Story
This 2-year-old mutt brightens every room he enters! Nitro is all about his humans, offering endless loyalty, snuggles, and wet kisses. At 55 pounds, he’s still a true lap dog at heart, and will always find a way to settle in close and rest his head in your hands. Even though he spent six long months at the shelter, Nitro has an unwavering trust in people. He is house-trained and quick to pick up on rules, so he settled into his foster home with ease. He has come a long way with his crate training. When his foster humans go to work, he settles into his crate nicely with a benebone and a peanut butter kong toy. At night, he goes right to bed now that his crate is next to other resident dogs’ crates. He's making great progress on his confidence and his attachment, so his future family just needs to have patience and consistency in mind. Nitro picks up new manners and skills VERY quickly. We have been working on teaching the “wait” command to build door manners and he’s made significant strides with this, especially when it comes to duration. We are able to put him in a “sit / wait” while placing his meal on the floor and before going through any doors, and he waits several seconds for a release command. He already knows all basic commands and would be a great candidate for continued training in obedience or a sport!Originally believed to be a Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix, Nitro has traits of Black Mouth Cur as well. He’s high-energy and thrives on long daily walks and plenty of activity, but he’s equally content to relax indoors as long as he’s near his people. As long as he gets his daily exercise in, he has no issues with behavior or house manners. He could easily be left out to free roam in the house should his future family choose. He’s proven to be a social and playful dog, doing well with dogs of all sizes. Nitro’s playful side comes alive when he’s chasing toys or playing games of keep-away with his foster brother, always with a big smile on his face. While he hasn’t been around cats yet, his gentle demeanor suggests he could adjust with proper introductions. Nitro has also done really well with small children (3 and 4). In fact, he would probably love to be in a family with kids. He gave them lots of kisses and took treats gently. When they were playing and running around, he wanted to be right in the middle of the play. He even let our nephew stack toys on his back and played tug with him.Whether you’re heading out for a walk or curling up on the couch, Nitro is ready to be your loyal and loving friend! If you are interested in this dog, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Marlon is a 3 year old ACD. He does have a stumpy tail. Marlon is about 40 pounds. He is blind after a double eye removal due to severe and untreated dry eye and glaucoma. He doesn’t care and acts just like any other dog. He runs, plays, loves toys, and is even good with the cat in his foster home. He does not need any special accommodations in his new home.

Story
Sugar Bear is a very sweet dog with high energy and a lot of intelligence. She has shown to be somewhat food, aggressive/resource guarding with food and treats. She has recently begun to be very territorial with my other two dogs, and as they are smaller than her, it has gotten into the point where we unfortunately need to rehome her. She would be best with family without other animals and no small kids. She will be an amazing dog with someone who can train her, and give her lots of exercise, which our family unfortunately cannot.

Nana has been in foster care with a MARS staff member since Aug 2021. During this time Nana has been working on all her life skills, with the help of our trainer.  At her annual exam on 6/7/22 she tested positive for heartworm. She went through heartworm treatment with flying colors. She has been retested for heartworm and is now negative. She needs to remain on monthly heartworm prevention, year round, for the rest of her life. Nana came to MARS with some significant fear based reactivity, stranger danger and trust issues. With the dedication of her foster and trainer she has improved dramatically and is ready to find her FOREVER home.  Nana will need to continue using these newly mastered life skills in her new home with a calm and confident human leader. MARS will provide training with her adopter during the transition.  While Nana is able to live in a townhome she would do best without shared walls as she does get vocal when she hears the door bell, loud noises, sees dogs or sees/hears people outside. Nana would LOVE a home with a big fenced yard that she can safely run around and have the zoomies. She loves to chill outside during the warm months! Once you are one of her trusted people she is sweet and cuddly and just wants to be with you. She would prefer to be the only pet in her new home.   If you are interested in learning more about Nana please complete an application! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Story
Hi! I’m Spankie, a Cattle Dog mix who's almost a year old .  I came to Minnesota from Arkansas and am really loving meeting new friends while looking for my new home.  I’m a happy dog who loves the company of my humans. My favorite thing is cuddling on the couch in the evenings.  I’m curious and playful and love to play with other dogs. I'm energetic and a big player but will listen to other dogs once I get to know them and they tell me to cool it. I'm still working on some of my house manners like not jumping, counter surfing or finding other things to play with then my own toys. I default to being submissive, flopping on the ground to show my belly, but am becoming more comfortable the longer I'm in good care. I've loved having human foster siblings (9 & 11) for a bit while I've been in Minnesota and I have been around cats previously and don’t have any issues with them.  I understand basic commands such as sit, down, kennel and coming when called (if I’m not distracted by excitement) and am eager to learn more every day with the help of yummy treats! I’m potty trained and will let you know in the morning when I need to go out.    I'm very comfortable sleeping in my crate and am quiet throughout the night. I also stay in there while my foster family is gone and may whine a bit at first but calm down with time.  I love going for walks and have been doing well walking on a leash, although still working on not pulling when I see something exciting.  When I'm not following you around I like to entertain myself by playing with my toys and romping around in my yard. My personality is a good mix of independent and affectionate. I'd do great in a home with another dog or an active family.  I’m a fun and lovable boy who is so excited to meet my forever family! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee:  $525.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 1, 2025, 11:19 pm

Story
This is Banjo! He’s a Husky born 8/27/22. Banjo is a sweet & smart dog, who does great with other dogs, loves toys & shows no issues towards adults or children.  He craves attention & interaction. He has been around dogs of all sizes & cats, even though he did bark at cats. He is learning to walk on a leash. Since he doesn't have a lot of confidence, should be tethered carefully outside of a fenced yard, as he doesn't always come when called.  He only barks when other dogs bark. Banjo has been submissive to senior dogs. He is not highly food or treat motivated, so training to come inside or go into the kennel is a work in progress. Once in his kennel, he does very well & sleeps quietly all night. He does well in the car too! An active family would be the best for this young man, who still has much to learn & is eager to please! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
