Story
Meet Cooper Cooper is a stunning and wonderful purebred 3.5 year old GSD. He came from a junk yard two years ago. He is an escape artist. He would do best with a single owner, and could use a job, sport, or some sort of work. He would excel at any assigned task. Cooper was adopted a year ago but sadly, his owner unfortunately experienced medical issues that required him to surrender Cooper back to Lincoln/Cumberland shelter. We met and assessed Cooper, who reminded me a lot of my son's retired military working dog. He will take a bit of time to warm up to a new person, but once he has, in the case of the shelter staff, he is happy and playful. We prefer an adopter to have GSD or Malinois experience. He is not a famly-type pet. Cooper needs a person who understands this type of dog and he needs. His hips look great, and we saw no concerning behaviors. Thank you for choosing rescue.

Story
This is MACON! The handsomest 2 year old male who is a very striking breed of dog and dog. Seriously, we're not sure his breed but we know he'll be a larger pup and he's wonderful. Macon was found running down the middle of the highway in Macon County, was found by some kind souls who took him in. Macon loves other dogs and kids, but he has a bit too much energy for the good Samaritans that found him. He foster sister is a 13 year old Chi that Macon is very respectful to, but the Chi is a bit cantankerous and doesn't like to share. Macon knows his manners, caught on to the basics very quickly, he knows to sit, stay and other basic commands. He absolutely LOVES toys. His fosters say he could chase a tennis ball or frisbee forever (fetch level pro) but he does very well when let inside to cuddle on the couch too. If you are interested in having this wonderful pup join your family, please let us know using this link: dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form. From there, we'll forward your application to his foster family who will be in touch. ======================================================================================== If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!

Story
Meet Junior- a sweet, playful, and funny shepherd mix who has the most beautiful brownish-red coat and a happy clownish behavior.Junior’s owner past away unexpectedly and he needed to be rehomed quickly. This boy loves having human attention; will follow you everywhere. He enjoys giving and receiving kisses and likes to nibble on your hands and feet. However, foster mom is working on him being a bit gentler with it.Junior absolutely loves to play with other dogs. His play style is both gentle and rough. When he plays with dogs he plays according to the vibe of the other dog. He can lay down and play gentle, or he can run around and tackle. He can be a couch potato too!!He is good with children and rides well in the car.He is learning basic commands and will sit automatically when he gets a treat, taking it so gently. Since he was without food for some time after his owners passing, he gets so excited and dances all around when the food bowl comes out and then runs into his kennel when its time to eat. He does not have any food aggression towards humans or animals. However, he does try to push the other dogs away from their bowls when he is finished, so best to keep him separated until everyone is done.  Junior sleeps very well at night. He lays on his bed and doesn't want to start his day too early. He has not chewed anything in the house. He is housetrained and can be trusted in the house not to chew anything that he should not.Leash training is in process. He is still very skittish with loud noises and fast unexpected movements. New people coming in the house initially scare him, but he has made big improvements in the weeks he has been at his foster home.If you're searching for a handsome, happy, affectionate, and well-behaved companion, Junior might just be the perfect match for you.Name: JuniorBreed: German Shepherd Dog/CrossbreedSex: MaleAge: 2 years  (estimated)Weight: 53.0Spayed/Neutered: NoVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Positive on recent testing. Story
adoption donation : $499 weight 70 lbs  Age: 5 years (DOB 12/9/2019)       Mellie is a purebred AKC registered Belgian Malinois and an awesome dog, she bonds  strongly to her people, is affectionate and loving, and as long as she gets the exercise she needs she is extremely chill in the house and just an easy dog who will make a great companion. Mellie does need a good amount of exercise, she walks well on a leash and will absolutely adore anyone who will throw a ball for her, she can play fetch for hours! Mellie  gets along with other dogs but can be dominant so she needs an owner who will respect her breed and understand that she needs a careful introduction to new dogs.  Mellie is currently in a foster home with a man who is actually a dog trainer and she is learning basic commands, she can sit and stay, lay down and heal. The family recently took in to German Shepherds, a male and a female and Mellie is doing fine with them. Mellie sleeps in a crate at night. Mellie was  originally bought from a breeder by a family who recently had young children and no longer had time for Mellie.  The dog trainer offered to take Mellie and help find her an home. Mellie has had her vaccinations but is not yet spayed. Wags will take care of her spay before an adoption or reimburse the cost at one of the clinics the rescue uses if she is adopted before her spay. Mellie is a great dog who ideally would be best in a home with someone who knows the breed and can give her the structure and exercise she needs.       Wags is a struggling 501(c) 3 where one woman in rural Mississippi takes care of about 150 homeless and stray dogs.  Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue. Adoption fee includes the transport from Mississippi, vaccines, microchip and spay and neuter at one of the clinics we use. For more information on adopting Mellie please email mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com    January 24, 2025, 7:01 pm

Story
🐾BRUTUS🖤 Brutus is a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd/Lab mix according to his embark testing! He’s a big cuddly goofball and loves to make his humans laugh! 🥰 This lanky boy is very smart and loves to do training/learn new things and keep his brain busy, which makes sense with his awesome breed mix! He’s very affectionate and loves to follow his person around and cuddle. He rides great in the car and is fully crate and housetrained. 💯 Brutus is a great swimmer and loves to play fetch in the water, his foster is currently training him for dock diving! Despite being very active and having lots of energy he has a great off switch, too. He can get excited very easily and has some manners that need work but his foster mama is having so much fun training him & he’s learning quickly. 🐶 If you’re interested in dog sports, Brutus would be a great match for you! Especially if you’re a beginner - he is so eager to learn and please.🥰 For his forever family, Brutus is seeking an active home with someone who is willing to keep up with his training and give him plenty of exercise. He thrives when staying active both physically and mentally. He does great with all sizes of dogs & older kids. He is a very social boy and would do great with some dog friends in his home! 🏡 Does Brutus sound like the adventure buddy you’ve been looking for? 🫶🏼 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED.
