Story

My wife and I adopted Yang Guo at eight weeks old, and he’s been a beloved part of our family for nearly four years. He’s active, playful, crate-trained, pee-pad trained, knows basic commands, and behaves well at home. He’s also smart and agile, and we’ve had wonderful times with him. However, over the past two years, he has grown more territorial, sometimes acting wary around unfamiliar house visitors. (He once became overly protective with a new guest.) He also reacts to certain large breeds like German Shepherds or Labradors on walks. Living in an apartment with limited exercise isn’t ideal for him. We welcomed our son two years ago. While Yang Guo is kind, our toddler doesn’t know how to interact in a way he understands. Though warnings like baring teeth are rare, they’re unpredictable, which concerns us. We believe a new home would be best for everyone. We’re seeking a family with a yard, no young children, and experience with dogs.

Neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and house-trained, this healthy boy has been living in an apartment since he was a puppy and is looking for a loving home where he can continue to thrive. Energetic, playful, and affectionate, Cooper is the perfect companion for an active family. He loves going on walks, exploring parks, and playing with his favorite toys, especially balls. While he’s a little shy with other dogs at first, he warms up with time and enjoys playtime once he feels comfortable. At home, Cooper is a cuddle bug who adores being close to his people and soaking up all the love and attention. Cooper is crate trained and sleeps soundly in his cozy space. He knows several commands, including "sit," "come," "lie down," "treat," "stop," "leave it," and "easy." Most commands are taught in Spanish, but he’s a quick learner who will thrive with consistent training. He walks well on a leash but still pulls a little, so he would benefit from ongoing practice. Story

Bink is an interesting little guy. We've had him since he was a puppy. He's very loyal to us, and although he will annoy us when we're eating, his only major want in life is to be around us. He is overprotective, which makes guests in the apartment difficult, although it's fine if we're outside. He doesn't seem to act this way with other people he periodically stays with. Before the baby, he was basically our baby. We had a human baby 15 months ago. He hasn't quite accepted that she is now part of the family. He has been aggressive to her at times. He's stressed, baby's stressed, we're stressed. We are working with trainers, but there's no margin for error in this situation. He's "snuggly" but in shifts. It's like he has "work" modes, and snuggle modes. Interesting dude. The rehoming fee will be donated to a rescue charity after any rehoming-related expenses (I'm not sure if there will be any. First time.)

Her Foster Says: "Minerva is a sweet, energetic pup who’s always ready for fun and adventure. Her alert nature makes her a loyal companion—she’ll happily stay by your side and observe everything you do! She’s getting the hang of playing fetch and seems to love rope toys the most. Best of all, she’s a big hugger who can never get enough cuddles. While she’s still working on leash training, her sensitive nature means she gets easily distracted on walks and can be a little nervous around city noises. However, she’s already shown how amazing she can be as a running buddy, making her a perfect companion for anyone who enjoys staying active." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
