Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Can you imagine spending your entire 10 years of life in a rescue with no real family to call your own?  Chance came to the rescue when he was just 6 weeks old, when he was found with his six siblings.  They were dumped by a day care center when they became sick with the parvo virus.  Two of the litter were already in the final stages when we rushed the litter to the hospital.  Unfortunately, only Chance survived, starting his lonely journey.  Chance spent almost two weeks battling Parvo.  When he returned from the hospital, he had to spend an additional two weeks in quarantine.  He missed out on 4 weeks of critical socialization time.  He trusted his team at the rescue, but he was very wary of potential adopters.  This limited his chances at a real home for years.  Five years ago, an older Shar Pei named Chula came to the rescue when her owner was found dead.  Chula’s daddy was a close personal friend of our founder, who bailed Chula and her brother Booger out of the pound.  They had been placed under a bite quarantine for protecting their dead owner when the strangers came to do a wellness check.  They were brought to the rescue where they could decompress.  Booger was adopted, but Chula wasn’t understanding how she went from pampered housedog to living in a kennel by herself.  A decision was made to place her with Chance and see if they could make a connection.  The transformation of both dogs was incredible.  Chance became sociable and would allow us to leash him and take him for walks with Chula.  Chula enjoyed getting out of the kennel and playing.  They started spending the day in our exercise areas playing and running.  Chance even let new people approach him and walk him.  He loves running next to the golf cart.  Chance only has a few more years if he is lucky.  We really want to see him get the opportunity to know what it is like to have a family.  He never poops in his room, he always waits to go outside.  Ideally, we would love for him to find a home with Chula, who is also very well behaved in a home.  Unfortunately. we know it is rare for two older dogs to find a home together.  Who is the special someone that will see CHANCE’S photo, fall in love, and give him his FIRST REAL HOME?   He can be very timid around new people, but given an opportunity, Chance will gain confidence and show you his true personality.   Chance’s ideal home will be an older family without small children and no cats or small dogs.  He enjoys playing with toys and Chula in the rescue’s exercise yard.  He would love and needs to have a home with a fenced yard with perhaps a companion dog so they can play and explore the yard together.  Chance is a handsome dude with his dark, black fur and white spotted chest. He currently weighs Weighing in at 80.4 pounds.  Are you the hero that Chance has been dreaming of?  If so, fill out an application at www.adoggie4you.org to arrange a meet and greet with Chance. Chance’s adoption fee: $250  Chula’s adoption fee is $250.  If you would consider adopting both, the adoption fee would be $300.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 18, 2024, 6:46 pm

Meet Bunni! She's shy with new people, but warms up if you offer her some tasty treats. She's food driven and eager to please. Bunni also loves to give you a serene smile once she knows you're a good person (the kind who gives yummy treats). She's smart and knows to sit and wait for food, and to go in her kennel at night. She's also house trained. She enjoys being outside and playing with toys. She loves to play with other dogs, and she sleeps quietly in her kennel throughout the night. She's great with kids and other dogs. Bunni is about 1 year old and weighs 28 pounds.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.August 18, 2024, 5:27 am

