Story
Suzie Q is a 2 year old female German Shepard mix. She is a sweetheart and loves people. She tolerates other dogs but would love to be in a home where she is the center of attention. She has had limited exposure to cats and was inclined to chase. Suzie just completed two weeks of professional trading at Goin to the Dogs and did wonderfully. She now walks on and off a leash, knows basic obedience commands and listens beautifully! All that is left is for her to find her forever home!January 5, 2025, 10:32 pm

Story
Nutmeg is one of 7 puppies that appear to be a Cur mix. She is a beautiful tan color with a dark colored muzzle. These puppies were born to a female that belonged to a homeless gentleman. He authorized WAR to take temporary custody of the female to allow her to have her puppies in safety and get her fixed. She gave birth to 7 beautiful puppies. After the puppies were weaned and WAR was able to get her fixed and vaccinated, she was returned to the homeless individual. The puppies stayed with WAR and they are ready to be adopted by their forever families. Nutmeg is leash and kennel trained. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Nutmeg, please visit the Wilton Animal Rescue website and complete an adoption application! https://wiltonanimalrescue.com/adoption-application/January 5, 2025, 5:42 pm

Story
Meet Kelsey...a true Cinderella story.  At the age of 4 months Miss Kelsey, she was surrendered to Franklin Ranch Hospital by her family because she had a foreign body obstruction and they were gonna put her down. The vet, however, felt like Kelsey had so much life to live and so did the staff. After trying themselves to get her rehomed, they were out of time, so they called Wilton Animal Rescue for help. True to the mission of Wilton Animal Rescue, Carol and Leon agreed to take Kelsey and give her a second chance. When Miss Kelsey came to WAR she was still very young and lacked obedience training, so she didn't know what was expected of her. Christina of Paws in Motion offered her services for Kelsey at her board and train facility. Kelsey responded beautifully to training and is ready to find her forever family. Check out the wonderful video that Paws in Motion put together showing off Kelsey's skills! https://www.facebook.com/100094654841922/videos/1237860203994393 Kelsey is about a year old. We believe she is a Shar-Pei & German Shepard mix. She is very well trained thanks to Christina at Paws in Motion and would be best suited for an active family with older children at least 8 years old. While she likes children, she might unintentionally injure a smaller child due to her high energy.  She is amazing and loves her humans whole-heartedly. Her favorite things on earth are running, having someone to play with (preferably older kids & active adults), snuggling, focused training, having a job, her toys, giving kisses, and making new doggie friends. PIM is offering Kelsey’s adoptive family 3 free lessons with Kelsey for an easy transition into your home. They will teach you everything about Kelsey’s training and handling skills! If you are interested in Kelsey, please complete an adoption application at the WAR website. You won't regret bringing this beautiful pup into your life. https://wiltonanimalrescue.com/adoption-application/January 5, 2025, 11:16 pm

Story
Johny (aka Journey) has had quite the "journey" making his way to WAR's care. WAR first came in contact with Journey when he escaped from a car and refused to come back to his owner. WAR responded to a plea on social media and was able to trap him. After trapping him, we found that he had a severe case of foxtails embedded in the webbing of his feet. WAR agreed to have him treated by a vet and he had surgery to remove the foxtails from his paws. After surgery, WAR microchipped him and returned him to his owner, who was staying with a relative at the time. The owner was advised that Journey had just undergone surgery on his paws and needed to be kept indoors and his paws treated daily during his recovery. WAR followed up later and learned that the owner and his relative had turned Journey back outside and he was not receiving the post operative care he needed. Carol went back to the residence to offer her services and learned that the owner had left the residence on foot with Journey and no one knew where they were. It was learned that the owner was homeless and had only been at the residence temporarily.  After a great deal of time, WAR received a call from a shelter in Oregon. They had picked up Journey and had been unable to reach the registered owner. WAR was listed as a secondary contact, so they reached out to us. We quickly sent a plea out to social media to get help transporting Journey from the shelter in Oregon back to WAR. With the help of our amazing community of supporters, we were successful in bringing him back to us.  Fast forward to May/June of 2024..Journey was very happy to be back with us. He was very sweet, loving and playful, but was in need of some obedience training to work on his basic commands, recall and leash training. We put another plea out on social media for a local trainer who would be willing to volunteer their time to work with Journey and were quickly contacted by Tina Garcia from Goin to the Dogs who graciously volunteered her time. The results were outstanding!  Journey is now ready to be adopted into his forever home. He is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. If you have any questions about Journey, you can send an email to wiltonanimalrescue@gmail.com. If you would like to meet him or are interested in adopting, please complete an Adoption Application by clicking on the following link: https://wiltonanimalrescue.com/adoption-application/January 5, 2025, 5:42 pm

Story
Thelma is a beautiful Great Pyrenees mix approximately 4 years old. With her stunning white coat that resembles a Golden Retriever, she is sure to steal your heart. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her vaccinations.  Thelma came to us very sweet but insecure. Channa with K9 Paw Patrol graciously volunteered her time to work with Thelma and what a difference she has made for her! Here are the comments she made on her Facebook page about working with Thelma... "Lets welcome our beautiful girl Thelma! Thelma comes from a rescue that works as a team and the closest family I have personally ever met to find these beautiful dogs homes. Thelma is a Great Pyrenees that looks a little bit like a husky but had a lot of low self esteem and confidence due to a very unforgiving background as to how she ended up in the rescue. She came to me in hopes that we could get her to open up a little bit and learn how to do something she had never known before...Trust, and show us the goofy girl we know she is. Thelma isn't too sure about new people and had a hard time adapting to new environments. Thelma came to me as a very skittish, shy and jumpy girl. In the few weeks of training, she gained confidence and started opening up a little bit. She started looking to me for guidance, instead of completely avoiding eye contact and began trusting me to show her the ropes. She needs someone who can give her the love, care, patience and kindness that she desperately needs." And here are some videos of Thelma in action... Walking on leash:  https://videos.files.wordpress.com/UtRub028/thelma-vid-leash-1.mp4 Confidence-building and impulse control at Home Depot: https://videos.files.wordpress.com/GMbLBGOI/thelma-vid-hd-1.mp4 https://videos.files.wordpress.com/9iZr133p/thelma-vid-hd-2.mp4 Thelma loves to go on walks and does well indoors. Thelma dreams of finding her forever home...an indoor haven with an active family who will take her on magical walks and adventures! NOTE: Despite her breed, Thelma is NOT a suited to be a livestock guardian dog. January 7, 2025, 10:23 pm
