Story
Hello all, meet Lilly - sometimes Lilly Anna, or sometimes just Lil. She appears to be terrier ( mini pinsher?) mix about 19 inches at the withers and about 9 months old . This Texas lady is smart and eager to please, though not a fan of cold, snow and ice. She loves to chase her ball, is fast and can also jump quite some height- and kiddy gates are useless against her leaping ability. She sleeps through the night in her kennel ( box)- and if you put a treat in there will go in willingly, though she still tries to convince her foster mom to let her sleep in her bed. She learned to ring the bell on the sliding door within 24 hours to go outside, though there still seems to be some discussion about why she’s supposed to be out there- she just hates the cold , unless she is chasing her ball. She has learned sit and “show me the belly” , and is working on down. She’s working on walking on the left, doesn’t pull too much and corrects easily, and has learned “go up ( or down) the stairs - on the left. She’s eager to please, smart as anything, forgiving of mistakes - to a degree ( if you teach her wrong it’ll take a little while to undo) and high energy and still a pupppy, thus a home without small children or lots of energy is probably best for her now- she does feed on whatever energy is around her. She’s also an excellent snuggler for her age and loves to sit in her foster mom’s lap. She looks to her foster mom for guidance, which is helpful as she tends to get a bit nervous especially with new sounds. Her foster mom thinks she’d make an excellent fun agility dog, and all around companion for the human who likes a dog who learns things quickly. ##2276166##

** If you are interested in adopting Oscar please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Meet Oscar! Oscar is a delightful 1 year old Dachshund / Labrador mix, with the best traits of both breeds packed into his compact, short legged, wiggly 25-pound frame. With his sleek coat, soulful eyes, and boundless enthusiasm, Oscar is the perfect blend of charm and playfulness. This sweet boy was found as a stray in rural Arkansas and while no one came forward to claim him, their loss is your gain—Oscar is a gem! Friendly, wiggly, and full of love, Oscar thrives on meeting new people and playing with other dogs. His affectionate nature and social personality make him a great fit for families with or without other pets. Oscar is ready to start a new chapter in a home where he can shower his humans with love and share his joyful, fun-loving spirit. Whether he's wagging his tail for belly rubs or zipping around the yard in excitement, Oscar promises to bring a smile to your face every day. While we don’t know if Oscar has had any formal training, he would benefit from a (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class. This type of training helps foster great behavior, builds confidence, and strengthens the bond between dog and owner. At Farfel’s Rescue, we believe training is key to every dog’s success, which is why we require adopters to commit to this valuable step. We’re happy to provide a list of recommended positive reinforcement trainers in your area. Oscar has been fully vetted and is up to date on his vaccines and neutered. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. If you are interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ . **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application.

Story
From Past Foster: She is a sweet, timid low rider girl who has been such a great mommy to her 8 puppies. She needs a little time to get used to new people, but she has shown zero aggression with us handling her pups. She has also been a perfect girl with potty training, and she lets herself outside with the doggy door. She enjoys some time away from her puppies and walks nicely on a loose leash. She loves all of the other dogs she has met, big and small, and would do well with a doggy friend or as an only pet. I expect she would be fine around a cat as well. She loves to eat and still needs to gain some weight after nursing all of those babies. She is very quiet and only whines if she wants to get out of the puppy pen to join her humans. She prefers to sleep on our bedroom floor, but can be crated if necessary. She is not destructive and has done well loose in the house. She is a wonderful dog who deserves a loving forever home. Pamela was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. She has tested positive for Heartworm. Treatment is covered at one the the rescue's partner vets. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2267530##

Story
Meet Fat Joe, a charming 1.5-year-old Dachshund mix weighing in at 15 pounds. This sweet boy was brought to the shelter along with his buddy Bruno, a small black poodle. Their bond is evident, and they both deserve a loving home where they can thrive together. Fat Joe may be a bit shy at first, but he has a heart full of love just waiting to be shared. With a little patience and some tasty treats, he quickly warms up to new friends. His unique dark markings on his chest add to his character, and within just five minutes, he was snuggled in my lap, showering me with affectionate kisses. If you have room in your heart and home for Fat Joe or his loyal companion Bruno, please consider adopting or fostering them. They are both looking for a safe haven where they can feel secure and loved. For more information on how to help, visit www.denkaisanctuary.org/adopt. ##2284695##
