Story
ABOUT SNOWBALL This goofy girl is a 5.5-year-old mix breed with lots of personality! Snowball came to HAP when her previous owners could no longer care for her. Understandably, adjusting to shelter life after being a home has been a challenge for her. Snowball is not a huge fan of other dogs, which only makes the shelter environment even more stressful for her. However, she LOVES making human friends and is quite the affectionate girl. When visitors walk through, Snowball gets so excited to make new friends! She has a tendency to tap her paws on her kennel door, which we know is just her way saying "take me out and love me", but many adopters overlook her as being too much. To give Snowball more breaks from her kennel, she has participated in our Doggy Day Out program! Here's what our volunteers have to say about her: "Snowball was an absolute delight today! She warmed up to us super quick and was super gentle. We took her to Lum's Pond and she did amazingly well on the trail. She never pulled on the leash, followed the trail well, and liked to sniff the sides of the trail. She quickly realized she could trust us and would jump up on our laps when we sat down to rest. She wasn't a fan of other dogs, but was quick to forget about them. She walked 5 miles and was only starting to get tired! She is such a great dog: super gentle, affectionate, and leash trained!" - Brian "Today, I took Snowball out and she was so sweet!! All she wanted to do was snuggle and lay with us! She was so well-behaved but a little bit nervous walking by the roads. We took a walk around campus and then napped on the couch. We loved having her so much!" - Olivia "Had a lovely day out with Miss Snowball. She is such a nice and well-mannered girl! She rode in the car very well and kept a great pace while walking together. Even when she stopped to sniff stuff for super long, she responded well to a light tug on the leash to get her back on track. Nothing broke her stride or bothered her (except when we saw another dog across the street), she manages hearing and seeing new things very well! When we took a break towards the end of our walk, she sat right between my legs and put her head on my lap for a rest" - Anna "Chilly 3 mile walk this morning with Snowball at Delcastle park! She’s such a cuddle bug - so sweet, so gentle, didn’t pull on the leash once! Barked a few times at some dogs and birds, but overall she was great - tail going the whole time! Also, she is perfect in the car. Had to help her get into my jeep at first but on the way back she hopped in no problem! What a gem!" - Taylor If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
ABOUT TROUBLE Does your vacuum need replacing? We've got just the guy! Trouble is a 3-year-old big, bully mix who loves life! Trouble came to HAP when his owners could no longer have a dog. Contrary to his name, he is a sweet and snuggly guy. We quickly learned this guy is curious, playful, and such a lover boy at heart. Trouble has grown quite the reputation at the shelter, as he is quick to make sure no treats are left behind anywhere. He is super food-motivated, knows basic commands, appears house-trained, and walks well with a harness. Trouble is still working on some basic big dog manners, as he is convinced he's no bigger than a chihuahua. He would make the perfect coach potato and loves entertaining himself with bones. Trouble has also enjoyed participating in our Doggy Day Out program. Here's what his friends have to say about their day with him: "I took this handsome beefcake, Trouble, out yesterday! He enjoyed being in the car, jumped right in, snout out the window. He was a bit overzealous when taking treats but responded well to redirection, it’s very clear he’s not aggressive, just learning manners. My partner joined us for a walk and Trouble was very friendly towards him, as well as someone who stopped us while walking to ask to pet him. We even ran into a neighborhood stray dog running around and trouble had zero reaction and was happy to be redirected back down the street. On the way back i got him a cheeseburger which he seemed pretty thrilled about. He’s so friendly, cuddly and seems to get along with everyone, i hope he catches somebody’s eye soon!" - Lex "Today I did a DDO with this big boy, Trouble! Contrary to his name, he was an absolute angel. He loved being out of the shelter and meeting people. Our first stop was Petsmart, where he insisted on going up and down every isle. Then we went to Home Depot where Trouble got a lot of treats, rubs, and attention from staff and customers alike! He adored all the attention! Our next stop was Costco where we shared a hot dog and topped it off with a pup cup from Starbucks! Trouble loves to see what is going on and help you drive because he had his little paw on my shoulder the entire time!" - Kaitlin If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
ABOUT BEBE This beautiful brindle girl is our 3-year-old terrier mix, Bebe! She came to HAP when her owners were no longer able to have pets. You may recognize her face, as Bebe quite literally broke out of the shelter shortly after she arrived. While you may be wondering how this happened, we found out later that this was not the first time miss Bebe has escaped somewhere! After nearly a month on the move and avoiding all people, Bebe was spotted a few miles away, sharing food with a feral cat colony. We were able to safely return her to the shelter and she has been a totally different dog! When she was missing, our whole team spent time exploring woods, parking lots, businesses, etc. trying to find her and every time she ran. Except now, Bebe LOVES her friends at the shelter and gets so excited to spend time with people. She enjoys hard bones, stuffed toys, and chasing squeaky balls. **In case Bebe gets any ideas in her new home, we will be sending her home with a GPS tracking collar! It's important that Bebe's adopters understand that she needs a secure living situation, without free access to the outdoors! (Ex. no doggy doors, keeping front doors closed, etc.) If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT PAISLEY Meet Paisley, affectionately called Pai-Pai or Paisley pie by our staff! This 3-year-old girl came to HAP when her owner had to move back home with family members who are allergic to dogs. Paisley arrived with very dry and irritated skin. With a switch in diet and some treatment, her skin has improved significantly! After being in our care for a few weeks, she has grown her fur back and been able to show us what a beauty she is! She has beautiful markings and an equally stunning personality! She loves all people and has previously lived with dogs, cats, and children. Her favorite past time is to curl up on your lap and fall asleep. She loves any and all attention and is very treat motivated! Paisley is crate-trained and walks well on a leash. She is very friendly with other dogs, enjoying time to run and play with other shelter pups. If you are looking for a companion that loves adventures as much as she loves snuggling with her humans, than Paisley pie is the perfect girl for you! Check out what our volunteers had to say about their Doggy Day Out with Paisley: "Paisley is such a sweet, sweet girl. She hopped right up into my SUV with no problem and she rides great. Walking her is so easy, she really doesn’t zig-zag. She walks pretty straight, and there is slack in the leash. If you tell her to leave something, she listens. Because of the rain yesterday, we walked on paved trails. In one little section, there was muddy water on both sides with a narrow dry path between. I told her to not get into the water, and she carefully walked on the dry part. She tended to match the reaction of whatever dog we were passing. If they got a bit excited, so did she. If they were calm, so was she. Paisley gives the sweetest kisses. She loved meeting people on the walk. A number of people said they would take her if they could. I really enjoyed the day with her." -Karen "Paisley and I had an amazing day together exploring Middle Run Valley! It took us a bit to find the perfect trail, but once we did, she was an absolute star. She’s fantastic on a leash, no pulling, just patience and enthusiasm as we made our way down the slopes. She loved sniffing and exploring, taking in all the new sights and smells. One of the best moments? A big log had fallen across the trail, resting on a steep hillside. Paisley climbed up it eagerly (I got a great picture!) and, instead of carefully walking back down, she took a flying leap and happily continued her walk. She really wanted to play in the stream, too, this girl loves adventure! We met a few groups of people and she was beyond excited to say hello, offering her signature flying kisses. She also has the cutest little snorts and snuffles as she walks, sounding like a happy little piglet. Paisley is not only a joy on adventures but also a total cuddlebug at home. She’s an absolutely stunning dog, and I think she deserves an updated glamour shot to show just how beautiful she truly is! If you’re looking for a dog who’s equal parts trail buddy and couch companion, Paisley is your girl!" - Em If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire!
