We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations:  Franklin comes from a commercial breeding operation and has never lived in a home before.  The breeding operation has been shut down, and this adorable pup now has the chance to learn what it's like to be a real dog.    About Franklin:  Franklin hasn't had a great start to life but he hopes his luck is about to change. Franklin has spent his whole life as part of a commercial breeding operation that has now been shut down. Just imagine being in a tiny cage 24 hours a day with little care, no human companionship and only brought out when it was time to be bred.  The Lucky Dog staff have been telling this sweet boy all about what's in store for him - warm beds, gentle cuddles, romps through grassy parks, belly rubs, long walks with his forever family and someone to return his unconditional love. Franklin can’t wait to experience all of those things for the very first time!  Franklin has never lived in a house before, but if you can be a patient teacher, Franklin promises to be a very good boy and learn household manners as quickly as he can.  What My Foster Says About Me:  Franklin was very nervous when he first arrived but, in just a couple of days, he's already begun coming out of his shell. He's happy to see his foster mom, napping at her feet while she teleworks, and has loved playing in the fenced backyard. He's quickly learned the household rules and is working on leash training - it seems he's never walked on one before! Franklin's playful side is beginning to poke through and he's started exploring toys.  His crate is his safe space for observing comings-and-goings, daytime naps and he sleeps in it quietly throughout the night.  With a bit of patience, confidence-building and TLC, Franklin will be a loving companion! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested.    Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations: Toby comes from a commercial breeding operation and has never lived in a home before.  The breeding operation has been shut down, and this adorable pup now has the chance to learn what its like to be a real dog. Toby is shy so MUST go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Toby in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   About Toby: Toby hasn't had a great start to life but he hopes his luck is about to change. Toby has spent his whole life as part of a commercial breeding operation that has now been shut down. We’re taking baby steps using positive reinforcement and he's slowly making progress, accepting attention from his foster family more and more.     He likes the freedom of my fenced yard and does his business there usually. He is still working on his house training but is doing well with routine, frequent potty breaks.  Leashes are new to him but he's doing well on pack walks in quiet neighborhoods with the other dogs acting as role models. He loves meeting other dogs when out and about, though he's still wary of their owners.  Toby is very quiet and calm. He’s great in his crate and takes comfort there so it stays open for him throughout the day. He’s not sure about toys, but lights up with tail wag's when my rescues are nearby. He pays close attention to them and is slowly, but surely learning how to be his best dog self. With continued patience, he will learn to trust his people. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Name: Sassy  Best Guess for Breed:  Poodle and Yorkie mix Best Guess for Age:  8 years as of August 2024       SEX:  FemaleApproximate Weight: 6 lbs 6 ounces but underweight Gets Along With:   Sassy loves being around other dogs and lives peacefully with a cat. She has done well around her foster's young niece but we would be cautious about placing Sassy in a home with children under 12 yrs because she frightens easily around loud noises and abrupt movements. Currently Living at:   DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Sassy comes from a commercial breeding operation and has never lived in a home before. About Sassy:  Sassy hasn't had a great start to life but she hopes her luck is about to change. Sassy has spent her whole life as part of a commercial breeding operation that has now been shut down. Just imagine being in a tiny cage 24 hours a day with little care, no human companionship, only brought out when it was time to be bred and having to have 2 litters every year. The Lucky Dog staff have been telling this sweet, shy girl all about what's in store for her - warm beds, gentle cuddles, romps through grassy parks, belly rubs, long walks with her forever family and someone to return her unconditional love. Sassy can’t wait to experience all of those things for the very first time! What My Foster Says About Me:  Sassy has been one of the easiest fosters I've had - she's quiet, gets along with the other dogs, doesn't bother the cat, has done well with potty training as long as she gets frequent bathroom breaks, no problematic chewing, etc. She LOVES mealtime but isn't motivated by most dog or human treats, except for sharp cheddar cheese (at least that we've discovered so far).  She's perfect in her crate and will put herself in there to snooze when I'm teleworking. She's made a lot of progress on the leash and does well on walks, though she's still working on being brave when there are unexpected loud noises.   It's clear that she was neglected and didn't spend much time around people prior to coming to Lucky Dog. For the first several days, she was completely indifferent to me (preferring the company of dogs instead) but she's warming up slowly. She's even come up to me for pets a couple times, though still seems nervous while receiving attention.  Sassy would do well with a patient adopter that's willing to help her come out of her shell.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Story
Meet Brandy!  She is a 9 year old, 10 lb Apricot miniature poodle.  She and her sister Becky have spent their lives in the care of a breeder.  Their working days are now over and they are in a wonderful foster home where they are learning to be pets.  Brandy is reserved but not scared.  You can see her sweetness in her little face and eyes.  She is adjusting well to life in a home and gets along well with everyone.  Brandy loves to be outside taking in all the smells and relaxing in the sun.  She quickly learned the doggie door and can go in and out when she needs to.  This is definitely helping with her house manners.  Brandy cuddles with her sister and is starting to enjoy life.  She has a soft bed to lay in and lots of love coming her way.  She just needs a person or couple that will be patient and help her to adjust to all the new things she will be experiencing.  She is learning that riding in the car is not a bad thing and working on walking on a leash.  (That might take a bit.)  With lots of love and attention Brandy will turn into a loyal and loving companion.  Will that be with you.  Brandy has been spayed and is current on all shots, heartworm negative and microchipped.  To be considered for her forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Brandy is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)August 19, 2024, 8:06 am

Story
This sweet little 8 1/2 lb girl is called Bonnie and her story is so very sad but happening way too many times these days. She is in a very small town of Tennessee and recently lost her mom and the family wanted nothing to do with her precious little 6-year-old poodle called Bonnie. So, what did they do, but put her outside on a tie out and pay no attention to her. She soon became sunburned, matted and full of fleas. She also developed an extreme sadness and fearful nature as she felt the vulnerability of being tied out on a stake. A good neighbor came to her rescue and took her to a groomer to have her shaved down. The groomer was mortified to see the condition that this precious little girl Poodle was in. She decided to not return her to the neighbor and it was in full agreement that she would take over care of this pitiful little girl. Critter Cavalry quickly took her to their vet and she will also be receiving a dental in the next 5 days. You see h mmer throat was swollen from drainage due to bad teeth, but other than that, she passed all health tests such as heartworm and parasites and worms. She will one day be restored to a beautiful soul inside and out. Today she looks fragile and we know her spirit has been beaten down and challenged. But she will survive because we will find someone to love her unconditionally and treat her like the Princess she's always meant to be. If you would like to adopt this precious girl please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 19, 2024, 8:06 am
