Story
Oliver was found by Columbia Animal Services on 2/1/24. He is believed to be about 4 years old weighing just under 80lbs and was neutered at the shelter on 2/9/24. Columbia Animal Services shelter is running at almost max capacity frequently and dogs that do not get adopted out risk euthanasia at the shelter. We are currently fostering Oliver to get him out of that environment. Oliver is very smart, he knows commands like sit, lay-down, shake, stay. He is house trained and has not needed to be crated when we are not home. He gets along well (for the most part) with our 2 dogs. He is also amazing with our 9yo son. They bonded immediately and Oliver follows him everywhere and sleeps in his room.

Story
Leia is a calm, well-mannered lady who lets her playful side out when romping with other dogs! She is around 57 lbs, but will likely be closer to 50 with consistent exercise and nutrition. The vet estimates Leia to be 5 years old. Leia came to Halfway There Rescue from a shelter on the island of Antigua, which shared that she used to be a stray struggling to stay alive. Someone found her and her litter of puppies under a house and brought them to the shelter in Antigua. Now, she’s ready for her turn for adoption, and she’ll be a great addition to any family. She’s fully house-trained and a rockstar in her crate. She’s a quiet queen: in her foster home, she doesn’t bark at people or dogs passing by, or visitors to the house. She’s friendly with other dogs and loves to run and wrestle in the yard. She is still figuring out some of the trickier parts of indoor life (like hardwood floors), but she’s already loving cuddles, soft beds, and gentle attention. If you're looking for the ultimate love, Leia may just be the pup for you!

Story
Ziva is a very sweet 2 year old German Shepherd Dog. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, house trained, and weighs 56 pounds. She absolutely loves humans (the vet called her a very special dog), loves to chase after balls, and loves to snuggle on the couch. She does very well in her crate overnight and during the day when her foster parents are at work.  She wants so to be queen bee of the house! She did well with her dog test at the shelter; however, she is not getting along with the resident dog in her foster home, so they are separated in the home for now. She may do better in a home with no other dogs; or in a home with no dominant dogs.  If you are interested in adopting Ziva please submit an inquiry directly with Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet’s age.  ***Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to meet/pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt.***    January 8, 2025, 8:03 pm

Story
Please contact foster at bchris716@bellsouth.netHurley is the bestest boy. He gets along well with our two large, neutered male dogs. One is 11, and the other is 4. Hurley plays with the younger dog, but is also calm with the older fellow. His hobbies include giving kisses, carrying around tennis balls and chew toys, hanging around his people and dog brothers, eating treats, and rolling in the grass. He is currently slightly underweight, but is eating three meals a day to rectify that. Fast facts about Hurley:-Housetrained with frequent potty breaks in our fenced in yard. He has had one accident here, but nothing since the first day. -Crate trained. He will go in his crate (sometimes begrudgingly), and will settle quickly. He has not had accidents in his crate while here and is crated 8 hours overnight. -Knows sit, and we’re working on wait.-He goes to his dog bed when told for the most part and will settle. We suspect he has had some training at some point. -Plays appropriately with our dogs, and takes correction well if he gets too rambunctious.-Has not shown signs of any resource guarding with our dogs or people. -Hurley does well taking cues from resident dogs, and has responded appropriately when they communicate with him.-Tolerated his bath and nail clipping-Does not get on furniture or counter surf.-Has not been destructive here, and does not pick things up that are not dog toys.-Is an excellent car rider.-Has not been exposed to small children, but does well with our teenager. -Hurley pulls on his leash and definitely needs some work in this area. -Hurley fixates on our cats, and should be in a home without them.

Story
Contact the foster at, chantelchazell@gmail.comRupert is a goofy and playful shepherd looking for his forever home! He would love to go to a shepherd experienced owner. More about Rupert:- He is a huge goof at heart- He loves tummy scratches and to play with his toys especially if there’s a squeaker- Knows sit, down, paw, drop it- Potty trained and does well left alone- Seems to have a prey drive towards cats- Has been living with foster’s female dog without signs of resource guarding. Might do best with submissive female dogs- Leash reactive and has shown some barrier reactivity too. He would really benefit from someone with breed experience to work on or understand these behaviors
