Story
Hi! I’m Lilah. I’m 11 months old and weigh 6 pounds. I’m not too sure around new people but I’m a work in progress. I came into the rescue very fearful and suffer from separation anxiety. It takes me a while to warm up but once I do, I’m totally devoted to you. I love just sitting in your lap and told what a good girl I am. I have to say though that I’m not too sure about the smaller humans. I chase after them and nip the back of their legs so I’d do better in a home without small children. I’m told I’m a very good escape artist so I’ll need a home that is very secure. If I can’t get over it, I’ll go through it.

Story
Nieve ( NeeNee) is Dog of the Day. This boy is a sweetie! 6 years old, lived his life in a very small backyard only inside when Summer temps in AZ got really high. As one could imagine he spent his time trying to escape, causing his family to have to give him up. He has had his vaccinations and has been neutered and given a microchip. NeeNee was really scared and skiddish. We have a nice high fence in our yard and we were prepared for his attempts at escape! He is strong and fast. And comical! He was afraid of “inside”. He was an only pet, so our small pack has helped him to understand the good stuff of family life. And he has found out that Inside is wonderful! Dog beds everywhere! Nee Nee is 11.2 lbs. of wonderment and appreciation. He behaves like a 1year old, so happy and grateful, yet loves his naps and sleeps thru the night. Such a sweet boy, not a mean bone in his body. It will take patience, a private yard to sniff freely and another dog. He is loving dog company. It is what will be best for him and his new family.

Story
Hi, I’m Tater Tot! My foster mom calls be Tater. I still haven’t acknowledged this name but I’m a work in progress. I’m 2 years old and am a Chihuahua Pug mix. I weigh 12 pounds. I was abandoned in a car lot in a crate with 2 other dogs, so I’m pretty scrappy. I’m still learning doggy manners and boundaries but I’m very food motivated so I can be taught pretty much anything. I learned the doggy door in 2 days! My foster mom says I’m goofy, whatever that means. I love to play and like to be by my people at all times. It takes a bit to warm up to people, but once I get to know you, I’m completely devoted to you. I need to find a home where my people are willing to invest some time in me to help me become the best I can be.

Story
Argyle is a senior (10) neutered male. He will do best in a home who has patience to work with him on his terms, and wants a loyal companion who loves to always be by their side. It will take at least a few days to adjust to his new environment. But once he does become comfortable he is quick to warm up. When he selects “his person” he’ll become their shadow, following them all around the house at all times. He may even steal items of clothing and bring them to bed with him. Seems like he possibly came from a prior situation that was traumatic and left some unfortunate fears for this little guy. He’s scared of being picked up, so nail trims can be difficult and may require visits to the vet for sedated nail trims. He is missing some teeth so softer food or water-softened kibble work best. He does very well with cats and dogs. I’m unsure of his interaction with young children.

Story
Meet Bo (he goes by BoBo)! He’s 10+ years old and 4.5lbs. He was a Phoenix stray that we rescued from West MACC. BoBo’s been in the rescue since September of 2023 receiving much needed medical care. He’s medical issues are finally under control and he is ready for adoption. He is a special needs Chihuahua and will need regular vet visits to maintain is healthy status.BoBo is a quirky endlessly entertaining little boy that communicates mostly by growling. He also has a little muffled bark he can sometimes get out. He came to the rescue with a broken jaw and the bones are so tiny his jaw is not repairable. I believe this is why he growls to communicate but I don’t know for sure. He only has a couple of teeth so he can’t harm anyone but his growl can sound intimidating if you are first meeting him. There are a few requirements his new home must be able to meet. He will need vet appointments for bloodwork every 3-6 months and is currently on two low cost medications. The frequency of his vet appointments could become less often with time but that is what is currently recommended. He is tremendously better than when he came into the rescue and the vet said at his last appointment we just need to maintain his bloodwork at this point. He is believed to have a blood autoimmune disorder and he responds well to the medications. He will best as an only dog. He will be very aggressive with other dogs over food and his sleeping spot. He can’t harm other dogs but if he upsets them enough and they strike back he cannot defend himself. He’s also not a dog that would sit on the couch with you and other dogs. He can’t seem to relax and prefers to have his own spot that he doesn’t have to share. In his foster home he lives with other dogs and needs to always be supervised for his own protection. With all that being said there could be exceptions……he did become very closely bonded with one of our Hospice dogs which passed away a couple of months ago. The dog he bonded with was blind and deaf so maybe that took all the threat away but BoBo really cared for him and tried to take care of him in his last few weeks. And the final requirement is he cannot be open fed and he cannot be overfed. He is endlessly hungry and letting him get overweight will not help his medical condition. If you can handle all that and want to help out this special Chihuahua, BoBo will not disappoint. He is adorable and sweet (once he decides you are OK). He’s not a huge fan of kids but I think he could warm up over time. He likes most adults and doesn’t seem to favor women over men as some chi’s do. He loves car rides and exploring outside. Also, I would declare him pretty well housebroken (that is if it isn’t raining out or cold ). He currently has easy access to safe outside area and he walks to the door when he needs to go potty. And lastly, he’s super smart!
