Story
Stella is a loving and loyal dog with a protective nature. While she’s not aggressive, her protective instincts can sometimes lead to what we call "resource guarding." In the past, she’s been cautious when she feels uncomfortable with certain actions from people near her. While she has had some mouthy moments in the past, we’re confident that with the right guidance and training, she’ll thrive in a loving, patient home. Stella would do best in a home without small children or other pets, but if you already have a furry friend, we’d recommend a slow introduction and several meet-and-greets to ensure a good fit. Stella is an active and playful girl who loves her daily walks, tug-of-war games, and a good game of fetch. She has an abundance of energy and would be the perfect companion for someone who’s ready to give her the attention and structure she needs to flourish. Her adoption fee covers her spay, vaccinations, microchip, and other necessary treatments. If you’re looking for a devoted and loving dog who will be a loyal companion for years to come, Stella might just be the perfect fit for your family!

Story
- A silly, goofy guy with the cutest floppy ears - Curious, likes to explore and sniff new places and things - Love treats - Knows sit, stay and shake - Prefers to explore and do his own thing here in the shelter, but will likely open up more once he's in a home environment and has had time to decompress - Enjoys spending time with dogs who have a similar play style - Had a femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO) done on his right hip due to a previous injury (more info at ARL) All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Weight: 73.5 Age: 1yrs 8mths 2wks

HOW TO ADOPT: This pet is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this pet, please email fosterinquiry@arl-iowa.org.---- Sweetheart of a dog who loves to cuddle and be next to her people; loves to sleep with her foster family at night - Tennis balls seem to be her favorite toys, but she also loves chew toys and dental chews - Knows sit and down and seems very trainable; does OK on a leash but tends to pull right now, especially when she sees other animals, so she may do best with a harness and a sturdy leash - Has been great with potty training in her foster home; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new schedule- Has done great with crate training- Has done well with people visiting her foster home; may bark at first wanting to meet them, but once she has interacted she's fine and likes attention- Has done well with children, even smaller ones, but she sometimes can forget to watch out for those around her when she's excited, so she may do best with kids who are big enough to be OK with that - Tends to be socially awkward with other dogs and would likely prefer to be the only dog in her new home, but may do well with dogs who have a similar personality and play style to hers (dog intro required) All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs.
