Story
Age: approx 3-4 years Weight: 76 lbs (ideal weight 85-90 lbs)  Lila was found stray and ended up at a very crowded city shelter. Her owners didn't come for her but her new foster mom did! She's now living the good life in a home until she finds her forever family. She arrived to the shelter with scabs on her nose and they are healing.  At the shelter, Lila was described as dainty and gentle and social with other dogs. Her foster mom says she's great on a leash and rides well in the car, and she actively seeks pets and attention. This happy girl has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She tested positive for heartworms and has been treated. We're certain she'll be adopted by the time she needs to be retested for heartworms in January, but we'll cover the cost of the test and any further treatment that may be required (likely none). We haven't seen her around cats and imagine she will be just fine in a family with children. We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at http://legacyhumanesociety.org/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application. Story
Why rescue a Pyr? Don't let the big size fool you! Great Pyrenees are kind, gentle guardians. Adult Pyrs are calm; comfortable living inside close to their humans without requiring a lot of activity or space. They are extremely loving and will even be your lap dog if you so desire! Pyrs have superb eyesight and love the outdoors where they can watch the world go by in a fenced in yard or on a leash by your side. Why rescue THIS awesome Pyr, Marvel? After looking into his beautiful eyes, the answer is clearly, "Why not?" This 7yr old handsome male Pyr will melt your heart. After being left on a rural property, Marvel lived outdoors taking shelter under a porch since 2018. This January he was shot with an arrow, then treated for heartworm, and later required removal of his front leg due to soft tissue carcinoma. All of that is in his past! He is cancer free, has mastered being a tripod, and has the sweetest personality despite what he has been through. He deserves a wonderful low-key environment with humans that treat him like a king! Marvel starts his day with a giant wag of the tail and some Pyr "talk! Excited to eat breakfast alongside his two canine house mates. He loves other dogs. The three share sniffs and tail wags and Marvel takes his cues on what he is supposed to do from the other resident dogs. Despite living outside for years, Marvel is house broken and asks to go outside by standing by the door and "talking. He also responds to verbal correction, such as the word no if he tries to get on the couch. Relaxation is Marvel's main pastime; deservedly so! Where his people or dogs are is where he wants to be. Whether inside on some cushy carpet or outside enjoying some cool breezes he is a happy pup. That is not to say when he goes outside, he doesn't make the most of it. Marvel can now run on his three legs, tries to dig up some dirt with one front paw (working on that!), and will make sure your fence is safe from "intruders. Leftover from living outside, Marvel has a tendency to want to crawl under the bushes and trees as if to hide. A little coaxing and bit of chicken usually brings him out. A tall, secure fenced in yard is a must for Marvel. Understandably, Marvel takes a bit to get used to new people and environments. He is a submissive dog who amazingly still has the capacity to trust kind humans. Loud sounds and chaos stress him still; although he's getting much better, especially with the TV. Marvel will shake a bit and go to the furthest spot if anything is too much. Also, not a fan of the car, but he lies nicely in back seat with dog seatbelt in place. As for barking, which many Pyrs love to do, I have only heard Marvel bark when he has been put in a crate. He is not a fan. Other than that he is super quiet even when my dogs are barking! I've fostered many dogs and this guy has been the easiest in spite of former medical issues. Marvels requirements are now few but important to him: love, sweet talking, belly/ear rubs, kindness, patience, a nice yard with grass, another dog in the house, and soft indoor spots to lay on, and very little chaos. Marvel would be so happy to share a home with a quiet environment and a sweet resident dog. He has not been around young children or cats. All Dallas Dog adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. You can complete an application or view all the adoptable pets on our website at www.dallasdog.org/adopt. Upon receiving your application, please allow us 2-3 business days to review and process.
