Story
Sweet Grammy was found by a Good Samaritan in the middle of a busy street and was delighted to join Miri's Haven while awaiting her forever home. She is sweet and easy to take care of. She loves people and is a good snuggler. She is housetrained and gets along with the dogs and cats in her foster home. She loves a good nap on a soft bed and a cozy sweater when it's chilly out. She loves going for walks with plenty of interesting smells and rides well in the car. While she may not have 100% of her vision, she gets around easily and can even go up and down a few stairs. Grammy would love to join your family! Fostered in Falls Church, VA

Story
Meet Vida the Diva! She is a snazzy miniature poodle who was found abandoned on the side of the road, locked in a crate with two other dogs. Her zest for life gives no hint of her struggles or the fear she must have faced. From the moment she arrived at her foster family's home, Vida knew she belonged. She immediately claimed their hearts ~ and the comfiest spots in the house! But her journey was just beginning. We knew Vida needed extensive medical care, and after a thorough vet exam we learned she would require two major surgeries. On February 10th, she bravely underwent her first ~ a spay and a mastectomy on her right side. The best news? The masses were confirmed cancer-free! Through it all, Vida has remained the loving, spunky girl we fell in love with ~ greeting everyone with excitement, stealing the softest spots in the house, and slowly regaining her playful spirit. Now, with her stitches removed and her confidence returning, Vida is back to running in the yard, barking at everyone (because, of course, divas must be heard), and rocking her fabulous wardrobe. Her second surgery, including a mastectomy on the left side and a much-needed dental, is scheduled for mid to late March. For now, she’s living her best life… soaking up snuggles, enjoying car rides, and generally overseeing her kingdom from her rightful place as queen of the house. Whoever is lucky enough to welcome this little star into their home will be getting a dog full of love, resilience, and a whole lot of diva energy! Story
Meet Julie! She is a sweet, beautiful girl who has had a rough go of it and is looking for her soft landing spot. Julie was purchased in New York City, a tiny, delicate poodle bought as a breeding dog to make her owners money. But when she managed to escape and landed in a shelter, her owners had a choice: get her the medical care required by the shelter to bring her home or leave her behind. They chose to leave her behind. Julie has settled into the routine here at Miri's HQ, enjoying time outside, loving her meals, and making herself at home in her chosen comfy crate space. She’s not a fan of dogs in her face but she coexists just fine with them - and even allowed one special friend into her crate for a snuggle. She’s using pee pads and has even been spotted coming in and out of the dog door on her own! Julie has some neurological challenges: when she’s relaxed, she’s pretty steady, but when she moves, she spins in tight little right circles to get around. She’s looking for a forever family with a yard (she’s not a leash walker) and someone patient enough to help her navigate the world in her own way. Could you be that person for Julie? Please contact Caitlin Finn (caitlin.finn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet boy ISO fresh start and love! TOBY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Toby       Best Guess for Breed: Poodle mix Best Guess for Age:   3 years as of February 2025      Gender: Male Approximate Weight:  53 lbs Gets Along With: He gets along with other dogs. We haven't seen him with kids or cats. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment.  Special Adoption Considerations: Toby is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Toby is Looking For: His forever family! This sweetie landed in the shelter through no fault of his own and he's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed sound good to him too. And Toby was heavily matted - mats are painful!! - when he arrived, and had to be shaved down completely. That coat is high maintenance, requiring daily brushing and regular professional grooming. He wants humans who understand that mats hurt and take good care of his coat.  In exchange, he promises adoring gazes and all the love and loyalty in him. What do you say? Is this sweetie the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Story
If you are interested in adopting this dog, please email the adoption counselor:  lisastern.tr@gmail.com  and request an adoption application.  Dog's Name:  Pearl Estimated Breed :  Poodle Mix Approximate Age: 7 yrs Approximate Weight:  11 lbs Currently Living at:  Foster Adoption Fee:  $400   DOG'S DESCRIPTION: Pearl  had a rough start to her life. She was a breeder dog in a puppy mill and then sold to someone who didn't realize how unsocialized she was because of her little experience around humans. They were able to get her vetted but then decided that they didn't have the skills and patience to work with her. Pearl needs a loving patient home so she can learn that people are kind and can be trusted.  Personality: While Pearl is  very skittish with people, she is extremely sweet - not a mean bone in her little body. She is not a biter, but will run away from you if you are within a few feet from her. She is still getting used to being around people.  Training & Behavior:  Pearl is n ot housetrained, but is getting the idea with pee pads. As you can imagine, being a breeder mill dog, she has not experienced activities such as using steps or walking on leash. In general, Pearl is not a barker, but if left in a crate or x-pen, she will howl to let you know when she wants out.  Health & Wellness: Pearl is energetic, up to date on her core vaccines and spayed.  Perfect Home:  Pearl  would do best in a single family home with fenced yard. A quiet, low key environment without children is preferred only because noise and quick movements make her nervous. She would never harm anyone, but she is skittish. Ultimately, she would thrive in a home with another confident dog to show her the way and an adopter who has  rescue experience and will make a long term commitment to working with her. S he will be worth the effort! Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (for dogs over 6 months old), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, Hatton Animal Rescue spends significantly more on each dog than the adoption fee.
