Story
We prefer applicants within 1 hour drive of Delaware 19703 area, if farther than this please email us first to see if we can make an exception and please read entire bio before completing an application. Thank you. Skye is one gorgeous pup so we have no doubt that he will have many admirers. Our goal is to find Skye a furever family that has just as much energy as he has and is willing and able to make the commitment to ensure Skye stays happy & healthy, both physically & mentally. At 8 months old and with a family for 4 months, they were moving and unable to take him. They were able to find a rescue to take him as opposed to bringing him to an overcrowded shelter. Skye is a humongous sweetheart. He is a tiny bit caution for about 5 seconds when meeting new people and dogs, but once he gets a sniff he will acts as if he has known you forever . Skye’s previous ppl said Skye is housebroken. Foster mom hasn’t given Skye the opportunity to show her otherwise. As of now he stays in the same room where foster mom is. Skye is still a puppy with puppy behaviors so an eye needs to be on him. His favorite thing is to chew. He has already made great progress, but he’s smart. Any opportunity he thinks he’s going to get away with something, game is ON. He does know ‘leave it’ and ‘drop it’, it just depends if he is in the mood to listen. Skye has been introduced to crate training, and he disliked it so much at first. But now he knows foster mom comes back. Once in awhile he still may tinkle in it but we are thinking it’s the heat combined with water intake. Right now Skye is crated when foster mom isn’t home and still at bedtime.skye likes to be outside even in this heat. He’ll find a shaded area in the grass or dirt and lay down. He has learned to love the water too. A small doggie pool to cool the paws, or a spray of the hose is fun too. He enjoys chewing toys, meaning destroying them, but atleast he's not into eat them, and will leave the squeaker for another pup.He definitely needs a yard and 6 foot fence, but he also needs to be walked. He will start pacing to be walked. He loves to be out walking mostly so he can see everyone, he loves people. The minimum right now is in the morning and evening, an hour each. He loves to roll on the cool shaded grass too. He’s not horrible on leash, but definitely needs to ease up, especially in the morning. He would really enjoy to play with a bird, a squirrel or an outside kitty cat. He totally forgets ‘leave it’ in these situations. It’s difficult to get a pup at 8 months who already has been permitted to do things his way and try to reteach everything at once. But he is definitely a smart boy, and tad stubborn. This is foster moms first husky foster and she’s surprised at how much he is like a bill in a China shop, but she is used to little dogs, he’s really not bad, just a big puppy. As far as the shedding, Skye has been introduced to the vacuum so with the right attachment it will be a lot easier to vacuum him than to brush him. He stays a lot more still for the vacuum as opposed to being brushed. He’s really not a big boned male. He’s not done growing but maintaining 40ish pounds. If you would like to meet this handsome pup, please email us for an application, we need to approve your application before setting up a meet. We are a foster based rescue, we don’t have a shelter for you to visit. Skye was neutered, UTD on vaccines, checked for Heartworm and Lyme disease-both are negative, and he is chipped. He’s a thief, just meet him and he will steal your heart! AOLanimalrescue@gmail.com
