Story
Meet Scar. Originally was found wandering the streets of Philadelphia earlier this year. Decided to take him in. He’s fun, loving, energetic, friendly and great with children. An ideal adpoter would be someone who has time, care and patience to work with scar. He’s already potty trained so we’re just looking for a suitable home.

Story
Lucy is very excited to meet anyone. She wiggles her tail and butt in excitement. She listens well to commands. Lucy enjoys going to the dog park and runs around with the other dogs. Lucy lives with a senior female dog and a 10 month old male kitten. The senior dog tolerates Lucy but does not engage with Lucy. Louie the cat and Lucy get along well together. Lucy also lives with three adult humans . Lucy has shown food aggression with the kitten and older dog. Lucy went to doggie daycare when she was a puppy Lucy has had very very limited interaction with children. Lucy would be a great fit for a home where she , receives a lot of daily exercise. Lucy does follow commands. She sits, stays, walks on leash. She really enjoys the one on one training. I personally feel she be a great dog for agility training.

Story
Squid was rescued from the Stanton SPCA in May 2022. She very lovable, loves to cuddle and get neck and belly rubs. She will be 3 on March 3. Squid has lots of energy so her new home should have plenty of room for her to run and play. Unfortunately, my apartment is no longer a good fit for her. She is totally house broken, trust she will definitely let you know when its time to go outside. She comes with crate, bed, bowls, food and her favorite pink ball. She is only crated when we are not at home

Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. MeetLula! Lula is a 9-year-old, 14 lb. Chihuahua who found herself alone and trembling at a city shelter. She barked out of fear and was quickly timestamped. We knew we had to help. Lula only required a spay and dental. Her biggest challenge has been learning to trust new people. Lula has a lot of love to give and needs only the right person to live her best life with. She needs to be the only pet in an adult-only home. Lula would love to live with a homebody that prefers a quiet life. We have to assume that she wasn’t treated with kindness in the past, so she is not a fan of strangers. Lula will bond fiercely to her chosen person though and stay by their side. (Or preferably in their lap!) Lula is fully housebroken and can also use a pee pad if necessary. She has good vision and hearing, has no problem with stairs, and loves to run, jump, and play with toys. Lula walks well on a leash but will bark and try to lunge at moving things. A quieter neighborhood or a fenced-in yard is ideal. Lula is very well behaved, so she has free roam of the house. Lula does struggle with resource guarding. She is very protective of what she feels is hers, including her person, and will bark and possibly snap if it is removed from her. Her foster family works with her on this, but her forever family will need to continue that work. Lula loves snuggling in bed and always has to have a toy with her. She doesn’t like rainy days and will cover herself with a blanket to make sure she stays cozy. Lula loves going in the car, running around, and is always good for a laugh. We know the right home is out there for her. Can it please be yours? Apply today! Our rescue is based out of individual’s homes and most of us have several rescues at once. Due to the fact that Lula needs to be the only pet, we would also be open to a fostering situation with an experienced dog owner that would enjoy working with her. In a fostering situation, Senior Dog Haven & Hospice would continue to cover her expenses. Any questions regarding her behavior or interest in fostering, please e-mail info@seniordoghaven.org

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about within a reasonable commute from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit Meet Blackberry! Blackberry is a 10-year-old, 10 lb mini Poodle mix who was surrendered by his owner. He had been sadly neglected and it was time for a new beginning. Blackberry was brought into our care and immediately received a sedated shave and was neutered. It was discovered that one of his eyes was missing, and the other one was so damaged, it had to be removed. Although Blackberry is deaf as well as blind, he doesn’t miss a trick. This amazing pup can wake from a sound sleep, sniff his way across the room, and jump on the sofa to find his foster mom eating cereal without him! Blackberry is very close to being housebroken. He will wear diapers, but only if he needs to be alone for several hours. When he is kept on a schedule, he remains accident free! Blackberry can’t do stairs, but very quickly learned where the front door is and how to step down out of the house. Blackberry doesn’t require any monthly prescription medications but will take Trazadone on occasion when he needs to be alone for several hours to avoid separation anxiety. Due to being both blind and deaf, he would be happiest to have an owner who is home most of the time. He likes to know his people are near and will cry out if he feels lost. Blackberry gets along well with other dogs but doesn’t like cats. He would do best in an adult-only home or one with dog savvy children that are aware of his special needs. Blackberry walks on a leash but tends to criss cross and would be happier with a fenced-in yard. Blackberry is a super sweet pup who enjoys greeting people. He loves to have his belly rubbed, get picked up, and enjoys lots of cuddles. He happily sleeps in bed with his foster mom and is a certified couch potato. If you need an adorable, furry friend to keep you company and make you smile, please apply today!!

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable commute from the foster home for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Tawny! Tawny is a 6-year-old, 30 lb. Terrier mix who was found tied up in the woods and abandoned. Her past had not been kind to her, but we brought her into rescue to make sure her future is amazing! Tawny has some back leg mobility issues which give her the cutest hop as she walks. Our vet has determined that no surgical intervention is needed and she only requires daily medication. The cost for this is $20 a month. Tawny can handle a few stairs but she will probably develop arthritis earlier than normal, so the less the better. Tawny has good vision and hearing. She had three masses removed from her neck (all benign), a spay and a dental. Tawny isn’t crate trained but is ok sleeping by herself. Tawny does require a diaper when inside the house that will need to be changed a few times a day. It doesn’t bother her at all, and isn’t required when she is outside. An owner who likes to be home more than out would be ideal for her. An adult-only or older child home is also best.   Tawny is an amazing dog who is learning how to “dog”. It seems her former owners didn’t give her the opportunity to learn anything, so her foster mama is showing her the ropes. Tawny has been doing great learning her leash manners, now waits for a command to eat, and is working on separation anxiety. Although she may whine or howl for a few minutes when people leave, she isn’t destructive and can be happily distracted with a Kong toy. Tawny isn’t a fan of car rides but can probably be desensitized over time. Tawny loves people, food, and exploring outside. A fenced-in yard or frequent walks would be great for getting out her energy. Due to her ongoing training needs, we do feel it would be best for Tawny to be the only animal in the home. After all she missed out on, it’s only fair that she get all the attention!  What this sweet girl needs is an experienced owner who would enjoy showing her how great life can be. Can it please be you? Apply today!
