. Fostered in Winchester, VA Please apply to adopt at MirisHaven.org
