Story
Greetings, mortals! I am Aries, a majestic male dog with a powerful spirit that rivals the might of the gods themselves. My lineage is a fusion of strength and courage, much like the mythical Greek warriors of old. As a German Shepherd mix, I bear the mantle of both protector and loyal companion, ready to embark on epic adventures by your side. Behold, my most distinctive feature: my big, floppy ears that listen keenly to the whispers of the wind and the secrets of the world around me. They stand as a testament to my unwavering vigilance, always attuned to the slightest rustle or sign of danger. Like the fiery ram that represents my namesake constellation, I possess boundless energy and a fiery spirit. With every step I take, I channel the might of the heavens, exuding the strength and grace befitting of a true Greek hero. My paws tread the earth with purpose, and my heart beats with the fervor of an ancient battle cry. But fear not, for beneath my divine exterior lies a heart overflowing with affection. I am not just a warrior; I am a loyal and loving companion. Together, we shall conquer every challenge and forge an unbreakable bond that even the gods would envy. So, dear mortal, if you seek a canine ally who embodies the essence of a Greek legend, look no further. I, Aries, the German Shepherd mix with big floppy ears, am here to join you on a quest of a lifetime. Let us create a mythic tale of companionship and courage that will be sung by bards for generations to come. Story
Calista is a beautiful, crazy, playful, rambunctious 2 year old German Shepherd. Found out in the woods in Rio Grande Valley with her mom and sister fending for themselves and trying to survive the coyotes. She was very skittish when she arrived at the rescue, and at times can still be, but she has come a long way. She gets excited and does a crazy spin in her excitement. She loves playing with other dogs, loves treats and playing with her foster siblings. She really needs a patient person who knows the breed and is willing to work with her and have the dedication to wait until she shows her very silly side :) Her foster mom has learned her secret- treats and smelling like hot dogs/ peanut butter helps! Calista loves other dogs and gets along great with her foster homes pack. She is playful and energetic with them. Sometimes maybe too energetic as she can be an escape artist and find even the smallest of holes in the fence to see if she can fit and make a b-line to the neighbors house! Calista will need to stay local to Texas for the time being. Each day she is gaining confidence and understanding and realizing that people are not all mean and that there ares some out there that really do love dogs and want nothing but goodness for them. If you think you are ready to give Calista love, attention and help her build trust and confidence in herself and you then please apply! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX only)

Story
Mesa! Mesa is a 1.5 yo Shepherd mix with a sleek, glossy black coat, white blaze on her chest & white tips to her tail & feet. Mesa is shy at first, but comes out of her shell to be a charming dog who likes ear rubs & sweet talk. She does well with all dogs, but would do best with a confident canine companion in her “furever” home. She has the leaping abilities of a gazelle, easily & gracefully clearing 4+ ft gates from a standstill when on her daily mission to gobble up the kitty kibble remnants (her guilty pleasure). She has come such a long way from the skinny, wormy puppy she was when she first came to the rescue and is more than ready for a home of her own💕 Attributes: Dog friendly, would do best with confident canine companion in Needs at least 6 ft fence - can leap like a gazelle Older children only-startles at sudden moves Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Tempe! Tempe and her siblings came to us in very rough shape, skinny little babies who needed a kind and understanding heart to show them that not all people are bad. Through lots of love and care (and plenty of kibble!) We were able to get all of her litter back into good shape, happy, and growing. Tempe herself is a great dog: very loving, friendly and energetic. She gets along well with people, children and other dogs. Could probably use some more exposure with cats. She's a water dog! She loves playing and drinking water, but she drinks on her own terms. Tempe has done really well at our local adoption events but is still looking for her forever family! Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $500 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

COURTESY POST * This animal is not physically in LTR care, they continue to live with the owner. * The adoption/application process is the same for these dogs as any other dog in our rescue. * LTR has not evaluated this pet. * All personality information is provided by the owner and is assumed to be honest and accurate. * The adoption fee/donation for helping rehome the pet is the same as LTR establishes fees. Enzo is a very sweet and loyal dog. He wants to be protective of his family which can be a challenge with young children he doesn't know. He has never bitten a human. Enzo loves to play fetch with balls, swim and walk in the woods. He would make a great companion for someone who is familiar with dogs and is in a quiet adult only household. We are making the difficult decision to rehome our sweet dog Enzo. Enzo is an all-white, 100lb, 2-year-old German Shepherd/Lab mix. His DNA results show he is 50% German Shepherd, 25% lab and 25% border collie. We adopted Enzo from a rescue at a farm in Mississippi when he was four months old. He is an incredibly loyal dog who likes to work. He has been in pack dog training since we adopted him and is always around dogs. Since Enzo was a puppy, we have been working with two different trainers, including behavioral training. He is very smart and good at his commands. Still, Enzo is very protective of his humans, which can be problematic in a neighborhood environment where many unknown kids and other animals are coming and going. Enzo loves running, digging, chasing, chewing on balls, and swimming. Enzo is in his element while in the woods and following new scents. His perfect home is one where he has ample outdoor space to run and explore in. Enzo is up to date with his vaccinations and neutered.

