Story
Meet Greta: Hello, I’m Greta! I am a playful and VERY inquisitive 8 year old German Shepherd . I am just over 64 pounds (for now) as my foster mom is taking good care of me to get me back on track. I am expected to be about a healthy 75lbs. I was on the euthanasia list in Texas, because I was there “too long” 45 days to be exact , but got a second chance at life thanks to Safe Haven and my foster family! When I arrived to my foster home, I first met my furry foster sister Maya! She’s the best and I am learning a lot from her. I still don’t know my name but I am getting better at it! I know basic commands such as sit and stay. I am working with my Hooman foster siblings on “shake”, “stay” “lay down”. The best part is all the treats I get I am still learning to go down the stairs but I am making progress every day! I am completely housebroken and crate trained. Most nights I snuggle with my furry foster sister on “my” designated couch space but.. I also find comfort in my crate and will sleep soundly in there if needed. I love my foster family’s and get along and play respectfully with them. Fetch is my favorite! I also do great on a leash and love to take walks. I enjoy snuggle time with my foster mom and love playing With my foster siblings. While I have learned to respect my foster family’s resident cats, I would probably do best in a home without them. I would, however, thrive in a home with another playful pup! I have not met any young kids, so I’m not sure how I would do with them. However I met many of my foster siblings friends and do great!! If you are ready for a loyal and playful companion, I just may be your perfect match! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Any adoption inquiries should be directed to the owner at valeriacarrera10@gmail.com. Anderson Humane makes no guarantees regarding medical or behavioral status of this animal, and the current owner is solely responsible for disclosing any challenges or concerns. King is a BIG baby. He loves all the attention and loves to be around people. He is very needy for love and loves to follow you everywhere. He is very smart and knows all the basic commands and even knows how to search if given a smell. He grew around children and a big family. He is very jumpy and does not realize how big he is. He does well with kids. He does not do well with other dogs. He became reactive when he was attacked by another dog. It has been an issue with my other dog and my living situation. He needs someone who can help him overcome those obstacles. He does well home alone and is house trained. He did not know what the cage was until he became reactive with dogs and couldn't be around my other dog. He does well in the crate as well. The reactivity is not bad, he just does not like when dogs approach his way. He does like little dogs and grew up with another German Shepard and a Yorkie. He still continues to live with them. Overall is a good house dog and cuddle buddy. I just want to find a good home for him.

Story
Meet SandMan, a big hound with a personality as big as his heart and plenty to say! This guy is looking for a family who can meet his enrichment needs, as he thrives in an environment that provides both physical and mental stimulation. SandMan is crate trained, housetrained, and knows his basic cues, making him a well-rounded companion. He’s great with children and cats, and his sweet nature will surely win you over. While SandMan is a loving and playful guy, he would do best in an active home where he can get plenty of exercise and mental challenges to keep him happy. No apartments for this big guy, though – he needs space to roam and stretch his legs! He’s also dog selective, so he’ll require a meet-and-greet prior to going home with other dogs to ensure it’s a good match. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, talkative hound with lots of personality, SandMan might just be the perfect fit for you! Stop in and meet SandMan in person during our adoption hours. Story
Bentley was given to me as a birthday gift in August. He was born June 9th, came from a breeder in northern Wisconsin. I live in an apartment that is too small for Bentley. I work very long hours as a dental hygienist. I’m gone 10-12 hrs a day. My heart breaks to keep Bentley in a crate for that long. I would love for him to have a bigger home with a yard and someone who has more time for him as that is what he needs the most. He’s very sweet and loving. Fast learner. VERY good with children, mine are 6 and 10 years old.

The folks here don't think that I had much socialization because I am very nervous but they are working hard at getting me all set for a loving home. Story
Meet Wednesday (but my foster family calls me Hope)! 🐾 Breed: Dutch Shepherd Mix with precious big ears! Age: 12 Months Size: Medium Gender: Female About Me: Hi, I’m Wednesday, but my foster family calls me Hope because I have bright future ahead of me! I’m an 11-month-old, 40 lb Dutch Shepherd Mix with a heart full of love and a desire to please. I am a beautiful brindle color with short hair. I started my journey in a shelter in Texas where I was found as a stray, and at first, I was understandably a bit frightened and cautious in new environments. I’ve had to learn adjust to new people and surroundings but once I feel comfortable and secure I will settle in. I don’t like loud noises or people, this reminds me of my days as a stray. I am still young, so I’m learning more every day. I promise I’ll bring plenty of joy, affection and tail wags into your life. My favorite time of the day is when my foster family joins me on the couch so I can snuggle up with them. I just want to be near my humans! I get along great with my 4 canine foster siblings (both big and small) and am thriving in a home where I can interact and play with them. I am submissive to the others in the pack and have shown no aggression towards them. There is also a cat in the house that I love to chase when he walks by. He’s not interested in getting to know me though and so I move on quickly to other things. I’ve become an expert leash walker during my time up North. I love our walks and am always up for a new adventure! I am kennel trained and spend my day waiting for my foster family to come home from work while enjoying a chew toy or bone. At night I slept in my crate but now they have given me the option to sleep in the bed with the other dogs of the house and I sleep like a baby! I am mostly potty trained. I am young and used to living on the run so I do have occasional accidents in the house. I do always find the potty pad if I need to and if you pay attention to my cues, I let you know that I need to go out. I’m also great at riding in the car, I’ll curl right up and you won’t hear a peep out of me. I have not been in the presence of young children so I’ve not been exposed to quick movements or loud noises. My foster mom thinks that as long as they were kind and gentle to me, I would do fine. I am spayed and up to date on my vaccinations. What I’m Looking For: I’m looking for a loving family who can help me continue to grow and learn. A home with another dog(s) would be fun for me and I’ve done well fitting in with the dogs in my foster home. A fenced-in yard would be a bonus, I don’t have that right now but this would allow me to run around and get rid of some of my puppy energy. I’m more than happy to go for walks and play outside with you. I’m still a young girl, so I’ll need some patience and guidance as I adjust to my new family, but I’m eager to please and learn everything I can. My foster mom thinks I am super smart! I may have had a rough start, but I’m grateful to have been brought up from the shelter and given a new chapter on my young life. I am looking for someone who will be patient, kind and willing to give me the time to adjust to my new home. Although I am a little shy at first, I promise to be a loving, loyal companion and will quickly become a cherished member of your family. Interested in meeting me? If you think we’d be a great match, please contact Safe Haven Rescue to learn more about me and schedule a meet-and-greet. I can’t wait to meet my forever family!
