Adoption fee: $750 Meet Mystic, a 2-3 year old, 17 lb Lhasa/Shih Tzu mix who was a rescue from the shelter. He came to us with a crazy matted coat that was in desperate need of some TLC, so we rushed him to our groomer and got him all cleaned up. He feels much better now! Mystic is a total character, known for his 'begging dance' - check out Instagram for evidence! Here is the report from his foster home. Mystic wakes up around 8, but continues to snooze until he sees activity from his humans. Our routine is a 15 min walk in the morning, a lunchtime 20 min walk, and then another 20ish min walk in the evening. Dinner is around 5. He’s picky about his food and was clearly fed human food at some point! Mystic is a night owl, happy to party on with his human until lights out. Sometimes that’s as late as 11 or 12. He really likes to be able to see me when he is sleeping, so sometimes sleeps in the bed, but when I need some space, he will sleep in the bathroom with his dog bed. He will whine a bit at first but then settles down and sleeps through the night. He's not a big fan of the crate, so we haven't forced it. This guy’s stage name is Batman. Not only does he have ears he can use to fly, but when out and about, he’s on a mission. He also wants to be a superhero for his human. He loves being within line of sight to his human. He is extremely happy to go out walking, and seems to have a big smile on his face when he’s sniffing the outside world. He is a total lovebug - he loves to be scratched behind the ears and get his belly rubbed. He completely melts and rolls over and begs for more with his paws when you stop. With that said, he is wary of new people and does best with slow introductions that involve plenty of yummy treats. He's not aggressive, but can be fearful, so he needs an adopter that understands this and will advocate for him when he's out and about in the big world. One of his most funny and endearing traits is that he has been trained to say “please” by sitting on his hind legs and “praying” with his front paws. He does it when he would like you to share your food, go for a walk, and continue to pet him after you stop. He also sometimes does it when you’re asking him to sit. It’s his one-stop parlor trick and it’s absolutely hilarious. When it’s unwelcome, I gently put his front paws on the floor and he stops. Mystic can be okay with other dogs, but has been a bit selective when meeting them so far, so slow intros are best. He would likely prefer to be the only dog in the home but could adjust to living with another dog as long as the union is taken slowly and he is given time and space alone as well. Mystic is mostly a homebody, but can go from couch potato to enjoying the backyard or a walk with enthusiasm. He keeps a good pace walking, doesn’t mind jogging for a block or two, and he is slow to tire. (Our average walk time is 20-30 min.) He is chill at home and happy to rest on his dog bed quietly within sight of me. I’ve been working on getting him to understand the command bed for his dog bed and rewarding with treats and praise when he goes there and settles down . He also gladly sits with his human watching TV or chilling in bed. He does not like to be removed from the bed, so the adopting home should probably decide if that’s a place they want him or not and establish that from the beginning. He knows the command sit at home when he is focused and there is a treat involved. He doesn’t know his name, but responds to clicks and whistles. Now that we’ve established a relationship, he will usually come when called that way. It took a few days for him to trust me. After we built trust, he seems to be motivated by food as well as praise. We’ve been working on “stay” (with one finger up). He’s catching on and would be good to continue to work on, with the reward of a treat. He rides well in the car secured with a harness or in a crate. Housetraining is a work in progress, but he seems to have the basic idea! Mystic will be a fabulous companion for a home with patience and a desire to continue the great training work started in his foster home. He will require a home with prior dog experience and is best suited to a home with teens/adults only. March 21, 2025, 7:59 pm
