Story
First he's sour, then he's sweet. Much like a sour patch kid, Oscar is the definition of a rascal. The 13-pound, 7-year-old pup was surrendered to Pets Alive because he has one issue: He's a biter! While someone attempted to adopt Oscar recently, he just wasn't having it. So alas, this boy is back at the shelter, and we're working on training to determine his triggers. Given his selective attitude, Oscar is best suited for a dog-savvy home without children.

Story
Paisley’s Backstory: Paisley was taken into an overcrowded animal control facility where they euthanize due to lack of space. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to get her out safely to give her a second chance at life. Paisley was loved by someone at some point in life, but she was left as a stray and found neglected. She had never been spayed. Breed and Hair Notes: Paisley has hair and not fur. She is a beautiful blend of Shih Tzu and possibly Lhasa Apso. Perhaps another breed is represented as well? Whatever the blend, she is a Saint. She has a beautiful blend of brown and white hair. She has been shaved, but it is already starting to grow out into a lovely fluff. She will have gorgeous long hair if you want it to grow out. PLEASE NOTE: Paisley’s hair will grow indefinitely, and she will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Get to Know Paisley: Age: 2 Weight: 18.5 pounds Spayed: yes Current Vaccines and Tests: Rabies vaccine: yes Distemper vaccine: yes Bordetella vaccine: yes Flea and tick prevention: yes Heartworm test: yes, negative De-wormer treatment: yes Personality: Paisley is all love. All she’d like to do is cuddle up in your lap and fall asleep on her back. She’s so eager to stay in a person’s lap that she’ll wrap her front legs around your arm and won’t let go. It seems she is trying to make up for lost time, so eager to love and be loved. Even though she loves being hugged and cuddled, she has youthful energy and a love for life! She loves to run about in the garden, and we can see her being an excellent walking companion. Potty routine: Paisley is great about going on potty pads indoors at the sanctuary. She also goes outside whenever we take her out. To get her settled into your routine and direction for where to go potty, you’ll need to keep her in a designated place with potty pads initially or take her out every hour initially if you just want her to potty outside. This will reinforce where you want her to go. Personality: Paisley is so full of love and life. She greets every human with a tail wag, and she wants to interact with everyone. She is not afraid of any volunteer so far and will approach all humans who show her kindness and respect. She is sweet, loving, and so easy to hug. TO VIEW A VIDEO OF PAISLEY, VISIT OUR VIMEO PAGE: https://vimeo.com/1043788700?share=copy What Paisley needs in her lifetime family. Is it you? Routine and Training Paisley’s goal in life is to be by her person’s side during the day and sleep next to them at night. With this in mind, we know she will be happiest in a home where her people are there most of the time. Paisley is the kind of girl who would enjoy coming along with you as you run errands, too. If you’re looking for a sidekick in all things, she’s up for it! Paisley would be okay as an only dog in a home, provided she could meet dog friends nearby often. However, we see Paisley love the company of other dogs, and she plays and wrestles a lot with the other younger fosters here in our sanctuary. If you need to be gone for a few hours every day, having other respectful dogs who like to play in the home would be great for her. Love and Commitment At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need. Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application! Requested adoption donation fee is a minimum of $650. This is to partly cover her medical expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to give her a second chance at life.

Story
Meet Lady.... What a great Companion Lady was recently surrendered to us as a Retired Breeder Mom. That means, she spent her life as a breeding machine for profit at a puppy mill. We take alot of retired moms from these mills to give them a better life. They typically come in broken, our team works really hard to get them settled and to learn how to be a " normal " dog. These are adults that never lived inside a home. Lady is a 7 year old female Shihtzu. She currently weighs 12 pounds. She is considered fully hypoallergenic. Lady is nervous and will do better in a quieter home where she can adjust on her time. She is fine with other dogs, as long as they give her some space. The puppies that she is fostered with due annoy her ( you can't blame her ) Lady will be spayed and also receive a dental in Feb. We are looking to adopt her or do a Foster to Adopt with her. We would need her back in the Butler area for that spay and dental appointment She is using a wee wee pad and the outdoors for potty training. Being fostered in Butler NJ Send an email to Onepawatatimerescue@gmail.com and request an application Adoption fee is $400 We adopt in the Tri State Area ONLY especially because we need her back for that vet appointment. Finalizing the adoption will take place after her spay appointment

Story
Max is a sweet senior Shih tzu looking for a loving home. He came to us very matted, obese, and with a painful chronic ear infection, as a result of a bleeding mass in his ear. The tumor is benign, but he needs surgery to remove his ear canal in order to fully remove the mass. We are looking for a foster or adoptive home for him to recover from his surgery out of the shelter environment ideally. He's been getting along with other small dogs at the shelter and is a social guy who wants to be with people as much as possible. He's already lost a few pounds with his diet (he came in at a whopping 27!) and is still working hard to get down to a healthy weight. Please submit a foster or adoption application to bring Max home Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Age: 9yrs 1mths 3wks

Story
Update 12/26/22: Our little grinch Mad Max had a lot to be grumpy about this holiday season. He has just passed his 1 year anniversary with our rescue, which meant an annual vet visit, shots updated, bloodwork… he was displeased 😡 His owners had said he was about 4 years old, but he’s definitely more at the senior stage of his life according to his recheck this week, at least 7-8 years old. Since they couldn’t seem to keep him from constantly running loose and playing in traffic, it’s not surprising they couldn’t count either 🤦‍♀️ He is still an angry little mad man at times but has mellowed quite a bit- between his age and low-stress low-expectation lifestyle he’s been living, maybe he will actually be a nice dog by the time he’s a teenager. If you respect his space and let him be himself he’s actually pretty pleasant and easy to live with, has an understanding with his other weird bad boy dog friends, and appreciates a stable routine. Definitely no children and a calmer adult home, he’s looking for someone who understands him and will work to build a bond of mutual respect, maybe even love one day. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Mad Max in Northern NJ Meet Mad Max! He came to us with a bit of a reputation… a multiple time running-at-large offender whose owner finally decided to just not pick him back up from the shelter instead of just getting him neutered and being more careful to keep him at home 🤦‍♀️. He was a feisty guy at the shelter with a big personality, aloof with strangers, protective of his food, and not liking some handling. In other words a normal Lhasa type personality and Second Chance demon dog🤷‍♀️. Here he’s not as bad as expected, respectful of the dogs and has warmed up and been sweet and avoidant of confrontation for the most part, definitely no Ray or even Prancer. He seemed to actually be very accustomed and comfortable with a basket muzzle for grooming and vetting which is great… without the muzzle he tried tasting the clippers 😖 but as soon as the muzzle was on he immediately flopped down and calmly allowed us to shave him. Rated R for sure, no kids and a respectful adult home that knows when to give him space and give him attention on his terms. Another dog or a few dogs to live with seem to help balance him, and he so far seems to be pretty housebroken as well as wee wee pads if needed. Mad Max is approximately 4 years old and we think a Lhasa and/or Shih Tzu mix, 15lbs full grown, and is neutered and updated on shots. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet him Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we can schedule socially distant appointments with a specific dog outdoors at our vet’s office: VCA Morris Plains Animal Hospital 3009 Rt 10 East Morris Plains (Denville on GPS) NJ 07950 Now is the perfect time to open your home to a needy dog! Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
