Approximate DOB 08/05/2020 Size - 70 lbs History- An awesome woman and her family took in a couple dogs and before they could get them fixed they had puppies. Luckily they reached out to us for help. We accepted her into our mother/pup program so now that the puppies are old enough to leave mom we will have mom spayed and she can remain with her owner and we will place the babies. Mom is a Red Heeler/Mastiff mix and dad is a Labrador Retriever mix. We have named all 8 babies after the cast from Lucifer as that is what we are currently watching - Lucifer (Shadow), Mazikeen, Ella, Kane, Amenadiel, Linda, Chloe, and Dan. However, after being adopted he got used to the name Shadow so are keeping that one instead.    Temperament- Very, very high energy - loves kisses.  Loves learning and is eager to follow instruction. He might be amazing for someone wanting an agility dog, a running partner, a hiking partner, etc. He is overall well behaved but does get over excited meeting new people and can't help but start jumping!! With a prong collar though he acts correctly. He is also a tad tricky - So when meeting strangers he will act excited to meet them and he will be sweet and act as though they are friends however if they leave and then come over later when you are not home he does act like he does not know them and will act like Cujo. So just be aware he is a fierce guard dog when it comes to his home and family - if his family is not there. Currently he is left inside when I am not home as people can't be trusted to not put their hand in the fence to pet him and I am not sure if he will bite but suspect he might if they don't listen to the growls and barks to move back away from the fence (told to me by our neighbor who thought they were friends as she always gives him treats and pets him when we are standing at the fence talking- she truly loves him and thought they were bffs until one day I left him outside while I ran out for a bit and she thought she would give him treats and pets at the fence since he had nobody to hang out with since I had left and she said he was a different dog than she was used to loving on.  So that is his only major quirk which isn't all that bad if you have him inside loose and live alone you know you will be protected.    Energy Level- Very, very high energy! He runs and plays all day outside with Phoebe and then will continue to play fetch with me. This guy would do great with a very active family maybe that goes on 4 wheelers or something he can run with and hop on when he gets tired. He doesn't do well in the heat though and will prefer to be inside in air conditioning once it get too hot outside for him. Dogs/Cats- He is super high energy and freaks some dogs out but then does calm down with time. He does do better with females than males.  He is good with all sizes of dogs but yea we do say females better than males as he is a very dominant dog. However, upon saying that he is scared of my male chihuahua but he grew up with Tug being the boss so that is just what he is used to. He did get adopted with the family that adopted his brother but the two started fighting badly so he was returned so a female would be best for him as he never fights with the girls here. He loves the girls and all the puppies.   Housetrained-  Perfectly house and crate trained. This boy has never marked or had an accident. However he does rip up his bedding if he does not get enough outside playtime. A tired dog is a good dog definitely fits him.    Shadow will make the perfect addition to an active family wanting a large active dog to take on adventures- hiking, 4 wheeling, hunting, etc.  He would do best in an adult only home due to his guardian instincts possibly from the mastiff in him. He gets way to excited with kids- for instance when my 2 year old granddaughter comes over he jumps on the couch to where she is so he can lick her to death but he doesn't realize how big he is so knocks her over she now goes in my room when he is being let in or out. Not because he is mean but because he will barrel right over on top of her to give her love- so she gives him treats in his crate. So he loves kids but just a little too much and I've tried to stop it but she prefers to not deal with him. My other granddaughter is 11 and puts her knee up and tells him to sit so he doesn't jump all over her and so he does good with her but she has been around him since he was a baby so even with his size and hyper behavior isn't scared of him and knows how to control him but he might scare kids so adults are best. Shadow is an amazing dog with his family and people who know him -  he never jumps on me, he does as he's told, and is just perfect for me but is hyper with strangers (though has calmed down a lot as he's gotten a little older) and can act like Cujo if his family isn't around.  He does love fetch and will play non stop. But he will also sit with me on the couch and watch tv. He is just n easy dog just needs to meet more people to calm down a bit and learn proper behavior with more strangers who don't mind meeting a large rambunctious dog. He tries to be good when my daughter comes over because she will get mad at him but once in a while he will still jump straight up in front of her to give her a kiss!!!!     Adoption fee $150 includes neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need.  