**I am currently being housed at our New York Ave location. Come meet me at 1201 New York Avenue NE every day from 12pm-7pm- or visit humanerescuealliance.org/how-to-adopt to learn more.No time to come to the shelter? Meet me virtually during our open hours!Note that wait time may vary for virtual meet and greets, and we require same day pick up if you decide to adopt: https://waitwhile.com/locations/hra-nyawelcomestatio/r/welcome Do you like big, stoic, brave doggies? If you do, Alaska is waiting for you! This beauty queen is one of those breeds (Akita) that has it all. Alaska is a sturdy miss with a flair for turning heads. She is that gorgeous! She was found as a stray and like many lost dogs, she needed time to adjust. We worked with this girl- who just so happens to be very food motivated- and she is now ready for the next chapter of her life. She is a very sweet girl who has found her inner bounce- yes, she has an adorable little prancing walk that is going to make you smile. And we even caught her once chasing a butterfly! Ready for a busy pup that needs a job and lots of activities? Alaska is calling you! PS- Alaska is a shedding machine so keep that dog hairbrush as well as your vacuum cleaner on hand!

Story
Akai camd from a shelter in NC.  Here is what the shelter said about her: 'This beautiful girl is Akaie. She has been fostered out twice to potential adopters from our shelter but returned both times, as neither potential adopter was familiar with the breed and she was “too much” for them. There was no mention of aggression or anything dealing with behavior, just that she was too strong for one’s wife to walk while he is at work and then the second foster read information on the breed and decided she was not a match for her. We would love to find an Akita Rescue that could pull her from our facility and find the right family for her. ' The shelter workers adored her. Here is what we know about her from her time with us.  She is great with people.  Very particular about what dogs she likes.  Has a fairly high prey drive, so no small dogs or cats. She is at our kennel.  As with all Akitas, she does not like to potty in her run.  Update: Akai has been in a foster home for about 3 weeks. She’s been to the groomers and the vet, no issues with anyone there. She will sit, down and dance when you ask to. She mostly walks well with minor corrections.  She is housebroken and the foster says she is a gem. She has been to the foster’s place of business (store), and has been okay with most of the customers.  She is not crazy about men in baseball caps. A contractor waring a hat met her and when he held out his hand for her to sniff, she growled.  Once he removed his hat, she was fine. One man walked into the store and she disliked him so much she had to be out of the store.Sh barked intensely at him.  Akai needs a home with some Akita experience. Story
Mama Kiki and her 2 week old puppies luckily landed in the shelter as strays.  The shelter contacted rescue, we were lucky to find a temporary foster and then regular foster home for them.  She will be available once her puppies are weaned and she is spayed.  Both foster homes say she is very sweet and food oriented.  She was bone thin when she came to us, probably having been in poor shape before her pregnancy.  Watch her blossom once she is no longer feeding her pups. The oicture of her wwith the white Akita is her meeting and interacting with him, the resident dog at the foster home.See more pix and  video of mom and her pups at https://www.facebook.com/akitarescue.org/  Ashoka and Omega have applications on them.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 12, 2024, 5:22 pm

Story
ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13787Hi! My name is Tupelo Honey and I'm thought to be a husky mix about 2 years old and 45 lbs. I have beautiful blue eyes, a white coat and perky ears so I guess that makes me pretty attractive don't you think? I've done well meeting people and other dogs and appear to be house trained as I haven't had any accidents since I arrived. I enjoy going for walks and playing with toys, especially balls. I can get excited sometimes so I will need to continue my leash training. Foster dad says when I get treats on the walk I stay right by his side so the way to my training is definitely through my tummy! Foster mom says I'm just a happy girl and always have a smile on my face.I'm microchipped and up to date on my vaccines and monthly preventatives. I will be spayed on August 20th and available to go home with my new family a few days after that. This pet is expected to arrive at an Operation Paws for Homes Foster Home soon. If you are interested in adoption, please submit your application so that you may be pre-approved prior to arrival. All pets must be granted a Health Certificate in order to cross state lines and come to the rescue. Obtaining the health certificate is largely dependent on veterinary resources at the originating animal shelter so some pets may not arrive as planned.

Story
ADOPT ME ONLINE: https://ophrescue.org/dogs/13788Hi!My name is Wildfire and I’m part of the transport coming to OPH on 8/16/24. I am about 2 years old and around 50 pounds. I’m guessed to be a husky/lab mix. The shelter originally thought I may be pregnant- RUDE! I'm not going to be a teen mom, I'm just a little chubby! They still decided to double check with an ultrasound- which confirmed what i already knew: I am not pregnant! I just arrived, but here is what foster mom is saying about me already:- I am very friendly and outgoing. I love getting my butt scratched and getting attention from all the humans. - I get along well with other dogs in my foster home (three total ranging from 40lbs to 65lbs, both male and female).- I don't love going in my crate (I may need a little push) but I'm silent while in it. I settle right down and go to sleep- I love playing with toys. I absolutely love playing fetch and will bring the ball right back to you. I am a stuffed animal shredder, so hopefully you don't mind a little fluff when I tear toys apart. - I ride well in the car- I walk great on a leash and love going for walks. I like to greet everyone as I walk by. - I appear to be house broken in my foster home. I haven't had any accidents. - I have pretty good house manners. I only play or chew on things I'm allowed to.I can't wait to get to my forever home! Is that with you? Apply to adopt me today! This cuteness won’t be available for long! This pet is expected to arrive at an Operation Paws for Homes Foster Home soon.
