Story
We adopted Kingsley from the local shelter in 2021. He was found roaming the streets and no one claimed him. The shelter described him as a 2 yo Newfoundland, but after having Widsom Panel DNA testing ran, turns out he was 100% Great Pyrenees and was approximately 6 mo at the time. This was confirmed by our vet. Unfortunately, we no longer have the time to devote to Kingsley that he deserves. He is great with other dogs/cats/children. He goes to doggie daycare once a week for playtime and is good with dogs of any size. We have a 2 yo son and he is gentle with him as well. Kingsley is neutered, micro-chipped, up to date on all his shots, and is groomed regularly. He does well with free feeding, and eats Science Diet Large Breed. His last checkup was in November, and he weighed 81 lbs. We will provide bed, toys, bowls/stand, and any remaining flea/tick and heartworm meds. Note: He will run away if not on a leash, but feel that with proper training he will stop.

Story
Hello, I'm Mo! I'm the sweetest, friendliest, most curious dog you'll ever meet. I've lived most of my life outdoors, so I could adapt again to that life or life inside loving you. I do good in a kennel and seem to be pretty well potty-trained. I'm selective about other dogs so a proper introduction is a must. I absolutely LOVE my belly rubbed.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2032005##

Story
Hi, I'm Luna Bear! I'm a 8 year old Great Pyrenese mix. I'm an older lady and have been in the shelter system for almost 3 years...I'm a lady of leisure and independence. I appreciate my own space, and while I may not be the life of the dog park, I offer a mellow companionship that's hard to find. I prefer a quiet home where I can relax and be myself. I'm not one for other dogs or cats, but I promise to fill your life with a unique kind of love. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Story
Hi, my name is Stella but I go by Stellie-Bellie. I am guessed to be a 3 yr old Great Pyrenees, around 71 lbs, and here in Colorado searching for my furever family, all the way from Texas. When I first arrived here I was not feeling my best. But after some TLC, antibiotics, and anti-itch medicine I am good as new! I do have some weakness and instability in my hind legs but that doesn't stop me from getting the zoomies before bedtime! Plus the vet said my x-rays look good! True to her breed, Stella enjoys sunbathing in the yard and being stubborn when being called in. Despite her stubborn nature, Stella is eager to please and responds well to praise. She enjoys dividing her time between laying in the sun, protecting the yard and snuggled up at her humans feet. Stella gets along well with other dogs with slow introduction but would do best in a home with a submissive, low energy dog or as an only pet. We are still working on potty training and counter surfing, but with gentle correction, she is making good progress. Stella continues to have weakness in her hind legs but they do not seem to be in pain and doesn't stop her from enjoying running and playing. Her hip x-ray did not show any signs of problems. She had bad allergies and skin infections upon first arrival, but with a beef diet and allergy medicine, this issue is nearly completely resolved. Though needing a little extra love, Stella is such a sweetie and everyone that has met her has instantly fallen in love. If you have room in your heart and home, apply to meet miss Stellie.

Story
Meet Antonio, a handsome and gentle male Great Pyrenees. This guy is around 2 years old, has already captured the hearts of volunteers with his docile, shy personality, and is just begging for someone to love him! Tony is a true representation of the saying "gentle giant". Despite his large size and strong stature, he is a calm and docile dog who would love a family with patience and love to help transition him into his new life. *Update as of 1/24/25: He has been with a foster in Denver for one month. He has shown that he would be most comfortable with a confident dog in the home. He loves small dogs! He gets a little nervous with city noises and he can be very timid when going outside. A quiet home with a yard and easy access to outside would be ideal. He has shown that he likes being around the 10 year old kid in the house. He is fine with cats. He loves to have his face rubbed and enjoys treats. He needs a home with patience and love. Please apply if you have questions and we can connect. Let us know if you want to schedule an initial meet.

Story
Bubba is one sweet boy looking to find a family to show him all the love he deserves! His hobbies include playing with all the toys, getting belly rubs, and playing with other dogs. He’s a little shy at first but is warming up quickly as he discovers what it means to be a dog. He’s potty trained and has been doing great in his kennel. Having a confident dog in the house definitely helps him show his full personality and he would like me to mention again how much he loves playing. He is quickly learning that walks are exciting and full of sniffs. If you’re looking for a playful sweetheart, Bubba is the dog for you!