Send us an e-mail to adopt@almosthomenm.org requesting an application to adopt this sweetie!! Approximate DOB 08/11/2022 Size - maybe 50 lbs - his mom is about 45 but he is a big boy History- This guy was picked up by animal control with his mom (Phoebe) and sister (Monica) running at large. At that time the puppies were about 5 weeks old and just following mom as she looked for food. They then spent about 6 weeks in the shelter with no interest. After 6 weeks the shelter was packed with no open kennels and they were asking for help and sent out some photos of dogs who had been there a long time that could end up on the euthanasia list if one had to be made. We let them know we would take them and picked them up the next morning. Sadly the shelter is very small with few staff members and a bunch of dogs- which means that puppies don't really get the socialization they need at a shelter so they were pretty fearful when we got them. The little girl would run from us every chance she got and they hid under and behind their mom. They have now been with us for a few weeks and doing much better but will need patient homes with a focus on love and training- spending as much time as possible with family members and meeting new people. Temperament- He tries to be very brave but is still a little worried. Extremely smart but still acts a little fearful. Doesn't accept cuddles as he didn't grow up with them but now loves attention and pets. Ross is very treat motivated. Energy Level- Very high energy  Dogs/Cats- They have met the other dogs here and love to play chase. They are very submissive puppies when meeting the others. Terrified of the cats. Housetrained- They currently stay in the laundry room with a baby gate and are completely house trained to go outside to do their business. Ross is absolutely adorable and looks very much like a Bull Terrier mix. If we didn't have momma we would have thought he was a Bull Terrier mix- and his dad could have been we honestly don't know. But we don't think momma has Bull Terrier in her - she looks to be a kelpie mix. Ross is very smart and learns quickly. He is also very food motivated and really, really, really wants to trust people. He is such a sweet boy and follows us around to watch. When I weed the garden he drags them around to try and get Monica to chase him. He loves the grandkids and is just such a sweet gentle boy.  He is still fearful though and will run if they move to fast but overall if they sit quietly he loves to go to them for love. He will make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a special pup to help come out of his shell- this boy will definitely blossom once he learns to trust a new family as he has been meeting strangers and is excited for the attention.  Adoption fee waived - includes neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need. I was picked up as a stray by a local shelter when I was just a baby along with my mom and siblings. One of my siblings was adopted quickly. However, after several weeks me, my mom (Phoebe), and brother (Ross) ran out of time. We were put on the list as the shelter can not hold onto us forever. Luckily a staff member reached out to the rescues and begged for someone to take us in since were still babies. Everyone was full though so there were facing certain death the following day. Almost Home thought and thought about us - she could not get us out of her mind and the next day she reached out to the shelter to see if were still there. Luckily for us we were!!! The rescue lady showed up and Ross and I peed and pooed on her we were so scared- you see we would see people but they never actually had time to hold s and spend time with us so we were terrified. Well, she didn't give up she took us back to her house and promised us she would love us. She would sit in our run for hours talking to us and throwing treats to us but i was very skeptical and ran and ran from her. The only way she could get us back in the house was to leave the door open and corral us in. Then she would continue sitting in our little room with us!! Ross finally gave in and started letting her touch him but not me- humans are dangerous and mean and very scary so I kept my distance. Well now I realize that was quite silly of me and now I love the rescue lady and her grandkids who also sat with us for hours every time they came to visit. Kids are cute! I love my foster mom but she insists I need to find a home where I can be loved and spoiled so here we are. She thinks someone out there will show me how awesome people can be and how awesome it would be to have my own family with someone to love and spoil me. So far every time people have come to visit me though I hide and bark from the side of the house. I think I'm fine here I love the rescue lady but she insists there is a family out there that will give me more love and attention than even she does. One day maybe someone will give me a chance I jus hope they understand that though I love the rescue lady and will gladly play fetch and give her kisses and play with her hair it took us months to get to this point. I hope they understand that and love me anyway even knowing I will be scared of them for a long time. Rescue lady said we will do a foster to adopt trial first though to give me a better chance since she wants me to get the love an individual can provide. Please scroll down for the boring information about me the rescue lady said people might want to know.   Please be aware birthday and breeds listed are our best guesses based on looks - we seldom know this information unless they come in with registration papers. Approximate DOB 08/11/2022 Size - maybe 45 lbs - her mom is about 45 History- This little girl was picked up by animal control with her mom (Phoebe) and brother (Ross) running at large. At that time the puppies were about 8 weeks old and just following mom as she looked for food. They then spent about 3 months in the shelter with no interest. The shelter was packed with no open kennels and they were asking for help and sent out some photos of dogs who had been there the longest as they would be the ones put on the euthanasia list if one had to be made. We let them know we would take them and picked them up the next morning. Sadly the shelter is very small with few staff members and a bunch of dogs- which means that puppies don't really get the socialization they need at a shelter so they were pretty much feral when we got them. The day we picked them up they expressed their anal glands and were just running from us. Poor little Monica would run from us every chance she got and they hid under and behind their mom. They have now been with us over a year and have come a long way.  