Shelby is good around another dog, almost completely potty trained, understands basic commands, enjoys playing with kids and meeting new people. She will go to her kennel when told (treat trained) and will sit before being let out. This sweet, soft girl loves to be pet and scratched. She's a funny puppy who really likes laying on floor vents. Zeus is a very friendly. He does well with cats and other dogs. He does require a lot of attention that we are not able to give him and would like to find him a better home. We do let him out when we are home but we crate him at night in an enclosure because regular crates were bothering his hips.

Story
Pete is 3, was adopted from Dallas shelter by a family member. Lived with dogs before I got him. Overall he’s a good dog. He is food motivated. He walks well with a gentle leash. Gets excited and hard to control when other dogs come. His behavior depends on behavior of other dogs. He is not good around young children, the reason why I’m rehoming. Children 8 and older, he’s only encountered on a leash. He likes playing with his rope toy but can get a little intense at times. He does well placed behind a baby gate. Had some anxiety when I first left him but has gotten better. He would do well in a home without young children and cats. A good sized backyard so he can run and maybe a few rabbits to chase. Any other questions, please contact me.

Story
I was adopted back in April of 2014 from the Safe Harbor Program (Bonner Springs, KS). I was born January 31, 2014 and I'm 10 years old. I am energetic even at my age! If I had it my way, I would be outside running around in the sun all day long! However, given my owner's schedule and lifestyle, I have been an indoor dog for the majority of my life. I am very social and curious about my surroundings, and I love attention! One unique aspect about me is that I don't bark that much compared to other doggies! I will whimper if I need some attention, I'm hungry or if I need to go outside. I am very well-mannered. However, I do get excited around new people and sometimes jump up for kisses and a closer sniff! I do know "sit," "stay," and "come here" commands, and I respond well to finger snaps and pointing as well once I have warmed up to you. Energetic, Fun, and Loving are a few words that describe me.

Story
We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in fostering or adoption from us, please fill lout our online application at kcpaws.org. Whiskey's adoption fee will be $150. She must go to a home with at least one other dog.  Whiskey lived on a rural farm in Oklahoma as a completely feral dog. When she arrived she had no idea what it meant to be touched by a human. She had never been on a leash, never even eaten from a bowl. She was terrified of everything around her and did not know what it meant to trust anyone. For weeks, our staff would sit in her run just to get her used to human company, she was to scared to take treats from us and would wait to eat until the night time when everyone was gone. We slowly began to introduce her to other dogs, which really helped her start to come out of her shell just enough to go outside and back in on her own. Whiskey’s rehabilitation has been nearly 4 years in the making. Slowly, she finally started to bond with a particular staff member. She enjoys quiet time and gentle pets and brushing. Whiskey is now in a wonderful foster home and has made a lot of improvement and is beginning to trust people. Her foster mom has been working on getting her used to leashes, and she now goes for walks EVERY NIGHT! This is a huge improvement, and we are so proud of her. Whiskey has another dog in her foster home and they get along well, she's not really much of a player but she co-exists with another dog just fine. We are requiring that she go to a home with another dog since she is much more comfortable with other canines around to show her everything is okay. She often likes to spend time just laying in her bed. She is a den dog who likes to have a safe space.  Whiskey is food motivated and will warm up to new things with the help of her favorite treats. She squeals with joy at new foods, and especially loves a little bit of ice cream. Overall, Whiskey has had a long journey to learning how to be a house pet, and she is still learning everyday. She is a quiet, shy girl who has never barked or growled in almost two years in her foster home. We're hoping to find Whiskey a family that will give her lots of time, love, and TLC.August 19, 2024, 12:37 pm

Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. SEEKING FOSTER HOME Meet Lycan, the best older gentleman with the kindest soul. Lycan is about 7 years old and he has had a pretty rough go at life, although you wouldn't know it when you meet him. Lycan was kept on a chain for his whole life until we caught wind of his situation and were able to take him into our program. When we arrived to take him off his chain, he was starved and dehydrated beyond belief, but happy as all get out to see us walking up. Not a growl to be heard, Lycan knew we were there to save him. After 2 of our staff members cut off his rusted and filthy collar, it was on to a vet visit for vaccines, a 5 hour car ride, and thus began our journey of nursing Lycan back to health. Lycan is currently on a meal plan to get back up to a healthy weight so he can be safely neutered and prepped for his forever home. While we work on this process, we are desperately seeking a foster home, so Lycan can learn what it's like to be a true pet and not an object to be left outside. If you can find it in your heart to give this guy the opportunity to be an inside dog for the first time in 7 years, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org. Lycan does need to be an only pet at this time, and needs a home free of young children. August 19, 2024, 12:37 pm

Story
Meet Charlie! This 5 year old lab mix is such a sweetie - loves humans, loves love. Charlie is looking for an environment to thrive - someone with a fenced in yard and who will let him run. Charlie also would do well with a "job" - retrieving sticks/toys, learning new tricks, etc. Charlie does great on a leash with an EZ Walk harness (he will come with him so he's successful!) and a toy in his mouth (definitely a retriever!). Charlie would make an awesome camping/hiking partner (as long as he stays on leash)! Charlie must be the only pet in the home. He isn't a candidate for dog parks/daycare. He just wants all the human love to himself. Charlie loves humans so hard! He is food motivated and loves chew toys! Due to his size and energy level, we recommend kids over the age of 10 in the home (he is still a jumper and might knock a younger kiddo over!). Charlie truly is just a big lug of a boy in the best way possible. He's soft, he's snuggly, he's a giant kisser! Charlie's adoption fee is $200 and comes with age appropriate vaccines, neuter, microchip, and heartworm prevention.
