Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I'm Duchess! I'm a smart and resourceful kitty who's settling into the indoor life beautifully. I love having a cozy spot to call my own, tasty food to enjoy, and a warm bed to snuggle in. My favorite time of day is when my foster mom sits on the floor to pet me—I’ll even rub against her leg to ask for more attention! I’m a fan of scratching posts and always use my litterbox like the well-mannered lady I am. While I’m still learning to trust new people and can be a little shy at first, I’m sure to blossom with patience and a calm environment. I’m not a big fan of being picked up, but maybe that will change over time as I continue to build my confidence. I’d love to have another cat friend in my forever home—they help me feel more secure and show me the ropes. I haven’t met kids yet, so I’d probably do best in a quieter home where I can adjust at my own pace. If you think we’d be a good match, I’d love to meet you! Fill out an application, and let’s see if I could be your perfect companion. Duchess is from local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Harry & Harriet – A Pair of Shy, Sweet Siblings Harry and Harriet are a dynamic duo of 1-year-old siblings who joined the rescue as strays, and they're looking for a home where they can blossom at their own pace. These two are still warming up to the world around them, especially with new people, and often prefer to hide when there are strangers in the house. But once they feel safe, their unique personalities shine through. Harriet is an independent spirit who loves her routine, especially when it comes to mealtime. She’s a fan of wet food and can get a bit impatient when it's not served fast enough—don’t let her shyness fool you; she knows what she wants! Harriet enjoys her space but will definitely show you affection once she’s comfortable with you. Harry, on the other hand, is a cuddle lover! He’s often found cozying up on his human’s lap at the most unexpected times, like during a quiet bathroom break. Harry has a quirky love for drinking water straight from the bathroom faucet, and he’s always up for snuggling in bed. While he prefers kibble over wet food, he’s just as sweet as can be. Harry will let you know when he’s had enough of petting with a gentle swat or a love bite, but it’s all part of his charm! Harry and Harriet are currently living in a home with several other cats and two small dogs, and while they may be a bit shy at first, they are friendly with their furry companions. With patience and love, these two sweethearts are sure to grow into the affectionate companions you’ve been looking for. If you’re looking for a pair of cats who will make you smile with their quirky behaviors and sweet moments, Harry and Harriet might be just the right fit for you!       Meet Harry, the shy yet sweet silver tabby who’s making great strides toward becoming the loving companion he was always meant to be! Harry has come a long way since his days as a stray. Though he's still a bit cautious around new faces, Harry is slowly learning to trust and is becoming more confident in his foster home. He’s now been given full access to the house and has found comfort in following his foster mom around as she does her morning chores, like tending to the litter boxes. He’s even learned to curl up on the bed — that is, when the dog lets him! With his soft silver-gray fur, a little sprinkle of white on his belly and paws, and those big, curious eyes, Harry is an endearing and quiet kitty. He enjoys the simple pleasures in life, like playing with the resident cats and discovering new spots to explore. While he’s still shy around strangers and will often disappear when new people arrive, Harry’s progress with his foster mom has been wonderful. He’s starting to enjoy the gentle touch of a pet and can often be found snuggled up under the blankets, soaking in the warmth and comfort of his safe space. Harry is a curious soul who thrives in quieter environments. With a little patience and plenty of love, he’ll continue to grow and blossom into a loyal and affectionate companion. If you have a cozy corner and a tender heart to offer, Harry might just be the perfect addition to your family. Ready to give him the time and space he needs to truly flourish? Harry is waiting for a home to call his own!     If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Fred! Fred is a handsome young cat who is still discovering the joys of love and companionship. While he’s naturally timid, Fred is beginning to show his sweet side as he slowly warms up to the world around him. Fred thrives in a calm, quiet home with patient humans who can help him feel safe. He’ll need a confident feline friend to guide him and show him the ropes of indoor life.  Fred is currently taking medication to help with anxiety, and with time and care, his confidence is growing. If you can offer Fred the loving, supportive home he needs, he will reward you with his gentle, loving presence. Fred is from a stray surrender with one sibling. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 10, 2025, 12:35 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi there! My name is Kricket. I’m a super affectionate and sweet girl. My absolute favorite thing to do is make biscuits on your lap. I just love attention! I also love to run around and play. I like to spend my day cuddling, watching out the window, and napping. I have the best personality and I’m looking for someone to spend the rest of my life with. One thing you should know about me is that I have been diagnosed with Feline Calicivirus. This is a viral disease common in large unvaccinated groups of cats. Calicivirus affects a cat's immune system and can cause upper respiratory infections and oral infections. Due to this, I will need to be adopted into a home without other kitties. Don't let my cute face fool you, I am an independent lady. I don't need anyone but feline friends. Ok so maybe I kinda might like you a little when your dishing out that canned food, brushing me, but that is it! And maybe I might like you if you have a toy mouse for me or if you are holding that thing that controls the red dot. But only then! I may also like you a little if you just happen to have some catnip but then I draw the line. If you think you can handle that then maybe just maybe someday we could be great friends but for now I need someone who can be understanding and patient. Humans weren't always so great to me. It's not my fault. I still deserve a chance. I personally think any human would be lucky to have a kitty as cute as me but I may be a bit bias ;) Date of birth (estimated): 12/6/18 Good with Dogs: Unknown Good with Cats: Yes House Trained: Yes Adoption Fee: $90 Submit an application at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FEHR/Cat I live at the Sanctuary. Hi! My name is Olivia. I am a sweet, snuggly, little girl who loves to love. I didn't get treated the best early in life. Because of this I had to have all my teeth removed. It's no so bad since I get to eat all canned food now. Yum! I get along with other kitty friends, but I absolutely love people. I would love to have a home where people have the time to give me affection and don't mind if I sit on their lap. I have times where I am independent but I do really love affection. If you think I might be the right fit for you fill out an adoption application and maybe we can meet! Adoption Fee $140 Apply Online: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FEHR/Cat *Olivia does have reactions to vaccines so her new family will need to be prepared to make sure their vet is aware, and can give preventative medications before any new vaccines*

Story
Hi! My name is Laverne. I am soft as a bunny but also as shy as one. I take quite awhile to warm up to new people but once I do, everyone says I am so funny. I will talk ever so softly to get your attention at which point I expect should rubs. yes shoulder rubs. I might stay awhile but then I will scamper away. My return will likely be food dependent. I really do need to have another cat friend as I tend to enjoy a confident feline companion. I didn't have the best start in life but I am ready for someone to pick me and show me what a good life in a real home could be like. Hi! My name is Stacy! I arrived at the sanctuary with my eye poked out and huge claw marks on my back. Everyone has been so nice to me and has taken really good care of me. During my time here I also had to have a lot of my teeth removed which everyone seems to not mind since I sometimes enjoy munching on your fingers. I get along with other kitty friends great and dogs don't really scare me. I love being picked up and carried around once in awhile. Being loved is the best!
