Story
The freedom bell rang early for the Red, Woof & Blue Crew, including Liberty!  Liberty, loving called Libby by her foster family, is a 6'ish-year-old, 12-pound poodle.  Liberty was part of an 81-dog breeder bust, and OBG helped five pups to freedom!   Libby enjoys the other pups in the home and tries to play with them!  Awww...Libby will need another sweet, snuggly, playful pup in her forever home.  Libby is still shy but her sparkling personality is emerging with each passing day.  She is working hard on house training and doing well.  Libby's ideal forever home is in the suburbs with a secure fenced yard.  After living a life crated, Libby is seeking a crate-free forever home. To learn more about Liberty, please email adoptme@cockerspanielrescue.com.  She is located in Northern VA.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 18, 2024, 9:24 pm

Story
Ripley is a young adult is ready for a foster/foster to adopt home! Ripley is friendly and outgoing. He loves being around people. He is adjusting well to maneuvering on three legs. He weighs about 10 pounds. He is crate trained. Backstory: Ripey was severely neglected and not groomed in a very long time! Poodles MUST be groomed or their hair will get matted, tangled and tighter. Initially, we thought he was hit by a car, but this was just neglect. His hair cut off the blood circulation to his leg. It was horribly infected, he was dehydrated, emaciated, sepsis had set in and he was scared out of his mind! This little guy had to have his front right leg amputated, but that wont hold him back from living a great life! We named him Ripley -because believe it or not - there was a dog under all that fur! Interested in fostering/fostering to adopt? Submit your online application: https://www.lastchanceanimalrescue.org/adoption-request-form/ If you have been approved to adopt in the past 6-months and are interested in Ripley, please reply to your approval email. Email dogs@lastchanceanimarescue.org with questions.

We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations:  Franklin comes from a commercial breeding operation and has never lived in a home before.  The breeding operation has been shut down, and this adorable pup now has the chance to learn what it's like to be a real dog.    About Franklin:  Franklin hasn't had a great start to life but he hopes his luck is about to change. Franklin has spent his whole life as part of a commercial breeding operation that has now been shut down. Just imagine being in a tiny cage 24 hours a day with little care, no human companionship and only brought out when it was time to be bred.  The Lucky Dog staff have been telling this sweet boy all about what's in store for him - warm beds, gentle cuddles, romps through grassy parks, belly rubs, long walks with his forever family and someone to return his unconditional love. Franklin can’t wait to experience all of those things for the very first time!  Franklin has never lived in a house before, but if you can be a patient teacher, Franklin promises to be a very good boy and learn household manners as quickly as he can.  What My Foster Says About Me:  Franklin was very nervous when he first arrived but, in just a couple of days, he's already begun coming out of his shell. He's happy to see his foster mom, napping at her feet while she teleworks, and has loved playing in the fenced backyard. He's quickly learned the household rules and is working on leash training - it seems he's never walked on one before! Franklin's playful side is beginning to poke through and he's started exploring toys.  His crate is his safe space for observing comings-and-goings, daytime naps and he sleeps in it quietly throughout the night.  With a bit of patience, confidence-building and TLC, Franklin will be a loving companion! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested.    Currently Living at:   DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations: Toby comes from a commercial breeding operation and has never lived in a home before.  The breeding operation has been shut down, and this adorable pup now has the chance to learn what its like to be a real dog. Toby is shy so MUST go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Toby in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   About Toby: Toby hasn't had a great start to life but he hopes his luck is about to change. Toby has spent his whole life as part of a commercial breeding operation that has now been shut down. We’re taking baby steps using positive reinforcement and he's slowly making progress, accepting attention from his foster family more and more.     He likes the freedom of my fenced yard and does his business there usually. He is still working on his house training but is doing well with routine, frequent potty breaks.  Leashes are new to him but he's doing well on pack walks in quiet neighborhoods with the other dogs acting as role models. He loves meeting other dogs when out and about, though he's still wary of their owners.  Toby is very quiet and calm. He’s great in his crate and takes comfort there so it stays open for him throughout the day. He’s not sure about toys, but lights up with tail wag's when my rescues are nearby. He pays close attention to them and is slowly, but surely learning how to be his best dog self. With continued patience, he will learn to trust his people. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Name: Sassy  Best Guess for Breed:  Poodle and Yorkie mix Best Guess for Age:  8 years as of August 2024       SEX:  FemaleApproximate Weight: 6 lbs 6 ounces but underweight Gets Along With:   Sassy loves being around other dogs and lives peacefully with a cat. She has done well around her foster's young niece but we would be cautious about placing Sassy in a home with children under 12 yrs because she frightens easily around loud noises and abrupt movements. Currently Living at:   DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Sassy comes from a commercial breeding operation and has never lived in a home before. The breeding operation has been shut down, and this adorable pup now has the chance to learn what its like to be a real dog. About Sassy:  Sassy hasn't had a great start to life but she hopes her luck is about to change. Sassy has spent her whole life as part of a commercial breeding operation that has now been shut down. Just imagine being in a tiny cage 24 hours a day with little care, no human companionship, only brought out when it was time to be bred and having to have 2 litters every year. Sassy can’t wait to experience all of those things for the very first time! What My Foster Says About Me:  Sassy has been one of the easiest fosters I've had - she's quiet, gets along with the other dogs, doesn't bother the cat, has done well with potty training as long as she gets frequent bathroom breaks, no problematic chewing, etc. She LOVES mealtime but isn't motivated by most dog or human treats, except for sharp cheddar cheese (at least that we've discovered so far).  She's perfect in her crate and will put herself in there to snooze when I'm teleworking. She's made a lot of progress on the leash and does well on walks, though she's still working on being brave when there are unexpected loud noises.   It's clear that she was neglected and didn't spend much time around people prior to coming to Lucky Dog. For the first several days, she was completely indifferent to me (preferring the company of dogs instead) but she's warming up slowly. She's even come up to me for pets a couple times, though still seems nervous while receiving attention.  Sassy would do well with a patient adopter that's willing to help her come out of her shell.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
