Story
To learn more about Nilah, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org. Meet Nilah, a sweet and playful 1-year-old black lab mix. This good-looking girl came to us with her litter of pups, and while they’ve all found their furever homes, she’s still hoping to find hers. She’s a very friendly and affectionate girl who loves meeting all people—especially those who have tasty treats to offer her! Nilah is housebroken and has done well living with cats in the past. She also knows basic commands and is generally good on a leash. This active girl loves her daily walks and enjoys being outdoors, though she can get a little overenthusiastic when she sees other dogs, she can be redirected with some guidance and treats. Despite being more interested in the people around her than in sniffing out her surroundings, Nilah is always ready for some adventure with you by her side. While also great with kids, Nilah would do best in a home with older children due to her large size and occasional overexcitement when she encounters other dogs. If you're looking for a loving, energetic companion to join your family, Nilah just might be the perfect fit!

Yuki is excited to meet new people on walks and loves attention. While she is still learning leash manners, she is eager to please and responds well to guidance. Yuki is highly food motivated, which means she is likely to pick up new things quickly with the promise of treats. I'm Jashira! I'm a happy puppy that's looking for my new family. I'm still very much a puppy and have puppy antics, but I'm smart and need you to teach me all about becoming a perfect dog. I've already learned 'sit' and want to learn more tricks. I'm ok in my crate, but really love sleeping and snuggling with my people. I have lots of energy and play well with other dogs. I'm still trying to figure out how to meet other dogs when I'm out walking on a leash, but with time and effort, I know I can figure it out. If my next family is willing to work with me, I promise I will make it worth the effort when you see how much love I will give you in return. Come meet me today!

He checks in frequently and can keep his composure when he sees other critters. Good boy! Roller's calm demeanor makes him a perfect companion for anyone seeking a loving friend. He is 6 years old, but he is still very active! However, Roller is more mature and would do better in a home with older children or adults. As your constant companion, Roller will be wherever you are in the house, but also appreciates his personal space. He enjoys pets and scratches but does not like to be picked up. Roller is also very curious and smart! He loves sniffing his environment and knows ‘sit’ and ‘paw’. He is very treat-motivated, so you could teach him some new tricks! Roller is a wonderfully unique dog that deserves a forever home! Adopt Roller, and you'll gain a loyal friend who loves nothing more than to be by your side.

