Story
Laiko is a gorgeous 5-year-old (estimated), 78-pound, Black and Tan, male German Shepherd who was saved from a high kill Los Angeles shelter. He's a distinguished gentleman with a kind soul. He is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, house broken, and crate trained. Laiko is initially on the serious side and prefers that you respect his boundaries when he first meets you. Once he trusts you, his loving, playful side comes out. If you get too close, you will get a kiss. He will roll over and allow you to give him belly rubs. He loves playing ball, but he does not like to give it back. He spent two weeks with the professional trainer, so he has had a good refresher on his training on basic commands and loose leash walking. He is good with people (once he trusts you), dogs and cats (cat neutral). Children are unknown so caution should be used. No small children for Laiko as they do not understand personal boundaries. No bite history.

Story
🚨 Calling all active families! 🚨 Meet Misha, a 3-year-old, 70-pound black German Shepherd who’s as smart as she is stunning. This playful, eager-to-please girl is always up for a game of fetch, a good run in the yard, or some quality time with her favorite people and pup friends. 🏃‍♂️🐾 Misha is a social butterfly—she adores humans, dogs, and even cats! Just a heads-up: she gets very excited to meet new friends and might greet them with some enthusiastic chatter. But once she’s said hello, she’s all about being sweet and submissive. While she doesn’t need another dog in the home, she’d love a furry playmate to match her energy. That said, Misha isn’t all go-go-go—she’s perfectly happy lounging around between adventures. 💊 Important Medical Info: Misha has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) and Atypical Addison’s Disease, meaning she requires daily medication and a strict feeding regimen (no sneaky treats!). Her EPI treatment can be costly, so she needs a family ready to manage her care long-term. 🐕 The perfect home for Misha? ✔️ An active family with a fenced yard ✔️ A commitment to her medical needs ✔️ Bonus points if there’s a playful dog sibling! Misha is ready to bring love, fun, and loyalty into the right home. Could that be you? Watch her in action here! 🎥 https://youtu.be/593gZO2Gyso Age: 2-3 years Weight: 70 lbs. Vetting: Up-to-date on vaccines, spayed and heartworm negative; pleaase note medical care requirements above Temperament: Great with everyone, loves dogs, great with kids; ok with cats Training: House trained but needs bathroom breaks every 4-6 hrs due to her medical conditions. For questions, please email ali.mentana@gmail.com To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an Adoption Application (www.bit.ly/DH-Adoption) for caretakers to review. Once your application is approved, we will bring the adoptable pet to your home for a preliminary visit.

Story
Meet Allie! Our vet estimates her to be 8yrs old and she has been spayed. Allie weighs about 50lbs.  We wanted the vet to check her right eye since it presents somewhat smaller than the left eye. The vet agreed that it was most likely trauma from goodness knows how long ago. Upon testing, she does have limited sight in that eye but nothing that really effects her.  She has gone through and recovered from much needed FHO surgery since she had some old trauma to her right rear leg as well as treatment for Lyme.  She absolutely adores attention from people so we think she didn't have much in her past :( She walks fine on a leash and is housetrained. Occasionally you'll see her with a toy but it's not a standard thing for her. The foster she is with is certain that right now, she is the most grateful dog in the house - her sighs of contentment while getting a belly rub for no reason says it all.  While she currently lives with other dogs in fostercare, it took us months for her to accept and trust them. But with slow & steady crate rotations, introductions & limited interactions, she has become part of the pack.  She should not be in a home with cats though is our gut feeling.  Check out our site for an application to make Allie a part of your family and FaceBook for adoption event details. (www.endingthesadness.org) Our adoption fee is $325 and all of our pets come with full vet records. All animals are up to date on vaccinations & dewormed. Please keep in mind we are a Rescue Group and most of our pups come to us with little or no background info regarding breed, eventual size, age or prior health issues. We rely on the expertise of our veterinarians and make estimates based on past experience. Also, when you're adopting from a Rescue, you should ask questions! You should always get shot/medication records and the rescue should have had the dog for a bit of time to check for disease. Take the time to educate yourself before adopting. A reputable rescue will have nothing to hide and will answer ALL your questions!!! Please visit our Web Site to see all of the pets we have for adoption. Our site contains information about our adoption process and fees, our application, and answers to frequently asked questions. Please read it carefully before contacting us. If you are interested in adopting THIS wonderful pet, we strongly encourage you to complete our adoption application now. Once we receive and approve your application, we will notify you of approval. The first application to be received and approved will get 1st choice - be sure that your references are available and willing to speak with us. Thank You Visit us at one of our next adoption days. Details are on our site under the How to Adopt tab. Hope to see you there!October 13, 2024, 12:21 am

NOTE:  If you see this post, we are still taking applications.  If interested, please visit our site directly rather than going thru a search engine like PetFinder to show interest or fill out an app - they are not affiliated with us, we just post there and many other places. Hey y'all!  My name is Lager - nice to meet ya!  I come from the great state of KY, but being in rural NJ is a lot like where I was born on 5/24/2022 - I'm still just a youngster.  I can't even imagine city life & think it would be too scary for me.  My fostermom says I live thru my belly - there's no shame in liking food & treats in my book.  Heck, I'll figure out how to do just about anything for a reward!  I'm told that I'm goofy in a good way (whatever that means), but my fostermom always seems to be laughing at my shenanigans.  The fosterhome I live in has other dogs and a fenced yard and there are tons of toys to chew on 'cause I still like to do that too.  My leash training is limited, but I've been told that there may be treats involved in learning about it so sign me up!  If you talk to me I look & listen with a head tilt, but I gotta be honest I haven't mastered all the words other than my name, go potty, put that down & good boy.  In general, I've been told that I'm the strong, silent type of pup and I'm fairly laid back for my age.  Are you my furever home? He needs training at this point so if you are interested in making him a part of your home and have the time & patience to teach him how to be the perfect companion, visit our site (endingthesadness.org) to submit an application to be considered. REQUIREMENTS:  Adopters must be within 2hrs driving distance, have recent dog experience, no young children please, and are home more often than not.October 13, 2024, 12:21 am

Story
Misha is a very smart and playful dog. While she does not require a canine companion, she would do best in a home with another dog that she can play with/direct some of her energy at. She loves everyone she meets (human, dog, cat) but can get very overeager to say hello (read: she gets very vocal) which some other animals can find off-putting; however, once she is able to say hello, she calms down quickly and is very submissive with new friends. She is eager to please and picks up on training very quickly. Misha would do best with an active family with a good fenced yard for playing fetch in. While she is a high-energy dog, she is not go-go-go all the time; she is content to laze around during the day or in between play sessions with her dog or human friends. The most important factor for Misha is finding a home with a family that is able to maintain her treatment regiment for her conditions (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency and Atypical Addison's; the EPI in particular is expensive to treat.) Misha has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, which means she must take a special supplement with her meals and cannot have any food or treats in between meals/without that supplement.