But will need patient homes with a focus on love helping them continue their journeys of being happy loved family members. Monica is still very fearful of strangers and will bark like a guard dog until someone tries to get close then she runs. She does go to her foster mom and the foster mom's grandkids for love and attention and will give kisses and play with toys with them but nobody else really.  Temperament- Monica is a super loving playful girl with the people she loves. However, she is terrified of change and new people. She is just one of those dogs that would love a life of just living in a house with a dog door and someone to love and play with her when she wants to. She is more like a cat really- she doesn't like leaving the house at all, doesn't like strangers, just wants to run and play with the other dogs and the people she loves. She does love all other dogs and puppies and welcomes new dogs with open paws but people she kind of draws the line at.  Energy Level- Pretty high energy pup. She should have another dog to play and run with and there would be a discount if er and Ross could stay together.  Dogs/Cats- Monica absolutely loves playing chase with the other dogs. Puppies seem drawn to them so always end up in their room with them to play. They are somewhat scared of the cats for who knows why but they are scared of them and will try and back into a corner or hide behind me if the cats come into where we are sitting.  Housetrained- She and Ross are both house trained, they do know how to use a dog door. Currently they hang out in the laundry room with a small baby gate and are let in and out throughout the day when they want to however I have had them out in the boarding kennel and they go in and out through the dog doors with no problem. Monica is absolutely adorable and is super super smart. She loves kids and trusts them more than adults. She is very food motivated and really, really, really wants to trust people but still keeps her distance with everyone but her foster. She loves pets and kisses from the people she trusts and loves but will bark at most strangers. I think she would absolutely blossom in her own home. She will make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a special pup to help come out of her shell- this pretty little girl will definitely blossom once she learns to trust her new family. She is house trained and doing great, knows here (as come), responds to a whistle if further away to come, and sits on command.. She is a lot more fearful than Ross though with change and new people so I am thinking that she would need a home with a smaller enclosed yard area with a dog door into the house initially so she can come in and out on her own out of the elements and someone who is extremely patient with time on their hands and the knowledge to continue working with her on building her trust. When they came in it took me a good 3-4 months just to get her to trust me enough to pet her without having to corner her. I spent many hours just laying in their run looking at my phone and not making contact with them except for giving them pieces of chicken to get them to come near me and more months just to get them to accept me moving around and coming to me when I called them and allowing me to play with and pet them and give them kisses. She is the more fearful of the two but when people walk by you can't tell she's a fearful dog and can be quite intimidating. But yea she will need a very special person/family that understands how long a feral dog takes to form new bonds. **Please keep in mind Monica and Ross were feral and will take time to gain their trust. They will not go up to strangers so when someone comes to meet them they will run and peek and bark. They would do best with someone who will give them time to acclimate and let them learn to trust them. Right now they are just bonded with their foster and the grandkids so that's what the photos show their sweet loving playful side once they trust and love you.  Adoption fee is waived with a foster to adopt agreement as we want to give Monica the best chance possible to get a happily ever after.  She is spay, has age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need. I was picked up as a stray by a local shelter with 3 adorable tiny babies. One of my babies quickly got adopted but nobody wanted me and my other two babies. After several weeks we ran out of time and a plea went out to save our lives. Nobody had room though and things were starting to look very bleak for me and my two pups. We were in a small cramped run so as not to take up space but the shelter staff knew we couldn't just live there forever. A staff member reached out to Almost Home with photos of us and begged them to make room as we were on the schedule for the next day. It was our last chance - rescue lady kept opening and closing the pictures she had no room but she couldn't get us out of her mind. She knew she had to find a way and contacted the shelter to see if we were still there. We were! She said she would pick us up in an hour if they could take us off the list. When she got there my puppies were terrified they had never rally been held in the time we were there so though I was extremely grateful and showed them how happy I was to be alive and get out of there my puppies didn't know how lucky we were. They peed and pooed all over the rescue lady as she them up I was so scared she would change her mind so I gave her kisses and wagged my tail and pulled and pulled on my leash to get us out. She put my babies in the crate and gagged all the way back to her house. I was so happy she didn't change her mind or leave my kids behind. So there is my story now about me. I am super sweet, well behaved, and very loving. I get along with all the other dogs and cats and ignore the cats and chickens. I love to play fetch but most of all I just love to be loved. I love hanging out on the dog beds watching tv or taking leisurely walks around the yard with my loved one. I've never had an accident in the home and I've never jumped on the grandchildren. Rescue lady says she just doesn't understand I am still homeless but she promises one day a family will come and give me a chance and I will be loved and spoiled forever- I can't wait for that day to come. Temperament- She is one of the sweetest girls ever. So happy and just loves attention. After being with s for a year she has learned that toys are super fun.  