Please contact Courtney Nobles (courtneyn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.A giant, goofy pup looking for his forever family! LAUFER NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!   Name:  Laufer            Best Guess for Breed:  Lab/Shepherd Mix      Best Guess for Age:  1 year as of December 2024            SEX:  Male   Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):   75 lbs as of December 2024   View more cute photos of Laufer here:  https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBMddV     Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  Laufer is a bit too interested in his feline friends so a home without cats is best. Laufer prefers an adult-only household but may be okay with older teens!   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home Laufer is Looking For:   Hey there, future family! I’m Laufer, the tail-wagging wonder you've been looking for. I’m a fetching young pup with a nose for adventure and a heart full of love. I’ve traveled all the way from the sunny fields of South Carolina to the historic streets of Washington, D.C., and I’m ready to be your new fur-ever friend! I’m on the prowl for a loving home where I can be your happiness booster. Whether you’re a jogger, a hiker, or a Netflix binger, I’ll be right by your side.  What My Foster Says About Me:  Laufer just celebrated his first birthday in foster and his wish is to find his forever family! Laufer arrived at the shelter with his sister when they were puppies so we don't know what their life was like before that. They both came to DC and went into a foster home where they were both adopted pretty quickly. Unfortunately, Laufer's adoption didn't work out because the cats in the house were not happy to have a big, goofy puppy in the house. Since he was returned to LDAR, he has been in foster care and has grown from a clumsy puppy to a lanky, loveable young dog. Even though he is still a big goofball, he is extremely intelligent and has been doing great with basic obedience. He knows that he has to sit before we leave the house, when we go through any gates, and before we go into the home. He absolutely loves his foster sibling who is also a LDAR alum. Laufer goes to the park every day to play with his friends since I don't have a backyard of my own, but I know he would LOVE to run and play with friends in his very own yard. He also goes to daycare a few times a week when I am in the office and the staff always love when he comes because he gives the best hugs. We also signed up for agility classes at Zoom Room in Springfield and he has already mastered going through the tunnel at our dog park. If you want a dog that loves to swim, hike, walk, smell the roses, Laufer is your guy. He also has some training sponsored with Atlas Dog House so he can continue to work on all of his manners. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is fully potty trained as new environments may cause regression or take time to adjust to. TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.    If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Please contact Ann Marie Burns (AnnMarieB@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Sweet girl seeking her fresh start FIA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!       Name:  Fia    Best Guess for Breed:  Lab and shepherd mix     Best Guess for Age:  1 year as of November 2023      SEX:   Female   Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):   70 lbs a   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! She also lives with a cat but wants to play so we would only recommend her with dog-savvy cats. We are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! We do not recommend placing Fia in a home with children under 15 years old because young kids can often scare her with their level of energy or noise.   Currently Living at:   D.C. area home. Fia is Looking For:  Fia arrived into our care as a young puppy and was adopted very quickly. She has been in a loving home since then, with a family that loves her very much. Through no fault of anyone, Fia now needs a new home.  Fia is very gentle, loving and cuddly with her people.  Her loyalty is unwavering if you’re looking for a friend who will always be by your side, Fia is your dog. Her previous family reports she is good in her crate, sleeps through the night with her door open and has had a lot of training. She responds to commands from her people, like 'come,' 'sit,' 'down,' 'place,' and 'heel'. Fia thrives in the tranquility of secluded walks, where she can roam with confidence. The peaceful surroundings allow her to fully enjoy her time outside without being overwhelmed. Loud noises—such as the blaring of city buses, the constant hum of urban life, or the roar of passing cars—can be unsettling for her. Despite its location being surrounded by all of these scary sounds, she loves the dog park because of all the other dogs, and she even likes the strangers at the park. Some of her favorite activities include running, swimming, playing fetch in the water, and all things chuck-it.  She would like nothing more than to have a family who can take her on lots quieter of adventures and provide a calm home inside. In exchange, she promises to be a loving companion. What do you say? Is there a spot in your home and your heart for her?    TO ADOPT:  The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Bart has lots of fun chasing small animals, so he would do best in a home without cats. He would also do best in a home without children under 12.   Currently Living at:  DC area home This Adorable Pup is Looking For:  His forever home! Bart is a sweet, smart, loyal boy who loves hanging out with his favorite humans. It can be scary for him to meet new people in the home and on walks, so we think he would do best with an experienced adopter who can help him continue to build his confidence through training. Bart is super smart and is doing well with his training already! He also loves spending time with other dogs and would like to have playdates where he can make lots of new friends. At 4 years old, he's out of his puppy phase, but he's always up for an adventure. Bart loves walks and hikes out in nature where he can chase squirrels and soak up all the smells the outdoors have to offer. Urban settings are less ideal for Bart while he is working on his leash introductions when meeting new people. Bart would also love a fenced yard! Most of all, this sweet boy wants a home where he will be safe and loved for all of his days. What My Foster Says About Me: If you're looking for a loyal dog with lots of love to give, this is the one for you. Bart loves being with his humans, whether it's out on a hike, practicing his training, or just relaxing at home. He is so smart too--he's awesome at following commands and learning new ones, and he'd love to keep practicing these so he can exercise his brain. He's great with his house training and is an all-around wonderful dog.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for Bart is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. I'm looking for a home that will let me play with toys and get my puppy zoomies out and give me snuggles in between playtimes. When I'm a little older, I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. Name:   Picasso        Best Guess for Breed:   Lab and boxer mix    Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of January 2025       Gender:  Male Approximate Weight: 55 lbs Gets Along With: Picasso does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog because he is a bit shy. We have not seen him with cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! We would be cautious placing him in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.   Currently Living At: DC area foster home. Check out these videos of Picasso: https://youtu.be/tLY9Pd8muEE and https://youtu.be/kXkfxT3b1Qc.  What My Foster Says About Me: Picasso is such a sweetheart and loves nothing more than to hang out with his dog friends or curl up with his foster mom. He is still timid and shy but the dogs give him a much needed confidence boost. He is easily startled by sudden noises and unexpected movements near him. In the house he is a dream guest with nice manners and a gentle personality. In a fenced yard or park, he loves chasing his friends and being chased with a plush toy in his mouth. He sleeps through the night and has not had any accidents in the house, loves a car ride and walks well on leash. He doesn’t love being confined to his crate but he does love the yummy peanut butter he gets when he needs to be crated. He practices his superb couch potato skills every day. Picasso would thrive in a family sensitive to his anxieties and willing to be patient with him. Picasso is Looking For: His forever home! He's eager to have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures they can dream up - he's got all that awesome young-dog energy to burn off! Thing is, right now he hasn't seen enough of the world and can be pretty shy. He's hoping for extra patient and loving adopters who will help show him the world at his pace, and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog.He also wants his new humans to know he's completely over all that cubism stuff. Soft rounded things now, please. A cushy dog bed! Better yet, a sofa that he can sink into while curled up against his human! Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and loved for all his days and will never again have to wield a paintbrush to earn his living. It's hard getting paint out of his coat! What do you say? Is Picasso the companion you have been seeking? Special Adoption Considerations: Picasso is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! Also - Picasso is shy and needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Picasso in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
