Puppies are a lot of fun, but also a lot of responsibility! Things you should be aware of before adopting a puppy from the Denver Animal Shelter:* Puppies will need regular socialization. The critical time period for socialization is between 8 and 16 weeks, but it is important to continue to socialize your new pup throughout their young life. This means having positive and enjoyable interactions with as many new people, new dogs, and new environments as possible. Appropriate socialization will help puppies grow into healthier and more social adults.* They will not know what is appropriate to chew on, where they should go to the bathroom, and how to behave in all situations. Puppies require a lot of time spent on training, management, and supervision. It is recommended that puppies be crate trained or kept in a puppy-proofed room of the house with appropriate chew toys and enrichment when not actively supervised. The Denver Animal Shelter always recommends positive reinforcement-based training methods. * Puppies in a shelter environment often have unknown parentage. Events are held each Saturday from 12 pm to 5 pm at our office: 2721 W Oxford Ave., Suite 6 Englewood, CO 80110 *In order to protect our puppies, we do not allow puppies to attend open events until they have a minimum of two vaccinations. Puppies who are available, but not listed on our weekly Facebook event, are considered "deposit only" puppies. These puppies will only attend the event IF they are reserved through a deposit. You can check the list of puppies attending the open event by checking the event: https://www.facebook.com/MAMCORescue At MAMCO we understand that in order to continue rescuing moms and babies, we must stretch our finances as far as we are able. For this reason we use variable adoption pricing. By assigning higher adoption fees to high demand moms and puppies, we are able to rescue more families in need.The money raised through these adoptions acts as a benefactor to moms and puppies in our care who require expensive veterinary treatments, have behavioral issues, or need more time to find a home. We often reduce the adoption fees on these harder-to-place moms and puppies to help them find forever families. Adoption fees vary. Applications can be filled out at mamcorescue.org. We host adoption events almost every Saturday from 11:00am to 2:00pm at our rescue office (1721 W Harmony, unit 102, Fort Collins, Co 80526)! These pups are brought to Colorado, where they are required to be spayed or neutered - breaking the cycle of unwanted litters of puppies who end up as strays!
