Meet AJ and Puffer!

These little ladies are 11 week old Labrador Retriever mixes who were saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster county due to being born with entropion.

Entropion is a congenital condition that causes the eyelashes to grow into the eye, instead of away from the eye. This results in irritation, inflammation, and pain. Luckily, this condition can be surgically corrected by removing the eyelashes.

This condition is something they were born with because of the poor breeding practices found in commercial breeding facilities. Puppy mills do not breed for health; they breed solely for profit. This means they do not test the parents for genetic conditions that they could pass to their offspring. It’s devastating to see the genetic conditions found in puppy mill dogs, but luckily there is typically something we can do to help them live a normal life!

These sweethearts are understandably shy and nervous at first, but are doing a great job learning to trust new people!

As with all dogs we save from puppy mills, they will need a family who is understanding and prepared to work through a period of transition with them as they learn to live in a house and around people. They will need time to trust their new family before working on training, such as house training.

We require all our animals to be trained using positive reinforcement methods ONLY. Puppy mill dogs tend to do best in a home without young children as well (10+), though this determination is made on a case by case basis.
