About Pierre: Pierre is wonderfully kind and energetic 12 year old miniature dachshund. He is a great companion and is excellent around chrildren. Pierre has a an outsized personality and loves meeting new people on walks. In fact, he likes people even more than his fellow canine, and likes being the center of attention. While Pierre has a lot of fun with smaller dogs, he can get a little standoffish and scared around large dogs, especially pit bulls. The fear comes from two separate instances where he was bitten by dogs of that breed. Pierre’s overall health is excellent for his age. The areas to watch out for to maintain his health is trying to ensure he doesn’t jump too frequently from high places like couches. On two occasions, he has slipped his disc, which can be treated if it occurs with anti inflammatory medications and muscle relaxants for 1-2 weeks. All dogs are located in NY/NJ area All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social. Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate! Howdy Partners, I am a very handsome brindle lowrider built like a little tank, 2.5 years old, 28 lbs, and my name is Choke 'cause I was found in Choke Canyon State Park. I was wandering around all by my lonesome, and the lady who found me became my foster mom, and I couldn't be more grateful to be safe and well cared for. The vet thinks I’m a Dachshund mixed with who knows what, but whatever my breed mix, I’m a looker and a sweetheart, friendly with everyone, including humans young and old, other dogs, and kitty cats. I can be shy when first meeting people, but I make friends quickly and love wholeheartedly. I’m like a little sausage-shaped shadow following you from room to room, supervising all your tasks, and patiently waiting for a pat on the head and maybe a doggy treat, LOL. I’m playful but not into dog toys. I love going for walks, and I walk nicely on a leash without pulling. I listen intently when you talk to me, with my big ears honing in on every word you say. I share kisses with everyone. I enjoy sleeping in bed with you. I enjoy sunbathing on a pretty day. I’m not a couch potato and would enjoy tagging along on any fun activity or ride in the car. We got Leo 6 years ago from Puppyspot and since then he was an endless source of fun and laughter. 2.5 years ago we had our first son and they were best pals since then until Leo attacked him a month ago. We were hoping to fix that until another bite happened so it is clear now that Leo needs a new home, preferably with no small kids. However he's very friendly with adults and when we have guests he relentlessly bothering each and everyone to pet him. He's home trained and overall well behaved but as a dachshund he can be a stubborn one and finds his way around (no sleeping on a couch? No problem! I won't do it while you're looking, but once you're gone...). He's also good with other small and medium dogs but has issues with big breeds as he was attacked by one years ago. He can be loud, but again, that is just a classic dachshund. He's not neutered because of the complex condition, one of the testicles never dropped so he needs an abdomen cut.
