Story
Hi, my name is Astro. I'm a happy dog and I love everyone I meet. I'm still a puppy around 10 month old and I'm an American Bully mix. I love other dogs but I'm still learning how to play and I am too much for small dogs. If you have a large dog at home, you can bring them by to meet me during the Animal Viewing Hours below. I need the other dog to correct me and remind me when I'm being too much. I love to run around a fenced yard and I entertain myself pretending to be Superman so I can feel the wind blowing my ears when I run. My name is Astro and I'm ready for a someone to take me home who will continue my training at home. I'm very smart and if you are dog savvy and firm, I listen well. I'm full of energy, so lets go explore together. After I get good exercise, I love a good belly rub and I will lay with you. I've grown up around young kids, and I'm pretty good with them and their antics. So, why should you adopt me? Well, I'm fun, friendly, and I promise to make every day an adventure.Applications are accepted in person at the shelter after you visit this pet out of their cage. Georgie is a 4-year-old sweetheart who has never met a stranger—everyone who meets him instantly falls in love! He’s a happy, well-mannered pup who gets along beautifully with dogs and cats alike (he’s currently sharing his foster home with 5 dogs and 6 cats!). Originally from a rural shelter in NC, Georgie is now thriving in foster care and ready to find his forever home. He’s healthy, has great recall, and is always eager to be by your side. Whether it’s playtime, cuddle time, or just hanging out, Georgie is simply a really good boy looking for a family to love him back. ****GEORGIE IS CURRENTLY FOSTERED IN MD, BUT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT OUT OF STATE. DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Atlas is a bully mix, is 1yr & 3mos old, weighs 65lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped.  Atlas's guardian adds:   "Atlas is a fun and friendly dog.  He loves to go on walks, play tug, and practice his obedience training.  Out in the yard he may play fetch - after checking the perimeter to keep you safe from squirrels and bunnies!  After some exercise he is happy to settle down and chew a Nylabone or snuggle with his people.  He is equally happy at home on your couch or in his crate.  But he is very sociable without being a pest, so if you would like company at a dog-friendly cafe or other outing, he would much rather come along for the fun!   Atlas observes routines and learns very quickly, so he adapts to new environments well.  He would love to continue attending a doggy daycare or training classes so he can show off his smarts and continue his good manners with other dogs.   Atlas is either loose in the house during the day, or in his crate, depending on what we are doing.  At night, he sleeps in his room in a portion of the basement so the cats can be loose in the house at night.  He's fine during car rides, as he's excited at first but will settle in the back seat or in the back of an SUV.  Atlas has been attending a day training daycare at Leash Free Living in Millersville MD.  He knows all basic obedience, will sit and wait for food or to go through doors.  He is a very quick learner and takes correction well.  He is working on loose leash walking using a prong collar.  Atlas is currently eating Purina Sensitive Stomach and Skin kibble - salmon based.  Bullies tend toward allergies and chicken allergies, so we started him on this to prevent any issues." Atlas's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Atlas is a perfect boy in all ways but one - he cannot live with cats or other small animals.  He came to BARCS as a stray, so his background with cats was unknown.  We, along with a trainer, have determined that his prey drive is too strong to live with our cats." Atlas's guardian offers a brief a medical history: "Atlas was on anxiety meds at the BARCS shelter, but once he went to a foster and then to us, he has not needed them." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding children:  Since Atlas hasn't lived with or otherwise been around children, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating... "He has not interacted with children that we have seen, but based on his size, strength and young energy, I think he would be a bit too much for kids." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Atlas has lived with dogs, so his guardian recommends his living with dogs, stating... "Atlas is good with dogs his own size and strength.  He is not reactive.  He should not be a dog park dog because he needs proper introductions, but he is fine out and about for walks, restaurant patios, etc where other dogs are.  He also works well in his training and play group at Leash Free Living." Atlas's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Atlas lives with cats, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "No cats.  Strong prey drive.  He fixates on them and shows signs of stalking". Atlas's guardian describes him as: Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Atlas's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Atlas would be fine as an only dog, but he also enjoys having a playmate of his own size and 'rough and rowdy' play style.  A fenced yard where he can wander and run would be best.  He needs a good play session or long walk a few times a day, but otherwise is quiet and settled in the house.  He is still young, so he needs to burn that puppyish energy!  Atlas needs an experienced owner who can provide structure, routine, and exercise as well as reinforce the great start he has in training." Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Marshmallow is 1-1/2yo, weighs 66lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccinations, and is microchipped.  Marshmallow's guardian adds:   "We found marshmallow running down a busy street.  After sitting with him at for a few hours, he finally trusted us enough to follow us into a garage, where we contacted an organization who came and put him through rehabilitative training.  Once he was ready for adoption, we, welcomed him into our home, which at the time had three dogs.  All was well until we had to put our oldest dog down.  A week later, I went out of town, my husband forgot to feed the dogs and without the alpha the two dogs got into a fight.   We contacted the rescue we got Marshmallow from, per our contract, however, they did not have the ability to house him.  Said we had to pay an outrageous amount to send him back to rehabilitation, or to euthanize him.  They went as far as to schedule a euthanasia appointment for us that evening. He is an amazing dog and does not deserve euthanasia because of a fight that is largely, our fault." Marshmallow walks perfectly on leash, sit, drop it.  Currently working on basic commands.  He's alone 3 hours per day at home and is with me or kept in the crate when I'm gone.  He dislikes/fears leaf blower and strangers in our bedroom.  He sleeps in his crate at night; is great during car rides. Marshmallow's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  A recent fight between Marshmallow and the other resident dog over food on the floor resulted in sutures to the resident dog.  Marshmallow's guardian adds:  "We have two small children and so food is all over the place in our house and we have to guarantee their safety above all." Marshmallow's guardian offers a brief a medical history:  "Past hookworm, giardia, and lyme." Lunge/Bite/Attack Incident:  On 6 August 2024, Marshmallow lunged/attacked and bit the other family dogs; the bite broke the skin; animal control was not involved; medical treatment was sought.  Marshmallow's guardian explains:   "All was well until we had to put our oldest dog down.  A week later, I went out of town, my husband forgot to feed the dogs and without the alpha the two dogs got into a fight.  While both gotten bites, Marshmallow injured the other dog requiring emergency care.  The dogs were fighting over food.  It began as a scuffle, however, was allowed to go on much longer than should have been, as the accompanying family member was not equipped to deal with it, did not know how to break it up, so it went on much longer than it should have.  The other dog had seven or eight stitches." Marshmallow's guardian states the following regarding children:  Since Marshmallow lives with children, ages 2 & 4, his guardian recommends his living with children, stating "He is curious but gentle". Marshmallow's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Although Marshmallow has lived with multiple dogs, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "He is fine with dogs outside the house but based on our incident it would be best to make him a solo dog". Marshmallow's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Since Marshmallow hasn't lived with nor otherwise been around, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "Cats can be unpredictable instigators and I can't say that Marshmallow would've engage if provoked". Marshmallow's guardian describes him as: Very active Couch potato Quiet Playful Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Always at your side House-Trained Crate-Trained Marshmallow's guardian describes him ideal future home: "Marshmallow would be best placed with an experienced dog owner, preferably someone who has owned bullies or stubborn dogs before.  He should be with someone who is active, and doesn’t mind being followed around all the time. He loves to play ball in the backyard, so a fence would be ideal." Rehoming Fee:  None Location:  Potomac, MD***** ADOPTION PROCESS  1. Meet Mikey – The Sweet & Calm Terrier Mix Looking for a Home! Mikey is a 2-year-old, 46-pound Terrier/Pit Bull mix with a heart full of love and a personality that shines. This sweet boy has mastered basic commands like "sit," "down," and "shake," and while he still needs a bit more training, he's eager to learn and please. Mikey is crate-trained and loves to snuggle, showing his affectionate nature to anyone who gives him attention. Mikey would do best as the only dog in the home or with careful separation from other pets for now. He’s still learning to share his toys and treats, so a patient family willing to work on this with him will help him thrive. Though protective of his belongings, Mikey’s sweet and friendly demeanor suggests this can be trained with time and positive reinforcement. This calm boy is a dream to walk—quiet, easy to leash up, and undisturbed by barking dogs in their kennels. On walks, Mikey enjoys taking in the world around him, smelling the grass, and leaning in for some love and affection. He has shown good body language during brief meetings with other dogs and appears to be dog-friendly, though proper introductions are always recommended. If you're looking for a laid-back, loyal companion, Mikey could be the perfect fit for your family. He’s got so much love to give and will make a wonderful addition to the right home! Interested in fostering or adopting Mikey? Don’t forget, rescues are there to support you with vet bills, training, and appointments. You’ll never be alone on this journey!
