Story
Carlisle is in desperate need of a foster or adopter ASAP! Miracle dog and Stanislaus Survivor Carlisle is ready to be adopted. Carlisle sat in the shelter for over 2 weeks with no one willing to help him because his injury was pretty severe and expensive to fix. He fractured his L7 vertebrae. We think he is about 2 years old. We found the most skilled Neurosurgeon at VCA Referral Center and found a medical donor willing to take a chance on the surgery. There was no guarantee it would work, but Carlisle had such a will to live, we knew had to try. The Surgeon did not give up either and he decided to make it happen. So we pulled the boy and off he went to VCA for a $12,000 plus surgery. Carlisle has made a full and complete recovery! It is a true miracle. He has been in two foster homes and his current foster home can only keep him until the end of May. He should be an only dog for now. He is still intact, but his neuter will be done while in foster care, if adopted ( foster to adopt) or as soon as we can get him in for the surgery. Carlisle is great with kids and people. He is good on leash. He is not the best with other animals, seems to have a prey drive, so no small dogs or cats or farm animals. Female dogs his size or larger should be fine, but we will demand slow intros. He is so deserving of a home and we need a foster or an adopter for him ASAP! Interested in meeting Carlisle? Story
Bella is a 65 pounds German Shepard mix. She is 7 years old. She has EPI which is well managed with pancreatic enzymes added to her food. She is a calm and stoic dog. As she has gotten older she has gotten anxious around my 5 year old. She isn’t as patient as she used to be and has snapped and growled at him a couple times. She adores my teenager, but we are concerned about her interaction with our younger child. She is great with dogs her own age, but doesn’t like the chaos of puppies. She is a sweet girl who needs a calmer home where she can be relaxed and enjoy her later years. A home with older teenagers or perhaps no kids would be great for her.

Story
Belle of the Ball? Or perhaps, "Bella! The Ball!"Bella recently charmed everyone on a trip to a volunteer's home. She hopped into the car with ease and showed impeccable manners, even when french fries were on offer. At home, Bella explored the backyard, made a quick pit stop, and then toured the house, settling in quickly. She adapted seamlessly to the family's rhythm. The highlight of Bella's day? Tennis ball fetch! She eagerly awaited each throw, staying close and ready for more. While her human companion worked on the computer, Bella patiently waited with a tennis ball, ever ready to play. Bella loves carrying a tennis ball or soft toy during walks, prancing proudly with her prize. However, she is required to be the only dog in her new home and is still learning to share her favorite toys, so any children should be 10 or older. Our Behavior Team will provide a consult to discuss her individual needs.Ready to make Bella your one-and-only? She's ready to bring joy and fetch games to her forever home!Monthly Promotion AppliesAdoption Price: $150

Story
Meet Azula, your true blue companion! She loves car trips, hamburgers (but not fries!), and cuddling with a toy on the couch. Azula's perfect for drives or welcoming you home with a wagging tail. As with many of this active and intelligent breed, keeping both her mind and body busy can be the key to a successful life together. Azula likes to play tug with her leash and is still learning how to share her favorite treats. Because of this, we recommend that any children in her new home are age 10 or older. She is selective of the other dogs she shares her space with so we will be providing a dog introduction to potential adopters who already have a canine companion at home.Adoption Price: $200Monthly Promotion Applies.

Story
Nyjah went for a sleepover with two of our foster volunteers, and that was all it took to see what a fun, active, sweet, affectionate, and playful companion he is. Nyjah enjoyed morning neighborhood walks with three female dogs and their people. He has a video of his sleepover; click on the blue "play" below his photos to see how great he did. He loved riding in the car with the window halfway down so he could stick his nose out. He is a medium-energy dog with polite indoor manners. He loves belly rubs, playing fetch, giving soft kisses, and visiting the neighbors. He was an outdoor dog in his previous home and was initially anxious about being indoors at our volunteers' home; he paced a lot and frequently went to the back door to be let out to explore the backyard. He was more relaxed the very next day. With patience and access to an enclosed backyard, he could become an indoor and outdoor dog. He was calm and relaxed at bath time in the walk-in shower and was very patient with the brushing of his coat after he dried off. He knows his basic obedience, including sit, down, and wait. He previously lived with three cats, a small female dog, and a large female dog, and got along with all of them. He is recommended for kids age 10 and older. He has a history of predatory behavior with birds and chickens, so we are requiring that there be no livestock like chickens or other fowl in his new home. He is selective of the other dogs that he shares his space with, so we will be providing dog introductions to potential adopters who already have a canine companion at home.Nyjah has a video; please click on the blue "play" below his photos.Adoption Price: $200*Monthly Promotion Applies
