Freddie is about 2 to 3 years old. He is the sweetest little guy you’d ever meet. He loves people. He’s shy at first, but once he gets to know a person, he loves his people. He’s not very good with other dogs that he meets, but if introduced slowly he is fine. He loves his foster sister Millie; he grooms her and they run around and play so not really sure what his history is. He is a runner. He snuck past me and we did have to chase him down the street. Luckily, he is food motivated and with the help of some neighbors we enticed him with the food and got him back but again this is probably one of the reasons why he wound up in the animal shelter. He looks like he’s like some type of whippet mix. I don’t think he’s going to get much bigger. He might just get a little fatter. He is mostly house trained as long as he is kept on a schedule. Just needs to be on the schedule and then once he knows when he’s going be let out he’ll be totally fine. He’s not crated when we leave. He sleeps in bed with us. I would really like to see him go to a home with older kids and would be fine in an apartment as long as he gets his exercise. Ollie is a 3 month cattle dog/lab mix. Ollie is a playful, cuddly pup that wants to be your constant companion. Very gentle and easy going, doesn’t nip fingers and really loves a good long belly rub. I'm Sunny! My name is fitting since I am sure to bring lots of sunshine to your life. I am a 2 year old, 48 lb, lab mix. I was left at a high kill shelter in southern Indiana by my previous owner who claimed I was a stray but they discovered he adopted me as a puppy and had me for my whole life. I can't understand why he lied and left me, as I am the most docile girl who LOVES everyone and everything: kids, people, other dogs, cuddles, walks, parks, car rides, stores, and all the adventures I've been on in my foster home! I have an exceptional temperament with children. I sit and allow them to pet me, boop my nose, kiss my head, touch my face/body and I’m very mellow. With all the children I have met and interacted with, I have not moved towards them or made any attempts to get in their face or kiss them unless the child has initiated and seems comfortable with me. Only then have I given a few kisses on their hands and I love when they give me all the pets. I truly have an innate sense of nurture and would love human siblings of my own! When I first got to my foster home, I wanted all of my foster mom’s attention and had to learn to share my foster mom with my foster pup sister. Now, I love playing with my foster sister, especially outside. My foster mom has been training me to stay on the floor and off the furniture, and I learned to follow the expectations after only 3 days. I respond beautifully to R+ training and am easily redirectable. I am motivated by attention and treats, which make training a breeze. I am eager to please and do what is expected of me. I have learned to respect my order in the pack, and my foster mom says I will make the best family dog. I let my foster mom touch/rub all over my face, pull treats/chews out of my mouth, pick me up, hold me, put me on my back, touch my legs, paws, tail etc. with no reaction other than my big smile. Fun fact-I think I might be a human baby in a furry, four-legged body. I am a submissive girl who is quick to lay on my back and welcome all the belly rubs I can get. I also like when my foster mom holds me like a baby and tells me how good of a girl I am. I haven’t shown much interest in toys yet. I’ve picked up a few stuffed toys belonging to my four-legged foster sister, but I do not rip or destroy them. I seem to like them as comfort items as I don’t react to squeakers. I have a few stuffies in my crate and I like to lay on them like pillows. This is a great quality of mine, especially if I were to have young human siblings of my own. My foster mom thinks I would be happy with another four legged sibling as well, but I would be just as content on my own. I love my crate. It is my safe place to relax, sleep, enjoy my chews, and eat. I wiggle my butt all the way in and am content as can be! Outside of the crate, I love to be near my foster mom and furry foster sister. I will follow my foster mom around the house and sit at her feet. I love to go outside, and am learning how to ring the bells at the door to tell my foster mom to let me out. I am phenomenal on the leash-the best my foster mom has ever had! I walk at my foster mom’s knees and at her pace, have not pulled at all, no matter where we are or the commotion around us. I also love car rides-whether it’s just for a ride around the neighborhood, to a park, a pet store or any store that allows dogs (they love me at Lush Naperville!), out for a pup cup or doggy cone, or any other adventure my foster mom takes me on! I sit so nicely in the car and am calm everywhere I go. I am also a very quiet girl. My foster mom has only heard me bark a few times, even when my furry foster sister barks at the delivery people. Hello, my name is Hudson and I am an 8 year old lab