Story
Walker is a two-year-old, 50-pound purebred Walker hound who was found stray before Thanksgiving and likely dumped by his owner. He is a very nice dog that seems to be housetrained. Walker is calm and good with other dogs, not a big barker like most hounds, and we think he would be a wonderful addition to any home. If you’d like to foster or adopt Walker, please go to www.atlantalabrescue.com and apply. ##2253446##

Story
Beatrice just turned three, and we were curious to learn about her breed mix. Here’s what we discovered: 66% Treeing Walker Coonhound 10% Plott Hound 4% Redbone Coonhound 3% Bluetick Coonhound 2% American Foxhound You can check out more details about her breed mix here: Beatrice's Wisdom Panel . Now, let me tell you why Beatrice is so special. She is a sweet, loving, and smart girl who adores people and other dogs. Whenever she sees a new face—human or canine—her tail wags with excitement. She’s incredibly social and loves to make new friends. However, Beatrice does have a high prey drive, so a home without small animals, including cats and small dogs, would be best. Her enthusiasm for food also makes her a bit too rambunctious for homes with very young children, as she may accidentally knock them over in her excitement. At around 40 pounds, Beatrice is strong and agile. As a hound, her hunting instincts are sharp—especially when it comes to raccoons. She has even taken down a raccoon her size without a scratch! Beatrice’s story is one of resilience. This beautiful brindle girl was abandoned on a road in Arkansas while pregnant, and sadly, her litter didn’t survive. After fending for herself, she thought she’d found a home, only to be abandoned again. Thankfully, a local rescue stepped in, and Beatrice made her way to Atlanta, where she’s hoping to find her true forever family. What makes Beatrice truly special are her soulful eyes, her stunning coat, and her eagerness to please. She’s a social butterfly who loves other dogs, enjoys playtime, and has a deep desire to bond with a person she can call her own. She’s a cuddler, happy to snuggle up and relax next to you, but she’s also a true hound who would love to accompany you on outdoor adventures. If you’re a hunter, she’d be thrilled to join you—just be sure to keep a tracker on her because once she picks up a scent, she’s off! Because of her strong hunting instincts, a home with a fenced yard would be ideal to give her space to run while staying safe. Beatrice is 100% potty trained and is perfectly calm indoors as long as she gets her daily walk. A 30-minute walk is usually enough to keep her content and relaxed, but without that exercise, she might get a bit antsy. If you’re looking for a beautiful, loyal companion to share your life with—whether it’s watching TV on the couch or exploring the outdoors, Beatrice Beasley could be the perfect match. She’s a special girl, and I tell her that every day. My biggest hope is that she finds someone who will see just how special she is and give her the loving home she deserves. Could that someone be you? Story
A SWEET LOVE BUG:  Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 25 lbs. Hi, my name is Jimmy!  Mostly Mutts rescued me from animal control, and I am so grateful for the love and good care I’ve been receiving – both at the shelter and in some recent foster homes.  I’m now ready to meet my new furever family, and that makes me super happy! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I liked the dogs in my previous foster home and would engage them in play, so if you have a nice doggie at home, let’s meet! / I had no reaction to the cat in one of my former foster homes, so I may become friends with a dog-friendly kitty. / In my former foster home, I did well with the 3- and 6-year-olds that lived there as well as the teen in another foster home.  I do jump for attention, so best no toddlers that I may accidentally bump over and - of course, let’s meet!    • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  The volunteers say I am ‘the cutest beagle that there ever was’.  I was pretty scared when I first arrived at the shelter, but – true to my curious beagle nature,  I started to come out of my shell when I had something to sniff.   I’m a gentle soul with a calm and very sweet demeanor.  I am a bit shy, but I am also an affectionate love bug, so I don’t stay shy too long. An active chewer, you’ll want to have chew toys available and put away anything I could get into mischief with by chewing.  I’m a social guy and want to be where my people are. I’ve been pretty quiet other than when I saw myself in a mirror – who is that and where did they come from? / My energy level is 4-6, though higher when it’s playtime. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I will be learning lots of great commands with my trainer.  Check back soon to see my progress. I was unfamiliar with stairs in one of my foster homes, so I may need to learn those in my new home. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts.  In my foster home, I cried the first night but settled in better after that, though it’s not my favorite place to spend a lot of time in.  Because of my love for chewing on things, it’s best that I’m crated when you are not with me. / Other than a couple of accidents in my crate, my potty habits have been good on a consistent schedule, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love being near my people - giving and receiving affection.  Being held and getting those great belly rubs – they are a mandatory part of my cuddle sessions!  I enjoy playing with people and toys alike, so let’s have lots of fun play sessions together and lots of toys and appropriate things for me to chew on.  Chewing is a favorite pastime and – if left alone, I may become anxious and chew whatever is available, so be mindful of items in my environment that you don’t want to fall victim to my chewing. / I am not fan of cold weather like lots of dogs and baths aren’t my favorite thing either.  I sometimes startle at unfamiliar household noises, but I’m sure I’ll get used to the noises in my new home given a little time. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I am looking for a great home with a loving family!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  January 24, 2025, 5:57 am
