Story
Meet Rebel, the most terrified of the group of 10 little ones we took in from a home that ended up with too many dogs due to lack of spay/neuter. So of course she’s our favorite 😍. She peed all over the aco that removed her from the home and peed and pooped all over us the day we got her. We do love a good feral project dog. You can see her progress over the past 2 weeks as you swipe through her pics, from totally shut down and feral, avoiding eye contact, trying to make herself invisible, and panicking and running from us, to actually starting to come up and greet us happily and seek out petting! She’s not even 3 years old, still a baby and her inner puppy energy comes out more and more each day. The has the perfect short long body of a standard wirehaired doxie but with an almost human-like face stuck onto her. She was a chunky 21lbs and has lost a couple already but should be more like 17 probably. She had never been to a vet or left the only home she ever knew before, and will panic and likely regress at first moving to another home but we can see what a sweet special girl she has the potential to be with the right person. She loves and takes comfort from other dogs and will need a calmer adult home, preferably just one or 2 people, and at least one other dog friend she can learn from and follow. She’s never been walked on a leash or experienced so many normal dog things, but she’s been learning to follow the other dogs out into a fenced yard to go to the bathroom and also uses wee wee pads. She has a shorter wiry coat than most of the others from her group and is not a non-shedding breed that requires grooming more than a good brushing every now and then- gotta love that scruffy wash and wear coat! Email njwoof@cs.com if you think your home might be a good fit for our special shy girl Rebel. She’s been spayed, updated on shots, and is fostered in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Lots of new arrivals this week already! 😩 First up, meet Midnight! This sweet senior looks like a giant doxie, and we mean GIANT! She’s a whopping 53lbs right now, though she needs to lose at least 10. She’s a gentle cuddly 9 year old couch potato, maybe doxie mix with basset and lab? 🤷‍♀️ or corgi? She has the perfect long body and short twisty little legs we doxie addicts adore and is always staring up at you smiling, an oversized lapdog. She’s always lived with other dogs and is just an all around sweet soul. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet Midnight in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
This little pretty chocolate dappled girl is called Mazie and goodness what a cracker jack she is.  Don’t for minute let those green eyes and chocolate marbled coat fool you to think she is gentle or easy.  She is the CEO of dogs and will run the show at your house if given the chance.  Mazie is 30 pounds and 9 months old.  She is a breed mix of Dachshund and Basset Hound we are told.  Her pics make her look big but she is a “tiny but mighty” little girl.  Mazie is not a fan of any other female dogs in her life or around her.  We don’t know where that came from but the dislike is there so we say…don’t ignore the warning.  She is great with big male dogs, not good with other small dogs or cats, but loves people deeply and wants to be around them.  She needs a fenced yard because she is a runner as most Dachshunds can be and she needs to be able to run and play and get her energy out daily.  Older children would be better for her and she is crate trained, 90% housebroken and she adores going for walks; a very good girl on a leash we can say.  She is beautiful but a “tad” bit complicated, which is why we have outlined the Likes and Dislikes of this girl to a TEE!  We want the right and perfect home and there are lots out there that can give her that.  Tiny but Mighty little Mazie is ready for a home NOW!  Please email us at Critter Cavalry Rescue : ccrnewengland@gmail.com  Tell us where you live when you email asking for information and an application. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.August 18, 2024, 12:50 pm

Story
Returned to 11th Hour Rescue through no fault of her own, this spunky senior is now looking for a quiet home to live out her life.  At 14 years old and all of 12lbs, she is such a loving little lapdog for someone who is home most of the time.   She likes her walks and will take the lead as she has plenty of spirit and loves the outdoors.  But she is otherwise low-key, is house-trained, and a great companion for a stay-at-home worker or couple that pamper senior dogs. No more stairs for her, but she is easily carried! She prefers dogs her size as bigger dogs scare her.   Her adoption fee is $205, and she is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped.  Please consider this beautiful little mix so she can live out her life in a permanent home once and for all.  Apply at ehrdogs.org and ask for SHELLEY LONESTAR!  August 19, 2024, 7:22 am

Story
Oscar is a dark brown dachshund, who is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He is potty trained and walks on a leash. We purchased him from a breeder. He came with a few back toes missing (from birth), which don't seem to impede is walking or running. He is generally a sweet, high-energy dog. He is a barker and, as with most dachshunds, tends to get attached to one person and not to others. We have a lot of activity and people over in our home and he is excitable and barks a lot (no biting). He would do well in a quieter home, one with a single person or a couple. He gets along with our two other dogs. He just has a tendency to bark and get excited at any sound, so he would be happier in a quieter home without kids running around.

Story
A very pregnant Mama Birdie was found wandering the streets of Bastrop, TX, last October and taken into rescue. On 11/3/2023 she gave birth to a litter of Dachshund/Cattle Dog mix puppies. The pups are now 6 months old and would love to find forever homes where they can get the love & training they need as pups to grow into wonderful adult dogs. Ollie and his siblings are in foster care but are not living in a home environment so they will need help with socialization, house training, crate training, etc. Ollie currently weighs 30 pounds. Mama Birdie weighs only 25 pounds. If you are interested in adopting Ollie, please complete an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention his name, ATDR OLLIE!August 17, 2024, 11:40 am
