Story
Merry is around 10 years old and was my mom’s cat and I took her after bringing her to a shelter to get her help and a diagnosis of diabetes. I took Merry from the shelter but knew that I could only keep temporarily because my mom wanted her back. Due to certain circumstances my mom or me can keep Merry and want her to have the best home possible. Merry is still diabetic but no longer needs her insulin. She is on an only wet food diet. She’s up to date on shots, microchipped, and spayed. She’s loves pets and cuddles.

Story
Meet Spice! He is a shy boy who is going to need someone with patience and love to let him open up at his own pace. His previous owners describe him as friendly, affectionate, and always hungry. He has experience with other cats but no dog or children were in his previous home. Spice now is hanging out in foster waiting for his next home! He is doing fantastic and is much more relaxed now that he is in a home again. He's loves lounging on his special office chair and hanging out with his foster parents in the living room. Spice is a chill cat looking for the right person, maybe it is you? Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully. If you're ready to adopt now: Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) You can also: Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet, to adopt sight unseen or to place a 24 hour hold on a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours. All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.

Story
If you're a soft touch when it comes to orange kitties, then today could be your lucky day! Lucky came to Dakin as a stray with his buddy Charm. The person who brought them here told us that these two kitties were found together in the hallway of her apartment building. She checked with the neighbors, but no one claimed these cuties. Most likely they were left behind when someone moved away. Now Lucky is looking for a place to park his cute little paws. Maybe it's your place! And if you're thinking about adopting another kitty, Lucky and Charm would make one dynamic duo! Story
Meet Nala Moon! Described as a certified couch potato, she spends her days loafed up on her favorite blanket by the window, watching the world go by—especially the birds! After relaxing, she is all about play and loves wand toys with feathers! At night, she’ll happily lay in bed with you, keeping you company without being overly clingy. While she loves head pets, she prefers them in moderation—she’ll let you know with a little hiss if you overdo it. She likes to be near you but isn’t a big cuddle bug, making her perfect for someone who appreciates a more independent yet affectionate companion. Nala Moon does better with older children who understand her boundaries and has lived well with another cat, Silas, who is also up for adoption. If you’re looking for a chill companion who enjoys the simple pleasures of life, Nala Moon might be the perfect match. Sassy cats are usually confident, intelligent and active. They often don’t like to be held, or have places on their bodies that they prefer not to be touched. When handled or petted in ways they do not prefer, they are likely to swat, nip or bite. They will be happiest in adult only homes or those with older kids who understand cats that have rules and will leave them alone. If they are bored then they may get into trouble and often need extra playtime in order to be their best selves. Sassy cats will go home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for EVERYONE in the home to be happy. Typically, sassy cats are not for first-time cat owners. Check out the video included to learn more from our friend Jackson Galaxy about living peacefully with sassy cats!
