Story
Bruce is a fabulous example of a forgiving and loving dog that was abandoned and found himself on the streets of a small town in Tennessee.  He had nowhere to go and some kind people took him in to hold him safely while Critter Cavalry Rescue takes time to find him the best home ever.   He is a Plott hound/Pit mix from what we can see in his markings and his stature.  He is 2 years old and 65 pounds and he is one special dog that is so handsome and is truly a gentle giant!  This boy has everything going for him with great house manners and housebroken as well.  He crate trained and is living in a foster home in an apartment.  He is a medium energy young man that gets along well with the other dog in his foster home.  He loves play time outside, as well as being a snuggly couch potato. Bruce is learning to walk on leash and will need daily practice to stop pulling. He loves to ride in a car, likes carrots and ice cubes. When at home he loves to look out the window and will do that for hours.  Recently he spent some time boarding and was a favorite with the staff and he demonstrated an ability to be very sweet and easy with some of the children of the staff members.  The only NO about Bruce is that he is not fond of cats, so no feline siblings.  He would probably do best with another gentle, playful dog of his same size.  He would be fine being the only dog and always center of attention, too!  Older children over 7 years of age might be best, but only because of his size.  If you are looking for a best friend and/or family member to run, hike, play, explore, and then curl up for some couch time, Bruce is your guy!  He is so beautiful and regal.  He looks around like he is surveying his kingdom and hoping that all is well.  You could really make his life a happy ending if you could consider adopting Bruce.  Please email us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com and ask all the questions that you need and also ask for an adoption form. PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 19, 2024, 2:03 pm

Story
Mooka was a street pup until 9 months old and we've had her since February. We telework so she usually roams the house but when left alone she sleeps and chews toys. She wiggles, wags her tail and sometimes jumps on people when meeting a new person (we're working on getting her to not jump). At her old home she interacted with the cat and it was perfectly fine. For commands, she knows "here!" and "sit." She can be found napping, snuggling, or playing fetch with her toys. She is great with our toddler. We need to rehome Mooka due to a (human) health condition and hope to find Mookie a home with the care she deserves.

Leela absolutely loves to play fetch and is amazing at it. If fetch was an Olympic sport, you would want her on your team! She will be by your side in so many fun activities from playing in the water to hiking up a mountain; she is the sporty sidekick you've been looking for. Need some cuddle time? She will snuggle up right beside you for movie night. When she was young, she was hit by a car, causing permanent damage to her left eye but it causes her no pain and does not require any treatment or medication. You would never know she is blind in her left eye. Leela just wants to be your best friend and aims to please the people in her life. Her reaction to seeing you when you walk through the door will make you feel like the most loved person in the world. Leela would love to finally have a family of her own. Sadly she has been in shelters since mid-2019 and came to us from a municipal shelter in West Virginia. She is an amazing dog with so much to offer and deserves a loving home as much as the next gal. Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.super handsome young boy seeking happily ever after! MAX NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Max        Best Guess for Breed: Catahoula Leopard dog and Australian shepherd mix Best Guess for Age:  3 years as of July 2024         SEX:   Male   Approximate Weight:  42 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested   Currently Living at:  Shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to escape!   Max is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this handsome guy landed in the shelter. He's eager to once again have his own humans to trot alongside on sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on his wish list as well. Shelter staff have tested him with other dogs both on- and off-leash and say he did well with them; he is just friendly towards them.    What Max wants most of all is to know where he belongs, to be safe and loved and under his own roof. In exchange he has so much to offer - adoring gazes, happy tail wags, and loyal companionship. His adopters gotta be prepared for one thing though - they are likely to hear 'oh that dog is so good looking!' a lot. If you're up for that attention and think Max is the one for you - see below for how to apply! What My South Carolina Shelter Foster Says About Me:   Max is a wonderful and playful dog! He will match your energy. If you want to play, he'll try to play too.  If you want to relax, he will lay right next to you and fall asleep! He loves his toys and cuddling. He loves to go on walks and it's a good way for him to get his energy out before bed. We are working on his potty training, taking him out every hour, and it's helping him learn to not go in the house. We are also working on commands such as 'down' for 'lay down' and he's learning well.  In terms of crate training, he is making great progress! He's now calming himself down and staying in it overnight. He doesn't have potty accidents in the crate.  