Energy Level- High energy - should have another dog to play and run with or a running partner. She seems to do better with males. Dogs/Cats- She has met the other dogs here and loves to play with Shadow and Ruger the best. She has seen the cats in the house and just ignores them. Housetrained- She is perfect. Has not had a single accident and is crate trained as well for when I have to leave. Phoebe is an absolute doll!! Just a perfect, sweet, gentle little girl. She can be quite the defender when shady people are on the ditch bank but has never shown aggression when meeting new people in the house or yard. She is very gentle with my 3 year old granddaughter and even lets her handle the leash without pulling her down. She has learned here (as come), responds to a whistle if further away to come, and sits on command. She is just an overall easy girl that would be a fantastic addition to any family wanting a sweet, athletic, loving girl.  Adoption fee $150 includes spay, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need. I was so scared out there and didn’t know where to find food – she looked so sad when she saw how skinny I was!! I tried to let her know it was ok I was just so happy to see someone – I jumped right into her truck and she took me home. It was the best day ever!! She took me to her house and gave me food and water- I couldn’t believe how hungry and thirsty I was she just kept petting me and telling me I was ok now. It was awesome then she gave me a blanket so I could sleep – I was soo tired. In the mesa there are wild dogs and coyotes I was too scared to sleep so I slept a long time. Anyhow enough of that bad stuff…. you should see me now I am gorgeous with a buff body and shiny coat. I still get super excited meeting new people and animals but I just want to play and live my best life and let everyone know life is to be celebrated. My favorite game ever is fetch!!! I also like to play tug though.. I just love toys!!! Recently I even got to meet giant dogs the rescue lady called horses. I really wanted to play but they wouldn’t chase me no matter how many play bows I did trying to tell them I wanted them to chase me – they were boring so I just explored instead. I know to be soft and gentle with the smaller kids- last summer we shared their toys and played in a little swimming pool together -- they were so much fun. One of the smaller ones dropped her toy into the pool so I hopped right in to get it for her since she got sad she couldn’t reach it and then she started laughing. It was so nice that I got to help a wee one just like when my foster mom helped me!! My foster mom has taken me to other states to visit and she says I am a great traveler and everyone comments on how smart and well behaved I am. I love car rides and adventure. My ideal family would love to take me hiking and going on adventures but then curling up on the couch to watch a good show or whatever they want to do I am game. I am pretty easy like that – I just go with the flow. My foster mom and the rescue lady say I am a perfect dog and they just don’t understand why nobody wants me but I believe my forever family is out there- we just need to find each other and when we do it will be amazingly awesome!!! Please scroll down for the boring information about me the rescue lady said people might want to know. Please be aware birthday and breeds listed are our best guesses based on looks and temperament Estimated DOB 10/1/2022 Size – she weighed in at 57 lbs History- This little girl was found in a mesa where she had been dumped. Everyone said she was scared, and she wouldn't let anyone near her however one of our friends who fosters a lot for us was able to pick her up. The original plan was to take her to a shelter but since they are all completely full and she felt bad dumping her off with the possibility of euthanasia she reported her to them and offered to hold her for the stray hold and look for her owner hoping she wasn't dumped. However, nobody was looking for her. So, we have agreed to try and find her a loving family who will not abandon her again..  Temperament- Super sweet, very smart, loves attention, and tries really hard to do what is expected of her. Has learned some basic commands and is just a really, really sweet girl. Energy Level- She is high energy so would do best with an active family and/or with a high energy dog. However, she would be fine as an only dog as well as long as she gets lots of exercise to tire her out. Dogs/Cats- Super playful with everyone she meets. Some dogs seem a bit intimidated with her eagerness so she would do best with a confident, playful dog that she can rough house with. She probably shouldn't be around cats.. Kids/People- Good with everyone she meets. Has met small children from 2-10 years old and is very gentle with them. She can be very rambunctious and loves to rough house though with adults or bigger teens. She barks a warning and looks intimidating when strangers approach the fence or door so if someone was thinking of breaking in they would think again not knowing if the dog on the other side of the door was friendly or not..   