Story
Ritz knows the name Scout. He is a 6.5 years old German Shepherd mix (possibly with border collie as he is smart and focused). He is medium large sized and weighs about 50-60 pounds. He is perfectly house trained and he is crated trained to go in happily for a treat. He knows many commands like sit, down, paw (BOTH feet), spin, and roll over.  Scout needs a home where he gets to be the only dog living there but will be sure to fill your days with tricks, antics, and LOVE if you adopt him. He does fine encountering dogs on walks (even if they are losing their minds barking at him he stays cool as a cucumber), just prefers not to live with them and have to share the attention. He would do best with older kids who can respect his signals and who aren't as noisy as young kids can be. He has told my elementary aged kids they were being too loud and tried to herd them out of the room with barking and body pressure more than once now while he was trying to nap and they woke him.January 18, 2025, 5:49 pm

Story
Like her namesake, Holly Golightly is a stunning beauty!! She has silky soft black fur with the legs of a Rottweiler and her eyes are simply gorgeous! The shelter that Holly came from estimated her to be 5 months old but after talking to the vet, we believe she is closer to 7/8 months old. Either way, she is such a good girl! She has done extremely well with potty training and keeping her crate clean - even on the days that foster mom has to go into the office for 8 hours. Holly has been great with all of the dogs in the home. We have both males and females ranging in 10-80 pounds. She wants to play with everyone and be their best friend! With that said, she may have just a bit too much puppy energy for the older pups. And while she is good with the resident cat, she wants to play with him too. So, a dog savvy cat would be best. I would classify her as medium to high energy when it comes to playtime but she is also very good about settling down and curling up with you for a nap or bedtime. She is working on crate training - meaning she only goes into the crate when it’s feeding time or a treat is involved. Other times, she has to be nudged into the crate as she still has some light puppy chewing tendencies. She is also working on leash walking and doing well. Now would be the perfect time to set her up for success and enroll her in basic obedience training. She is such a sweet and loving girl that she would make a great addition to any family!! Apply today!! January 18, 2025, 7:39 pm

Story
The warrior princess Xena is a beautiful, 5 year old Shepard mix. She is friendly with people and male dogs that are larger in size. (Unsure about female dogs) She knows basic commands and is very low energy. She likes to hangout where the family is and cuddling is her favorite! Shes great with kids and has been around kids of all ages. She is fearful of SOME men due to her abuse history and so introductions to adult men should be done slowly. Xena would do best in a home as an only pet but could be homed with a larger male dog. No cats for Xena. She is housebroken and crate trained. Adoption fee includes all vaccines up to date, spay/neuter and microchip.

Story
Trinity is a very sweet dog that loves to play. I adopted here as a second dog due to the fact that she was listed as getting along with other dogs. She is a domineering dog (alpha female)and she bullies my senior male German Shepherd. She needs to be the only pet in the home. Great with people, not with other dogs. I thought if I gave it time it would get better but it hasn’t.

Story
Do you need this sweet face in your life? BIRDIE is ready to be your bestie! Birdie is a sweet mixed breed adult dog looking for a home. She's an absolutely delightful, friendly girl, about 7 years old and 55 pounds. Birdie loves everyone she meets. She's dog friendly and fine with cats but she absolutely loves to be with people. She's a perfect low/medium energy girl, perfect for someone who is looking for a companion. Birdie is housebroken, crate trained, walks well on a leash. and just loves meeting new friends. Our best guess at breed mix is some German Shepherd, some Australian Shepherd and probably multiple other breeds. Her coat is a bit rough right now thanks to fleas and poor nutrition. We've addressed both issues and Birdie's medium-length coat should recover soon! If you'd like to meet Birdie, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Birdie at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 21, 2024, 9:27 am

Blitz…or as we call her …Blitz-a-rooni is the total package. She was found on the streets in horrific shape …mange and secondary skin infections which actually left her unidentifiable as a breed…one in a home and understanding no one was going to hurt her she quickly flourished. The beautiful part of the mange is meds and quality nutrition healed her physically in no time…almost to where she doesn’t even look like the same dog…then she learned the ins and outs of a home and sharing life with other 2 legged and 4 legged…she figured out fluffy blankets right away and determined they were a definite requirement in her home…LOL She had resource guarding of her food which was not real issue as we feed our dogs in crate …but she also does very well with getting treats etc or even the shared ice cube in our home. I don’t blame her for being a little selfish when it comes to food..as it was evident she had to be protective to survive. She has turned out to be a definite chug butt ..solid and smaller in stature she is a briick of love. We have 3 Malinois and my husband kept saying she looks mal and I did not agree lol so we did a DNA and I’ll be darned if she isn’t 50 percent Belgian Malinois…What I see in this is a smart girl…but without the anxiety of the mal breed…which is a huge blessing I feel like she is the bestt of all her breeds …lol..she is fabulous in crate…I simply tell her to go to her room and she doesn’t make a peep. She is a bit of a Velcro dog and just wants to be with her person. She is easy on leash and would be amazing to work and train. Her activity level is moderate and she gets definite zoomies…does great with all my dogs but is best with dogs her size or larger. Her prey drive for smaller is intact. She loves kids but I always recommend with the power and intelligence older kids. She has definitely found her diva side…loving all things soft, blankets, rugs, towels, all things stuffy toys and if you are close by she will snuggle right in. The only thing she doesn’t like is when in crate and you are a stranger and you stare at her…but out of crate loves with all her chunkiness. Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $500 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)