Our friends had their dog over who was smaller than Max and he handled it very well. He is very dog friendly. My friend's dog isn't as much but Max's temperament stayed calm. He is such a good boy.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. He is a quiet fella who loves humans and dogs alike. This affectionate boy has been gentle with the children he's met on walks, wagging his tail to happily ask for pets. Ronnie loves his walks, whether it's 20 minutes or 5 miles, he's game for both! When not walking, he enjoys sniffing treats out of the snuffle mat. Ronnie seems to have figured out house training and is great in his crate, settling down quickly. His foster human trusts him to roam around the house alone, as he can be left unsupervised without anything chewed up! When you come home, he'll bask in your attention and happily cuddle on the couch. Are you looking for a calm, gentle dog? Apply today to see if Ronnie is the one for you! Story
Rye is searching for her forever home as the only animal so that she can soak up all the attention from her humans! RYE'S STORY FROM OUR DIRECTOR: Rye was brought up to the DMV Region from a Texas shelter in 2020. I was working for another rescue at the time, running the transport/foster program, and offloaded her myself when she arrived. She fit into the palm of my hand she was so small and only a few weeks old. She was adopted immediately, incorrectly labeled as a chihuahua mix. Unfortunately, 7 months later, her family returned her due to the combination of the pandemic and how "big" she got (she's only 40 lbs but they were expecting an 8 lb Chi-Mix!). Unfortunately from there, Rye was bounced around from foster to foster and boarding facilities until 2021 when the previous rescue felt it was best to euthanize her. I couldn't let that happen so I adopted her with the intention of finding her a home! I renamed her to Rye (named for the kind of whiskey) and started working on training with her. She was our first intake when I co-founded Laila's Legacy in 2023 and we've been working to find her a home since then. RYE IN THE HOME / HER PERFECT FIT: Rye has the funniest personality. She's got energy, bounciness, and is so inquisitive. She's also insanely smart. The latter is a blessing and a curse because she learns training so quickly, has great recall (although I've never allowed her to be off-leash just long-lines for hikes/walks), and learned leash walking skills very quickly. On the flip side, she needs a lot of mental stimulation to keep that big brain happy! I've found it really can be a mix of things to do that though - sitting outside on the stoop to people watch from my house, sitting in a park with her practicing neutrality (and getting treats of course) while I read, practicing all her tricks, working on recall on a long-line, playing tug/fetch, brain games and puzzle toys, you name it. Anyone that is excited to go on walks and spend time with their dog - have a companion - will love Rye. She just wants to hang with her humans and get some mental stimulation while she does it. In late 2021, Rye started urinating in her crate. An odd behavior because she's very potty trained and crate trained. In early 2022 she had a seizure and it was then we discovered she was having mini-seizures causing her to urinate in her crate. Unfortunately, they do still occasionally happen but she takes a once daily med called Keppra which is easy to get from Chewy and she LOVES peanut butter so she takes it every day without issue. I've seen the crate urination drastically reduce and when I was working from home full-time it was non existent because she was hanging with me outside of the crate so much. Rye's intelligence comes from her breed - likely Catahoula or some sort of herding breed. That's where her prey drive comes from as well so she'd prefer a home without cats! When it comes to her relationship with dogs, she loves to play. She'll play with mine and have a grand ol' time romping around with them. Because of her herding tendencies she's been muzzle trained as well for playing and has a cute bright pink muzzle for when it's needed and she wears it with ~style~. In the home, Rye will guard her items from other dogs. This could include food, toys, bed, etc. so for her sake we recommend she not go to a home with dogs in it. But honestly, that will also be a win-win because she LOVES her humans so fiercely and wants to be your companion that it'll let her have all the one-on-one time she and her future owner will love. Rye has been through a training program and her trainer loves her. Rye's future forever family will be connected with that trainer for a "Rye 101 Course" on her training and are highly encouraged to do more sessions and continue to build her education! While I adore Rye with my whole heart, and have been honored to spend so much time with her, it's time for this sweet gal to find her forever home and get OUT of the rescue world! She deserves to be the spoiled queen she wants to be and I can' t wait to see that for her! Please check out her video at here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Oz8dKkj64 ------------ Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue does not guarantee that any dog is housebroken nor crate trained. We strive to provide accurate information on all of our animals however, we are unable to guarantee an animal's breed, size, health, behavior, temperament, or any other conditions. Our adoption fees are not inclusive of all vetting / medical care, food, supplies and/or training costs.