Commands/Obedience Level- Daisy knows some basic commands and is very well behaved overall she just gets super excited and has the zoomies sometimes. Daisy is accustomed to traveling in vehicles and makes a great traveling companion. Housetrained/Crate Trained- She is using a dog door with no accidents. She is also perfect in the crate. I was picked up as a stray by a local shelter when I was just a baby. Everyone told me I was super cute and my family would come looking for me but they never came and nobody adopted me. After 3 months of living in the shelter the staff was out of space and needed to make room and 'my time was up' luckily a staff member bought me some time and started reaching out to rescues explaining I was just a baby and needed some work on resource guarding (I held onto everything I got just in case I wouldn't get anything again). The lady from Almost Home said yes and that's when the fun began. I got to the rescue and they started introducing me to kids, dogs, cats, and toys. I had to learn to share and I learned how much fun toys with others are and that there are always treats and toys and kids are fun and so are small puppies. I love everything! I even love water- I swim in the horses tanks all the time because a beautiful girl like me loves to stay cool and keep my coat clean. Everyone says I am such an amazing girl and so pretty but nobody has given me a chance yet- rescue lady says one day my perfect family for me will show up and I will be spoiled. I would love to meet you though if you are a man we will need a woman or child as a buffer as men can be scary to me. But I do love everyone I just get shy rescue lady thinks maybe a man was mean to me at some point when I was a baby but I do try and I loved the worker men at the shelter when I was there. I just need some time to understand they won't hurt me. I'm not mean I just run away from men. But women and children I am a true lap dog in every sense of the word. I love hugs and kisses from them and will try to make myself small so I can cuddle in their laps.  Please scroll down for the boring information about me the rescue lady said people might want to know. Please be aware birthday and breeds listed are our best guesses based on looks - we seldom know this information unless they come in with registration papers. Approximate DOB 2/1/2023 Approximate Adult Size - Medium maybe 40 lbs or so once full grown  History- This young girl ended up at a local shelter early July and lived there until transferred to us in September.  It appears staff and volunteers spent a lot of time with her however, she was labeled as special no kids under 12 and a meet and greet as she was possibly aggressive with other animals. This is could be part of the reason she was never adopted. Anyhow, we went to meet her and she was lovely and was transferred to our program. She has been here about a month and is just a fantastic girl!!!She is gentle with small children, scared of cats, a little possessive of food and toys but is learning to share and is just such a little lovebug who loves to lay on your lap and gives the best hugs. Temperament- Super sweet, very smart, loves attention, and tries really hard to do what is expected of her. She is hesitant with new experiences but with some coaxing is learning to trust that we won't put her in harms way. She was very fearful of going into new places however she is now coming in the house on her own and slowly starting to explore but will still hide behind me when she gets scared- like when the cats come into where she is for instance or when we turn on the fan. Everything is new to her but she is taking it in stride and doing amazing. **Willow may have had a bad experience with a man at some point as she is scared of men when a woman isn't around.  Energy Level- She is higher energy than some dogs but not nutty high energy she just gets the zoomies and enjoys exploring the yard and running and playing like any puppy does. She would do best with an active family. A mid size active dog would also be good for her to play with however if the dog is to rambunctious and too high energy she will hide to get away.    Dogs/Cats- Scared of cats but slowly trying to figure them out from behind me. She currently spends a lot of her time with a mellow adult German Shepherd, Lilly another husky in our program, and Tug a Chihuahua in our program and she does great with all of them. She is very respectful and learning to be a dog with other dogs.  Housetrained- She is using a dog door and not having any accidents.  Vegas is an absolute doll. She absolutely loves, loves, loves attention and seeks her person for comfort. She is awesome with kids - my grandkids love playing with her as she is very gentle and doesn't knock anyone down. She would just be an amazing dog for any home. She does bristle and get very intense when meeting new dogs but won't actually do anything - I think it is more due to fear of not knowing if they are going to attack her or not but she is very playful and once she knows they are not going to try and kill her she starts playing. She has met quite a few dogs since coming in and has done great with all of them. She has also met lots of people and just loves everyone. Though we did find out recently that she would do best in a home with women and children and/or a very patient man that can spend a lot of time gaining her trust through a woman.  I know huskies have a bad rap about being loud and being escape artists - she is a very quiet husky and she has never tried to leave the property but as with most dogs if a gate is left open she will run off to play as she has never been trained to not leave a fence when given the opportunity. If I have to run inside real quick for something and forget to leave the door open or if I close it she will wait for me on the front porch until I come back out. She is just an amazing dog who would do great in an active home or home with children. She would excel in a family who won't mind introducing a young girl to new experiences in life. Since she lived in a shelter half her life she really hasn't had the experiences most dogs her age have had. She takes them well and tries her best but she would surely benefit from someone who can take her on new adventures to learn what being a loved dog is truly about. She isn't bad with new experiences - she just hesitates and you can see she is unsure of the situation for instance her introduction to the cats was so cute I had to put it on Facebook https://fb.watch/nYNqGiVf9g/ Adoption fee $250 includes spay, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies, collar and leash, training information, and all the support you need.
