Story
Cayenne was an owner surrender from a hoarding-type situation. He and 6 other cats were brought into FFAA together from this owner; they had never been handled by another human other than him. Cayenne is a gorgeous mostly black cat with a noticeable salt and pepper silver/white ticking throughout his coat and a super cute, round head. Cayenne has gone from a terrified recluse to a social, affectionate, and confident cat. Every month, he reveals a new facet of his personality. Originally unable to even interact with people, he slowly started to warm up and would accept slow and gentle pets as long as he stayed inside his kennel. So we compromised for awhile -- for a couple of months, every day we'd open his door and place a cat tree right underneath his door. He'd slowly descend and spend hours laying and observing -- but never getting off onto the floor. And then one day, we walked into the cat room and saw him out! He'd run back to his condo at first, but the more time out he spent, the more comfortable he became. Today, you would not even recognize him as the same cat that came in. He now reaches out with his paws and moves your hand to pet him, demanding more cuddles if you stop too soon! He goes anywhere he wants in the cat room, no longer afraid of anything. He interacts with the other cats, taking a special interest in a fatherly role towards the smallest kittens - as chaotic is they are, many adult cats do not like spending time around them, but Cayenne can often be seen with a kitten sharing his bed or getting a thorough bathing from his attentive tongue. While we have loved watching Cayenne's transformation, after six long months here, we think he's ready to move on to find his forever home. We know that as enchanting and enjoyable as he is here, his personality will be so much greater in his own space with his own family -- that sense of security will be the final piece of the puzzle as he becomes who he was always meant to be.

Story
Currently one of our longest stay cats at over 6 months, Thyme is a mystery to us -- we cannot figure out a SINGLE reason she is passed over again and again. Thyme is: -tiny-adorable multi-colored toe beans-great with humans of all ages, most other cats, and dogs-has a CUTE face with a CUTE little nose and a super awesome splashed tabby pattern on her back-self-appointed member of the kitty welcome committee -has a very unique personality Her favorite hobbies include: a) playing playing playing. When Thyme is inside her kennel watching other cats play, it is not unusual for her to hunker down and start revving her motor, literally running in place as she watches the other cats chase a toy and think about how she could be doing it better. b) scratchies and rollies. When Thyme gets to come out of her kennel, she heads to two locations first: the tiny platform of a cat tree so she can roll around on top of it, and the black chair that stays in the cat room, proudly decorated with her personal embellishments. c) water cat???!! Thyme is OBSESSED with water. She drinks water one drop at a time from her paw pad, she LOVES sitting in the sink and drinking straight from the tap, and when kennel techs or volunteers refill cat water bowls, she is right behind them as quality control, sniff-vestigating every single place water may have been poured (and trying to test it out for herself). d) toothy cuddles. Thyme has a peculiar habit of keeping her mouth open when she rubs her head or scent marks whoever is giving her some cuddles. This lets her finish each purposeful rub with a little polishing of her teeth -- never a bite, barely a nibble, sometimes just a little tooth-brushing. Thyme was an owner surrender from a hoarding-type situation. She and 6 other cats were brought into FFAA; they had never been handled by another human other than their owner. She was the first of her group to truly warm up to staff and potential adopters and has worked hard every day to come up with funny, new things to define her hilarious and loving personality.

Story
Eclipse entered FFAA right before the total solar eclipse did! His good samaritan had cared for him for many months as an outside stray, but due to her daughters allergies could not bring him inside. She was worried for his health and firmly believed that he was going to make someone a great inside kitty. And now having known him for over 18 weeks, we agree with her 100%! Eclipse is a big, solid and strong black cat. His stately presence and human-esque eyes bely his silly and playful nature -- he's a typical black cat who goofs off and is gregarious and friendly. He's recently taken to copying his friend Thyme and learned to drink from the running sink, but unlike other cats who make sure to stay out of the way of the stream of water, he will sit directly under it and get SOAKED while he drinks for minutes at a time. He's apart of the unofficial welcome committee, lurking close to the door so he can greet whoever comes in. He's ready at all times to jump into your lap, and he easily doles out love nibbles. Eclipse requests that potential adopters make sure to never look over the black cats -- just because they all look the same at first glance does not mean that they all don't have diverse and intriguing personalities that they are more than happy to share with anyone who comes looking.