mix. Although Im not super tall and have a lean look, I am 68 lbs. I'm a handsome, dark chocolate color with some white on my chest though my coat looks black in a lot of inside photos. My foster mom says I was probably someone's pet, since I was neutered and someone clipped my tail. I am good on a leash & know words like sit and treat, but I somehow became a stray. Without a chip, my owners had little hope of finding me. Unfortunately, the shelter in Kentucky who found me was super full and didnt give me a lot of time. After only 10 days, I was on the euthanasia list, and thats when TAR rescued me. I am a relaxed, mellow, sweet and loving guy. I love humans, and will rub up against you and ask for pets even when you first meet me. My favorite place to be is anywhere you are Ill lay at your feet while you work on the computer. Ill watch you as youre folding laundry or doing chores. As long as youre near me, and Im not locked away in one room alone, Im happy. I love to snuggle on the couch with my chin in your lap, though Im also happy laying on the floor at your feet. Also, I take treats SO gently! I'm generally not very into toys but have learned about the Kong toy and the nylabone at my foster house. Oh, and if youre going out, I really like car rides. I just hop right in and Im really good and quite in the car, so maybe just take me with you if youre going out! I am very friendly to humans and greet every person I meet on a walk with a wiggle-butt, wagging stub (tail). I am very trusting and let human touch my anywhere. My current foster home has teens, and I am great with them. Ive had some gentle and friendly interactions with young kids, but because of my size, TAR is recommending that kids in my new home be at least 8. I'm generally a quiet boy in the house, but when I do bark, that bark is Loud! So, Im a good deterrent, but shared-wall living like an apartment or condo is not for me. A single-family home is best for me. I'm house trained and I will give out little whines and nudge you or walk to the door if I have to go outside. And if youre looking for a great walking buddy, I love to walk outside and I walk nicely on a leash most of the time. I only really pull if there is a REALLY interesting thing to sniff. When other dogs bark at me through a fence or across the street during a walk, I dont bark back. I would be happiest in a home where someone is home with me most of the time like a retiree, a stay-at-home parent, or a work from home person. I am happy to peacefully coexist with other dogs, especially with dogs who are similar in size (40-70 lbs). My foster home has three other dogs and Im good with all of them. I dont necessarily play with them, so Id also be OK as an only dog IF there is a human at home with me. I just dont like being alone. A vet recently realized that my pupils are always dilated which means I may not see super clearly. The vet recommends that my new family takes me to a veterinary ophthalmologist to see if I have a treatable condition. If its not treatable, thats probably OK because I seem to have adapted to it pretty well. I have no trouble going up or down the stairs, and I can still see the squirrels on my walks just fine! The vet thinks that my need to be near a human and/or another dog all the time might be partially related to this vision issue. (Although, Im just a love bug, too.) Given my vision impairment, a fenced yard is a must for me so that I have a safe place that is contained and where no new dogs can come in and surprise me. I just shouldnt be running or too active right now because I am Heartworm positive. TAR is helping me recover, as heartworm is treatable and preventable and not easily contagious to other dogs that may be in my new home. Ive already started my heartworm prevention medication, and I am scheduled for three heartworm cure injections: one in mid-August, and two in mid-September. Then Ill be retested in mid-October and again 6 months later just to be sure it worked. Ill need to be on heartworm prevention medicine for the rest of my life to make sure these heartworms dont come back!! If you adopt me during the treatment, TAR will continue to cover the cost of the treatment. Youll just have to go to the TAR vet in Naperville. I'm patiently waiting for my chance to be your faithful companion. Bullfrog is an active, intelligent, goofy guy that unfortunately has grown up in the shelter. We don't get it, because he is a total catch. He needs a home that will give him not only love, but plenty of exercise and consistency with the training he has already accomplished! He has completed two classes with A Sound Beginning, and was a star pupil. He should definitely continue taking classes with A Sound Beginning and doing work in home, because he thoroughly enjoys it! Bullfrog is a rough player, so a home with older children or adults only would be preferred. He loves rough-housing with his shelter friend, Supergirl. If there's another dog in the home, they should be as active as he is with plenty of supervision so everyone is happy!
