Story
Meet Hunter!
Hunter is a 9-10-year-old, 11-pound male Shih Tzu mix from New York City. This little guy is as sweet as can be—both in personality and (quite literally) in health! Hunter has diabetes, which requires daily insulin injections. While managing his condition does require some TLC, he’s a spry, loving pup who will repay your care with endless affection and joy.
Why a Multi-Person Household is IdealHunter’s diabetes management is straightforward but benefits from having an extra set of hands during his insulin injections. A multi-person home would be especially helpful, making his care even smoother. That said, a dedicated solo caregiver with the time and patience to give him his injections would also be just fine!
Hunter’s PersonalityHunter has adjusted beautifully to city life with his foster family. He’s a joyful, outgoing little guy who loves snuggling, going for walks, and playing with his toys. He’s curious, brave, and trots enthusiastically on leash, though he’s still working on perfecting his leash skills.
At HomeHunter has been doing well with house training and seems to thrive with a consistent routine. During the day, he’s content in his pen while his foster works. He may initially exhibit brief separation anxiety but quickly settles down and relaxes. He’s a cozy companion and is happiest curled up with his favorite cow plushie or snuggling with his foster family.
Social ButterflyHunter is fantastic with people of all ages, including children. He loves meeting new people and approaches them enthusiastically for attention. He’s equally friendly with other dogs, doing well with his foster brother and eagerly greeting small and medium-sized pups on walks. While he may bark at larger dogs, it’s out of excitement, not aggression.
Ideal HomeHunter is flexible and could thrive in either a low-key or active household. He enjoys both downtime and moments of activity, making him a great fit for many types of families. Whether as a solo dog or alongside a small-to-medium canine companion, Hunter’s sweet, adaptable nature will shine.
Hunter has lots of love to give and is eager to share it with his forever family. If you’re looking for a joyful, affectionate companion and are ready to support his manageable medical needs, Hunter is ready to fill your home with love and happiness!

To apply for Hunter, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the animal is on our website, they are still available.