Story
Xena is a shy sweetie who is beginning to find her own personality. Recently she has started to follow her caretakers around the room as they clean -- she loves to spend time with staff as well as investigate what it is we are doing. Xena is a total girl's girl -- she has little tolerance for the male cats she shares a space with but enjoys hanging out with the other females. She wants you to know that although she's not the flashiest cat in the room, or the most extraverted, she will return any investment of time and affection tenfold and make it well worth your while to choose her!

Story
If there is one thing you should know about Fennel, it is that she is a survivor! However, there is so much more to learn about this gorgeous and feisty tortie young female. Fennel is a shining of example of "tortitude." She can often be seen at the scene of the crime -- wherever there's chaos, there's bound to be Fennel. Despite this, she is an exceptionally loving cat towards humans and even now as an adult, enjoys being held, carried, and will never say no to a shoulder ride.Midway through December of 2023, we did Fennel's intake. She and her sisters presented as perfectly normal 12 week old kittens. However, while they quickly completed their quarantine, vetting, and went on to get adopted right awake, she began showing concerning symptoms. For months, we sought out different vet opinions for her and cycled through several treatment options. She'd regain her appetite, her fever would diminish, and we'd dare to hope that we were finally out of the woods with her. But it never lasted long, and she repeatedly worsened, a vicious cycle that we began dreading. We were at the end of our rope, unsure of what exactly was wrong but also unwilling to continue to let her suffer. Difficult conversations that we dread ever having to broach were on the horizon as she fell more ill than ever. And then...she just stopped getting worse. Her appetite held for over a week. She ceased showing her 3rd eyelid. Her fever broke and stayed broken. She started purring again. We made an appointment with one more vet and held out hope that this was it.And it was! At this final vet appointment, we were given what amounts to a diagnosis of exclusion of bacterial pneumonia which is very rare for cats to have. The vet explained that with the symptoms Fennel experienced, any other possible diagnosis or illness would require her having passed away on her own by now. The fact that she was improving on her own combined with the history and the way she did not respond to any medications provided bacterial pneumonia as the only option. He assured us that the worst was over and that we could rest easy. We simply needed to wait and give her lungs, full of scar tissue from the pneumonia, a chance to heal.Fennel delighted us day by day by initiating interactions, playing, and finally having an appetite to nourish her tiny body. She grew fast and rowdy, and soon we began allowing her to spend her days in the adoptable cat room so she could learn how to be cat again. Because she spent so many months as a kitten ill, she was a little behind socially. She improves every day, however, and is much friendlier and more forgiving towards her fellow cats than she used be. Fennel is now full vetted and 100% back to healthy and normal. She may always retain some scar tissue in her lungs, but as the body continually heals itself, each x-ray looks better and better, and it does not affect her breathing or mobility at all. She has now been at FFAA for over eight months, mostly due to her extended stay while she was ill.

Story
Toyota is an almost 6 month old tabby kitten. Shy and quiet at first, once reminded that she enjoys affection, she sweetens right up! Her permanently sour face belies her secretly sweet nature. Although she looks cranky in all her photos, she's just got a good ol' case of "RBF!" Come give Toyota some lovin' - she deserves it!The reason for her shyness? Toyota and the other cats she came in with spent their entire life in a bathroom, only ever interacting with their first owner and each other. They did not know how to use a litterbox, and they were filthy and infested with fleas and mites. Despite their fearfulness, the kittens remained sweet and gentle, and they have definitely all been coming out of their shell and developing their own individual personalities. The final step in their evolution is finding their own homes where they can truly get comfy and blossom!