Story
Handsome Charly is a 6-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever/hound mix who weighs around 70 pounds. He is a very handsome guy for sure! Charly has been through a long period of training that should continued. Adopters should be experienced dog owners. With his medium energy level Charly likes to spend time outdoors playing ball and exploring his fenced backyard. He would do in a quiet home. Long walks and daily runs are mainstream activities for this boy. After a good walk, Charly is a mellow boy with good indoor manners. He can be very happy laying around on his dog bed with his belly up. Due to his temperament and size, he would do best in a home with older children - 14 years old and above. Charly has been socialized with other dogs. We are not sure what he thinks about cats yet as he has not been cat tested. Charly is house, crate and leash trained. When it comes to his crate, he is happy to walk inside and show everyone just how well behaved he can be. House training has been completely mastered.Charly will thrive in a home with lots of attention, structure and routine. A well trained Charly will be a happy, loyal Charly and an amazing lifelong companion for his owner. Charly is more than ready to be someone’s best friend and part of a forever home. Could that be you? Charly’s adoption fee is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue, and transport fees. Story
Clay is a sweet, loving pup. He is affectionate and loves human attention. He is high energy and likes to burn it off running with other dogs, be they large or small. He is a lab/beagle mix with a short brown coat. Currently he weighs about 24 pounds at age 4 and a half months. He will be in the large size range, over 60 pounds when fully grown.Lab/beagle mixes have been nicknamed, Beagadors. They are known to be friendly, loyal, playful, intelligent, active, and make great family companions. They like to stay active even as they age. This confident guy had an injured back leg that was not treated. It has healed but it is stiff. No way does it slow him down when he runs or walks! He loves everyone, kids, dogs and cats!Clay will need an owner who has the time, energy and patience and using the right guidance with consistency and repetition, to help him with the skills he needs to master. Cheerful praise and lots of treats will go a long way in helping him master those skills. It will take time and energy but the result will be worth it. Clay has been working on house, crate and leash training, and is such a smart guy, he has mastered all three skills! He is super pleased as well as excited to demonstrate his flawless techniques to his forever family. It is important to remember that although he is housetrained, accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Before he can begin to spend time in a crate, he will need to have an established bathroom routine (always after eating, playing, sleeping, and before bedtime). He will also need plenty of exercise and lots of attention. Having established a bathroom routine, been given lots of attention and exercise, Clay will be ready to be introduced to his new crate which must be a cozy, warm, and positive place. In the beginning he will explore it and use it for short periods of time. Eventually, the time can be increased based on his comfortableness with this second home. He may be able to handle up to 4 hours over time. Daily short walks (under thirty minutes) will be a good opportunity to work on leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to him with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along his walk. Please note: He may not be a running companion until at least age one when his growth plate closes.Clay will appreciate free time in a fenced in yard or at a local dog park. Keeping his mind active with activities that provide physical and mental stimulation will prevent boredom. Could he be a future tennis ball catcher? Are you willing to commit to the time and energy needed to raise this puppy so that he can reach his full potential? If yes, read on.The adoption fee for Clay is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. Old Yeller, is that a new trend? Old stuff made NEW?? Cause I am NOT old, although I am Yeller, a really pretty YELLER COLOR!!! :) I am a Yeller Chesapeake bay retriever/ YELLER lab mix, it is important for my new family to know about the Chesapeake bay breed. We can be very stubborn, smart and independent and I really like to be in charge, so my new family needs to be strong leaders too. I am a handsome bloke, with swirls of yellow and white all through my coat. I am very smart and very sweet. I can from a high kill shelter with no hope- Now I EXUDE hope!! And LOVE!!! I WAS heartworm positive but have already finished the treatment and am NEGATIVE and just stay on prevention for the rest of my life. I am good with other dogs, but really would be best in an only dog home, cause I want all the attention :) I LOVE MY people and I tend to take "control" of my home so have to have a couple of things... 1) STRONG leadership owner, 2) I have to have an owner who will be wiling to not let me meet everyone who visits.. I want to protect my home a little too much... and 3) I have to stay in the San Antonio/TX area so my rescue friends can keep close tabs on me and how i am doing :) I have been running and playing since I am safe, but really am a couch potato. I am a bigger boy and about 65-70#. Look me up, get my number, text or call me OR just APPLY to ADOPT ME!!! I will be waiting by the phone!!! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)

Story
Meet Snow White! Snow White is a 70-ish # gorgeous white floof of a Great Pyrenees. She has a perfect white heart on her forehead which sums up her lovely personality. You'd never guess that this playful goofball was filthy, skinny, and starving when a GDR member came across her roaming near the highway. The only remnants of that time are the patches where scabs once reigned and her fur is growing in. Her favorite activities include: rolling around on the couch, playing with all the other dogs in the house (who range from 12-80 lbs), eating, and napping. Having experienced the good life indoors with air conditioning, she is loathe to spend too much time outside. But her constant smile and inviting tail thumps make her an easy, joyful companion. Attributes: Great on a leash Knows all basic commands (come, sit, down, shake) Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $400 (includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)
